I'd probably assume the ears were fake until seeing the lack of actual human ears. Then I'd probably just stare for a while, rubbing my eyes in disbelief. |

Bunny girls are sexier, but I'm still not into fur. |

Originally posted by Ran-chan Dude. First off, technically, catgirl isn't furry. Even I, an anti-furry who has a good deal of tolerance, knows that. Second, yes, catgirls are hawt. These things would probably look more like mutants or something equally horrific than a typical furry imaginative, though. |

It doesn't clearly say anything... It seemed completely hypothetical to me, but you know, maybe I just add things and subtract things when I go through posts that I somehow innately know is wrong. |

Well, duh. I should´ve realized that. _¬
Everyone is obsessed with catgirls. Except Alastor. |

Originally posted by Alastor the StylishOriginally posted by Grey catYou realize, according to this article, they haven't gotten permission to do it yet, right? Well... Yes, actually. I guess living in a fantasy world of my own design and wondering what the results of an extended controlled trial of a scientific experiment that's currently of controversy in the community and therefore worth discussing is non-canon, but then again, I DO read JACK. But the real question here is what about organisms that have the same number of chromosomes as humans? Number of chromosomes really means nothing, because even in animals of similar number of chromosomes, traits still are represented by different pairs. Just because the numbers match up doesn't mean the genetics themselves will. |

And again you seemed to miss the point of something. He never said they were allowed to, he is talking hypothetical =/
Insipration occured to me though. |

Although made of rabbit cell material, scientists say the embryos would be controlled by human DNA.
I don't know much about genetics, but it doesn't look like they are doing "gene splicing" or whatever. It looks more like they are trying to see what happens when you have human DNA but the shell, the cellules I guess they're called, are of Rabbit origin. And also the fact that the whole point of the experiment is to create defective cells, I don't think the definition of success some of you are using is accurate. |

It still doesn't make sense to me. The chromosome data should be corropt since 46 =/= (The # of rabbit chromosomes). I'd be suprised if it made any useable stem cells at all; rather then just making a corrupted zygote that died after conception.
If, by some insane chance, they DID make it out of the fetal stage, they would probably be just a bag of skin that lacked some of it's internal organs, causing it instant death as well. Nothing about this makes any sense :\ |

"he scientists want to use the embryos to produce stem cells that carry genetic defects. Studying those stem cells could help understand a number of currenctly incurable diseases in humans."
"They would not be allowed to grow beyond an early stage in the laboratory, and would only be used to investigate stem cell development, genetic defects and disease, they say." Well, it´s quite interesting but ti´s also quite wtf. But it could always be good to gain more experience about incurable diseases. "Imagine the scandal if a labotory killed off some animals becuse their behavior was humanlike or something. " Heh, you want a catgirl. |

Well, look at the kitten thread in general if you want to know how thoose early expriments will look like. It won't look anything like "furries", and probably rather wierd.
It's done in the name of Genetic research... which is a new and exciting area... but there's alot of question marks too. And if Human+whatever hybrids come up, there would come up questions about legal rights they have. Imagine the scandal if a labotory killed off some animals becuse their behavior was humanlike or something. |

Not necessarily: The thing about a zygote is that, well, technically it's really just six or seven cells. Six or seven cells, IMO, no matter what a NeoCon says about it, is not a classifiable living thing just yet. So we wouldn't really know.
Now, what would be really weird is if we tried to map the chromosomes inside the nuclei of the zygotes, and we ended up with a number of chromosomes equal to the mean average of a human chromosome count and a rabbit's... Wtf, eh? And now that Dracoon brings it up, I myself WOULD be interested in seeing what develops if the embryos were allowed to grow beyond an early stage. I don't think it'd be a furry or anything like that, but it'd certainly be pretty interesting. I don't think it'd be inhumane, either. I dunno why, but something about the whole process really doesn't strike me as the kind of thing that could be accused as "playing god"... |
