Well it's not my fault, everyone just needs better browsers and DSL. >=(

Just kidding.

But seriously, I meant the big space.

ralk about a helpfull post, mine was extremely big too, I have reduced the size with infranview and change it to png and now it seem ok, that layout isn't that bad

Yours isn't exactly lightweight at 260.1 KB either though.

In general there needs to be less people using big images. It's just plain inconsiderate, especially to those with dialup accounts.

Ummm... I have a 26.4 kbps connection and thanks to the loving connection, it didn't load the picture in your layout.

If you want to use that image try this version: http://img356.imageshack.us/ img356/2008/link1up.gif, it has a much smaller file size.

Looks ok to me. The background image looks nice, if he just makes it load faster and fixes the code to remove that gap at the top, I think it would be just fine.

Well, I don't know where you got that extra </div> </div> and </td> from, but I've removed those. Seems to have fixed up that weird gap you'd made.

Other than that, your code is rather inefficient and untidy.

Clearly you know enough HTML and CSS to produce something better though.

On a less file-size related note, Link is stretched, too.

Which is bad.

Maybe you should just get someone else to make a layout for you (note: I am not available for making layouts)

Yeah, I have to agree; make the image small a bit -- stretches the thread out a bit, so yeah. The background loaded for me, and looks pretty nice.

Layouts wth images that don't load immediately over DSL = bad

Great googly moogly!!

I can't work out what in the sweet fuck you are trying to do with your code.

Therefore, your layout is nothing but text and a bar within an invisible box.

Lower the picture size (use a tiled background, for example), make it not scroll (quite easy), and then maybe it could be better...

Yeah.. that took a long time for me to load, and I'm not on 56k or anything. And it's big in visual size, as well. Try your best to make it smaller, use a smaller picture... then it will be good. The overall design is much much better than in the beginning.

Again, the images are too big. You really need to consider filesizes when you create a layout.

Your background image is 423.78 KB (433954 bytes)

Let's compare this with the total images in my layout, shall we?
6.93 KB (7098 bytes) and 1.94 KB (1986 bytes)
That's a total of 8.87kb. Actually a bit bigger than I'd like; but a LOT LOT smaller than yours, and a LOT more acceptable for other users to download.

Additionally, it's a scroll layout; which is not considered best practice.

ALSO, it seems to create a large blank area at the top of the page. This is weird and suggests broken code somewhere along the line.

My advice to you -- stop trying to create scroll layouts; and stop using big images. There are other ways to create a layout where you don't rely on a large image to form the entire basis of the layout.
