Well, duh. Would you be able to advertise with only one pixel?

Like HH said, a picture as big as the one he posted would cost $121.

Way too much.

You continue to not understand what's going on around you.

First off, no one said anything about one pixel.

Second, since this site has become so popular, $100 per 10x10 square is actually quite cheap for the amount of exposure the ads will get. Quite a lot of money goes into advertising; this space was not expensive, particularly since it's a one-time fee for at least five years of presence.

Dur, that's because you don't have anything to advertise. Unless you sell your offhand comments, since you've got so many of them.

I wouldnīt buy it, thatīs for sure. And the site is up again.

I must say that itīs quite interesting to look through those ads. I didnīt think so at first, though.

It's still down. And I want to see it.
That's a brilliant idea, though. Damn.

Yeah, I haven't read the guy's blog, and I don't plan to, but the person who told me about this mentioned that the guy made a post a while after activity started picking up saying basically "I just realized that I've paid off my entire college tuition from this thing."

that sentence is horribly convoluted but I'm not fixing it

More power to the guy. Way to become an instant millionaire with no hassles at all.

Of course, this is an idea that can really only work once. So woe to the people who rip this off.

No ads are covered up, because each pixel is only sold once. There are some funny-shaped ads that were bought to fill in funky spaces between other ads, though.

You realize, though, that this is a relatively cheap way of getting advertising, because it doesn't take that much to display a familiar logo.

Probably none.
It reminds me of that guy who went on ebay and sold a month of advertising on his forehead for some crazy amount, then a ton of people tried the same and got no bidders. It's not what was offered that landed him so much money, it's how weird the idea was. The company that won the bidding got a lot of exposure because of it.
A million bucks..

That's nuts. I wish I thought of that.

It worked great for the buyers, too, since when things started picking up the site got tons of attention and their ads therefore got tons of exposure.

He made more than a million, though: he sold the last thousand earlier today in an auction.

No way Iīd buy a pixel of that for $1.

That's the point.....he's selling ad space. $1 per pixle, that's why the banners aren't very large.

There are now tons of ripoffs. None of them seems to be doing nearly as well.
