Actually, I've pondered before about the similarities between really really simple basic life forms and computers. Especially considering brains are electric and silicon-based life is theoretically possible; one has to wonder how different the two really are.

Probably a lot of nonsense but what the hell.

Do you think it's a natural animal instinct to destroy competition? Because, if Aliens came here and they were more advanced and everything... I think some people would want to take them out simply because they would feel threatened. And if aliens came here, would the want to be peaceful or would they try and destroy us? That interests me. Maybe in their societies there is no such thing as mercy... or on the other hand there could be no such theory as destruction. Maybe they have completely different sets of emotions than us. Lifeforms could exist at many different mental capacities, which is why the thought of aliens interests me so much. If they evolved from microorganisms like we did... is it possible that there are multiple planets just like ours with very similar life forms? Like, another planet developing the exact same way this one has?

This is what I ponder when I look at the stars. There is so much we don't know about life.. but if someone doesn't sit here and think about it, we'll never know. Uh, not saying I'm going to find any answers.. that'd be silly.. but if everyone sat and thought and experimented.. and this was encouraged, we'd know a lot more about our universe.

If the universe is truly infinite, then logically, there must be infinite amounts of everything in it. Don't feel like typing out a big long explanation right now though.

I'd worry if we ever did discover alien life. How many movies depict aliens as hostile invaders, and how many as peaceful beings or minding their own business? You just know a lot of idiots will just assume that since they're not from Earth, they're evil and should be killed. Then we get to see what kind of weapons they have!

Life's quite weird... I mean (this is all speculations and drawing from memory, etc etc etc) the discovery channel traced the begining of the universe to about 12 billion years ago and the earth is supposed to be 4 billion years old. We're in naerly perfect conditions for life to start and true intelligence didn't happen for almost 4 billion years.

It's quite possible that we are the only intelligent (sentient enough to understand we're sentient) beings in the universe. Of course, its also quite possible that something developed a billion years before we did and are a billion years ahead of us.

However, I believe that civilization won't advance to a point where it will matter, cause we'll end up killing each other anyways.

I think there is other life in the galaxy, but hopefully they arent like the movies depict them..or else we are all dead, maybe not anytime soon, but maybe whenever they do visit us. I think it would be awesome to meet another life form, and to go to other planets for say vacations, or even moving to another planet. I dont think any of this will happen soon but maybe 50-60 years we may see something. if not it will be after we are all dead, although I would really like to be alive for it. Although god knows what technology we will have within the next 50 years, we might be able to live alot longer, or something like that.

I think thats bullcrap. But then again when dont I have doubts. I just dont think there could be anything else. If they did come "visit" why does it have to be top secret. I wouldnt panic if I heard that. It just seems.... not likely.

Something like that for me, the universe is so big that there's probably life outside of earth.... question is if they know about us, if they're "intilligent" and if they're more advanced than us. We might be the most advanced civilization in the universe. We might not.

No they don't.

Did you see War of the Worlds, Independence Day, Mars Attacks, and to a lesser extent Men in Black?

They are out there. Planning. They will come and and kill or kidnap everyone important, leaving only the clueless behind.

That means no one will remain.

Mankind is doomed.

Now, it´s more accurate.

Anyway, I think there´s a very little chance that we´re alone in the Universe. How big is the chance that only one Planet is populated when there might be billions we haven´t even seen yet?

What KIND of life that exists on other planets can be discussed.

As far as 'life' existing...if you call something like bacteria and stuff like that, then that's already practically been proven to exist outside the Earth.

If that's possible, then there's a good bet that there's life out there somewhere...but it makes me wonder if they're purposefully avoiding us for some reason...sort of like how net geeks try to avoid the lamers and their grotesque ways.

YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! (and dammit, I see what you did there and why you did it, cheap skate). And you're forgetting the real *REAL* discussion. What do these aliens look like? Sure, in many reports, they seemingly look like grey-ish beings with huge heads and large eyes, but who's to say they aren't just using some sort of mind-tricking device to make them appear what we view aliens as?

And it's obvious why they aren't so public with us. If they weren't, the media would go crazy. Although the government's covering everything up isn't exactly the best thing to do, either.

No.

Okay, on the serious side of this...

Given how large the solar system is, I'd say there is a chance that other life forms exist; then again, they could be clear on the other end of the galaxy and have no knowledge that we exist.

It's possible but I doubt we'll ever find out the answer. Certainly not this century.

Not necessarily. Several banned members will probably be spared. Granted, they probably only speed up the downfall of mankind. But not to worry. I'm sure we'll all be dead before aliens show up. Either that or the guys at Area 51 will be doing some sort of horrible act of....something...to them. The government will deny it all, of course. They're planning a human-alien cross breeding program! They're testing it out on themselves first! This can only spell trouble.

You are right. I made the appropriate edit to my previous post.

Oh, I also forgot to mention E.T. probably one of the smartest aliens out there. He befriended the little girl and some other people. But deep down, in his glowing chest, he is pure evil. He will eventually come back and fry our asses.

Trust me.

And to add something of intelligence, yes I do believe they may be something out there. The universe is big like Clockworks previously stated and well, for us to be the only ones, really sucks.

Edit: Alastor is right, Ailure isn't clueless. I'm sorry Ailure

I don't think it is at all impossible, but the thought doesn't interest me. I'm happy right here, in this city, in this state, in this country, on this planet, and I think that if there are other life forms, they feel the same way. Where they are.
I choose to just keep out of it.

How big is the universe? What are the chances of there not being intelligent life elsewhere? I mean, to think that we're the only ones would really make me rethink creationism ideas...
There must be other intelligent life. To say that they contacted us is, well, debatable at best. Just looking at the sheer size of the universe should speak for itself, really

There has to be extraterrestrial life out there somewhere. Although there is no proof as of now barring anecdotal evidence, that still doesn't mean it's not possible. Hell, if everyone used the "not true unless science supports it" method of thought, we wouldn't have many of the inventions we have today.
