Grey: Well, I thought about it before you even mentioned it, Kutske, and the idea of whoring myself out isn't exactly an appealing on--- wait, "Back in the day..."?

I'm several hundred years old -- and by several I mean seven. In those seven hundred years, I've been on both sides of the plate, so to speak, and I've probably still got a few favors I can pull, contacts listed in some tome somewhere.

Dracoon: Whore yourself out.

Put up an internet ad explaining your delimma (make it sound real mushy) with a paypal link for donations. I'd donate.

Also, have you considered scaling school back to part time? Or will that invalidate some scholarships and grants you've received? There's no shame in taking an extra year to finish up, or going to school in the summer.

This is what I was thinking. You could slow down a bit, lesson your load, focus on getting money that's necessary. That doesn't mean you have ti quit school... just bring it down to a level you can maintain without ripping the hair out of your head.

Whore yourself out.

Or do what a bunch of parents did. Work full time, go to school full time. It's doable, you just have to sacrifice sleep and junk man.

You might have to work in a restaurant, swollow your damn pride for a bit, it isn't that bad.

Your sister is obviously addicted to drugs... or has a bunch of payments on new things she got a while ago. Bills, etc, I'm guessing.

You know, you could try and sell some works of fiction. Short stories and stuff.

If you have atleast 60 credits, you can become a substitute teacher, which pays around 13-ish bucks.

Well, atlest in Virginia, I don't know what the rules in Rhode Island are. But it's completely flexible, you only go to jobs you want to take.

I can't give up the car, it's the only way of getting to work or home that I have, and there aren't any conveniently-placed nursing homes that I can work at to help care for old people.

My real aim here is just to have either the work I do circumvent the cost that it requires to actually attend, or to work several jobs, one of which is TRU and another of which is closer, or pays enough so that I can get there on time, or that isn't a restaurant. I've worked in restaurants for almost five years, it's the worst line of work there is, and I wouldn't exactly trade my soul for a job in the food service industry again. It's not worth the stress and the pay isn't exactly amazing.

Still, there are some things I should be saving up for... I might have to bend and break soon enough. But my older sister works at a restaurant constantly, and she never seems to have any money. Ever. I wonder where it all goes...

Yea, there are RNs and there are aides. It was a really high paying job for my first job(9$ an hour), but then again, it's not like I was living off of it. It was just enough for books and to build my own computer.

Jin - Welcome to the high flying world of care work Do they all have to be RMN's to work in care homes over there do they? Over here you can become a support worker with no experience whatsoever, all the training is on the job. Although my field is mental health instead of the elderly, the job's much the same. (yep, I have done a lot of cleaning up poo, wee, vomit and blood over the years).

For the purposes of this thread though, care work's not much good, it's very low paid - you don't do it for the money

There's this really awesome job I had in the summer in a Nursing Home around the "lower level" patients just standing around making sure they wouldn't fall over.(Recreation dept.) The only thing was that I felt really worthless having to call the nurses if they ever DID poo themselves(and it happened) and sometimes really REALLY sad for these lonely old people.

Great news guys: I don't even have money to go to the school I wanted. I have to settle for a crappier one because my parents are cheap, cheap bastards.

It's not ripping them off, considering they'd still spend twice as much doing something like buying a PC from Alienware when they could spend half as much for the same thing.

It's not a bad idea, you could do something like have them bring in an ad from a major store and build them something similar from online parts(Or some of those Fry's combo deals). Set it up for them, install a few free programs(Firefox, anti spyware, Open Office), etc. and charge them what you paid + a little extra.

You could also upgrade other people's PCs for money along with that, charge them what you paid for the part along with $20 or something.

That along with fixing other's computer problems should rake in *something*

COmpletely backing up what I said. I mean i can build an alienware pc for half the rpice with all the extrs e.g. games.

Is giving up the car an option? They're amazingly expensive beasts.

]= here's another one who's gonna be shit poor in college.

Uh, do stupid bets for money. Like "I bet you wont....".. and do it. You'd be surprised at how much money you can get doing that. If you have a lot of friends, you could probably get like 50 bucks a week. I could ..

That's a dumb way to get money though. Not so reliable. Whore your computer skills around, I'm sure you'd get paid to fix computers. Especially if you charge lower than the average rates, but not too much lower. You'd probably be helping people with stupid things to.. like you'd have to re-install AOL for them because it's broken. You'd be surprised at the number of people who'd think you were a genious for re-installing AOL for them. Or changing their myspace layout for them.

Well you said that you were short of money so I came up with a perfectly acceptable and non-illegal way to make money. If your really money that bad then you should take it. Not saing that the computer doc's a bad idea.

I think a better course of action would be to do what Tarale suggests... Maybe post a sign on the door that offers my and my roommate's "services" to other people in the dorm hallway... PC's feelin' sick, take it to the "Doctor".

Of course, I'm the only CS major in the hall, so I'm pretty sure I'd be able to make a killing off of my own "expertise"...

The thing is that I don't DO anything. Like, I don't go out and hang out with my friends, the farthest I go is to the mall to play DDR. I guess I should cut down on that? It'd probably help...

I do that and you can really rip off unsuspecting people while still giving them a cheaper deal than the shops. I make quite a lot of money at my school just by building computers for them. It's probably your best bet. You can make about £100 off each pc.
