Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that if you continously hit F8 after the beep (after which the OS loads) the Windows Boot Loader will appear. From there you should be able to access a menu with some advanced boot options. One of the options, as far as I remember, is to disable automatic restart on bluescreen. |

Could also mean that one of your CD-roms could be bad, ive had a few problems with a CD-rom shorting out or somthing causeing my computer not to boot up. |

Well do that when you get it fixed, so next time something happens, you'll be able to read it. 
It might be worth checking the power supply. A dying PSU can do odd things. I had one that would cause the RAM to fail with certain HDDs (and others just didn't work). It became obvious when the power LED stopped coming on.  |

Could be a fried wire. I had something simalar happen to mine a while back. Open it up and check your wires, make sure nothing burnt  |

Hey, I'm really stuck now! My friend gave me her old computer and I reinstalled the CD of Windows XP that it came with. It's a 256 RAM 1.6Ghz processor 40GB Drive with XP, which beats my 128 RAM 400Mhz 10GB Windows 98 computer. So everything worked fine until it failed to start up sometimes. It would freeze up on the Dell logo for like a minute and then prompt for the system password. So I got a new hard drive for it changing the capacity from 40GB to 80GB which made it stop freezing up at startup. I formatted it to NTFS format and put in the XP cd the computer came with. The instructions said to format the drive to NTFS and put in the OS cd in which I did, but now when I start it up. It says that Windows cannot read the registry and it reboots in about half a second. I couldn't read everything the evil blue screen says cuz it just flickered and rebooted. Any suggestions? Thanks for your concern!!  |
