The only one I had was a Quick!Net toolbar and disabling didn't fix anything unfortunately. Right after I disabled it I downloaded Fasterfox 1.0.1.

EDIT: SO WEIRD!! I just closed and opened firefox and all the images work now...wtf?

Right-click it and choose Disable.

Uh, how do I block extensions, exactly?

Most likely it's some extension acting up. Adblock has some problems with FF 1.5, like instead of actually hiding the images, they just don't load. (It could be blocking these images for some reason; if you have one of those auto-update extensions for it, the latest update may have blocked some things it shouldn't.) What you can do, though it's slow, is disable the first extension in the list and restart FF. If it still happens, re-enable it and disable the next one, and keep doing this until it works correctly. If this doesn't work, there could also be an extension conflict, particularly if you have 2 extensions that do similar things. You can also do this in reverse, disabling all extensions and enabling them one by one until it starts to act up.

And if all else fails, clear the cache; if that doesn't work, reinstall FF, and if it's still acting up (without extensions), reinstall Windows.

Also I'm assuming you already did thourough spyware and virus scans.

Ok now firefox is acting REALLY weird. All of a sudden, certain images aren't shown:

Firefox

IE

The same goes for the acmlm's board main image.

Could be a Windows thing. I've had similar happen. Windows would read my floppy drive for no reason when viewing large directories in Explorer (doesn't anymore because my floppy drive no longer works), and a few times Photoshop mentioned that I had no disk in my floppy/CD drive despite that I'd never opened a file from either. Gaim also gave me a random error about not finding a hard disk yesterday.

Yea, oddly enough, it works. If I leave a floppy in, the download goes without telling me there's no disk. The green light on the floppy drive turns on(I can tell it's reading it for some reason) and the file ends up where it's supposed to, NOT in the floppy.

Try doing it with a disk in the drive, then. See what gets put there.

I'd try a firefox reinstallation...maybe something is corrupted?

hmm...it may be the case that your spyware is also removing cookies at the same time? is the spyware scan constantly active?

Yea, it's set and has been set for desktop.

hmm...have you tried to delete it? in the board archive, there is a comprehensive list of how to delete spyware properly in a spyware thread in the same forum. Right now, I can't find the board archive

as for checking for default download place, go to Tools->Options, Click on "download" in the left toolbar, under "Download" you should have an option of "ask me where to save every file" and "save all files to this folder:"

Otaku: Yea, latest Spybot, latest scanspyware, latest zonealarm, latest adaware Pro SE..

HH: I THINK it's not configured to save there, but I'm not sure...(how do I check?)

I'd be looking to see if FF is configured to save to the floppy drive for some reason.

have you tried to use a different spyware remover...like adware... and do you have the latest spyware definitions?

Yea, I am not really sure. Because the first like 5 times it stopped at the same spot but two other times it stopped at different spots. Anyway, I got rid of his spyware that was affecting cmdservice but he still gets this annoying "send error report" window about shlwapi.dll.

Also, when I try to download stuff using firefox, I ALWAYS get this window about no disk being in the A:\ drive(wtf?) and I am given three options(continue, try again, cancel) which eventually goes away if I click one button enough times. It comes up again when the item is downloaded.

And I CANNOT stay logged into acmlm's. I have to enter threads not logged in and enter my username and password while posting.

You sure it actually stopped, and wasn't just taking a while? Programs often do that 'not responding' thing in XP when they're really just waiting on something. It'd be pretty odd for a virus to just stop the scan once it's found; generally they'd stop the scanner from opening or make it just act like it didn't find anything.

My brother was using zone alarm to scan his spyware and viruses and the spyware scanning stopped at one point where the item being scanned was entitled "beast". I looked it up and found out that "beast" is an old spyware thing. I downloaded scanspyware version 3.8 and used it to remove a crapload of spyware but the same thing happened while scanning with zone alarm. Is anyone familiar with this? Please help!
