I would scream 'DUH!' because people should read the README THAT COMES WITH ZSNES but I'll do this one better and close this. [closed] |

.DAT(a), like .BIN(ary), is just a general data file that could be anything. Deleting it shouldn't hurt anything, but unless you really need the space, just keep it.
Also what's the file's name? |

YY-CHR uses DAT for pallete exporting (ish). |

^ It's hard to remember when you never heard about it
Also I think MS stores thumbnails in Win Explorer in some file that ends with .dat |

No one remember the ultra-high quality DAT format of long ago? You know...media? The old DAT players? No? |

A file name (*.DAT isn't enough) and possibly anything suspicious in a hex editor would be nice to know, too... |

DAT can be almost anything. Kazaa uses them for incomplete downloads, MegaManX5 PC has it's movies (possibly music too - try Windows Media Player) disguised as such, etc.
I wouldn't delete any unless you know for sure what the file in question does. |

So if I delete them nothing will go wrong because when I click it, it says.....

They're save data files. For the most part.
And this belongs in General Emulation, I'd say. |

What are these for? One was in my hacks folder and I didn't even put it there. |
