Yes, this is true. In some kind of interview or something they spoke of how they couldn't get it in before release because the online engine is quite different from the offline one. You can note how there's other differences made to reduce lag such as the removal of courses that had too many moving things, which technically work but may of caused lag in some conditions or had problems they couldn't fix, atleast not without an annoying delay past Christmas or such. Tripple banannas were removed too I think, perhaps to reduce needless track litter causing more positions to be sent per frame, and triple shells too were removed, though it would of been nice if they just made it like Doube Dash!! where they don't circle, but alot of the use of them is the sheild type style anyway. I so love ramming into people with a triple green shell.

Yes, it's true. You cannot hold an item as a shield from a red shell or something. Just pray that you have good aim and your green shell that you throw back will hit the red shell coming towards you or the red shell disappears after hitting a banana that you dropped.

NWFC works based on packet prediction; if it can't find a packet, instead of waiting for it to go through, it displays the other person doing what they were doing before, though they automatically move to the correct location when it corrects itself, which it checks quite often. This sometimes causes people to appear to jump around, but this is vastly preferable to slowdown, no?

Scatterheart: I've played against people in Japan with no lag. If that works well, then US vs. UK or Sweden vs. Spain or anything like that should be great.

Don't feel too bad about it. I got the game about a week ago now, so I'm not all that great at it either. I've beaten both the 50 and 100CC completely (I think my best rank was one star), and I've put about an hour into working on 150 I watched the snaking tutorial video yesterday, and I just found a place to download it as well, so with luck I'll be able to get the hang of it tonight.

I'd very much like to try a race against any of you, but without an internet connection at home, I can't My PSP did pick up a wireless connection here (at the Heart and Stroke office), so I suppose I could try bringing my DS in and see if it works, but even if it worked, the only time I'd be able to play it would be when I was in the bathroom

I actually owe buying the game to my friend. He got a bunch of gift certificates for Christmas, and among them was about $200 worth of EB Games certificates. He bought a DS with those, as he wanted to get the Chihuahua version of Nintendogs, and when he noticed the pack that came with Mario Kart DS as well, he decided to get it. I was considering getting the game for a while before he bought it, and after getting to play it for a couple minutes on his DS, I decided to get it as soon as possible

We haven't played a whole lot of multiplayer so far (if my memory serves me correctly, we've done about 20 races), but by far the most amazing thing happened when me and my brother were playing the game (he doesn't own it, so we were limited to 8 tracks). I forget the exact name of the track but it was beach-like, with a big water area near the middle, with deep spots which you don't want to drive into. It was the third lap, and my brother (playing as Wario), and Donkey Kong were ahead of me, and I was in third place. Right at the finish line, I saw a blue shell heading towards us on the map. Seeing as Donkey Kong and my brother were close to each other, it hit them both, allowing me to pull ahead into first and win the race.

I'm definitely happy with the game, but I've definitely got a way to go before I can actually consider myself good at it

No. SSMTing is snaking. It was used first. Now everyone calls it snaking because of F-Zero GX. Long story. The thing you speak of is banned in time trials competitions, if that helps you get the scope of it.

As for Dry Bones in Dry Bomber kicking Yoshi's ass, he doesn't even. I use Dry Bones in Egg-1.

You must be unfamiliar with SSMTing then... as most staff ghosts fall prey to this quite easily...

And you just KNOW you had a lead when you can hit a car/smowball/fall off the edge, and STILL beat the ghost.

Please explain?
A quick Google search told me that it's something to fool the game into thinking that you're still on your starting turbo boost, allowing you to drive over grass, sand and other slowing tiles without actually losing speed.

I'd love to know this trick!
I feel like I'm a good snaker, and yeah...advice from here told me to try out Dry Bones + Dry Bomber, and have realised that he kicks Yoshi's ass!

Not too long now untill I'll try and give Alastor a run for his time.
Just hope my connection will be good enough to enable matches with people halfway across the world.
Anyone from say, Sweden challenged anyone from the U.S yet? Or maybe the U.K vs. the U.S? If so -- what connections did you have, and did it lag?
*Is mega-paranoid*
512k is my connection BTW

Oh you need stars on your name.

Even if I've been messing around Time Trial wise and having no luck unlocking staff ghosts yet though. :\

Yeah, it's hella boring alright. But just remember... What's worse, being bored for awhile or not having stars on your name?

50CC is so horribly boring when you've mastered 150CC

Seriously... I think I could run faster then those dang karts

...But I have to do it if I want 3 stars next to my name!! Must...

While I hadn't beaten all staff ghosts in the older Mario kart games, I must say... it's not really hard. Getting three stars on everything is probably harder though.

Eh. Luck can swing the other way, too, y'know... For example, in a recent match, items owned me and I ended up taking third first match and last second, but then won overall due to convenient placing of everyone else in the next match due to the way items hit everyone, since I was quite lucky in those matches. Delfino Plaza, Yoshi Circuit, Choco Island 2, Luigi's Mansion.

That's just bad luck.

I got lucky once when I got nailed with the blue shell right near the finish, but so did my closest rival... so in the end I won by a few hundredths of a second. :\

I once got hit by 3 blue shells in one lap on rainbow road.

Now that sucks A.LOT.

Or you can take your time on a track, work your way up to 3rd (which would be enough for Gold) and then get hit with TWO shells in a row, fall off the track and end up in 7th with Bronze.

Why yes, I'm a little bitter.

People, people, its easy...

Just get in 8th until the first item block, PRAY that you get a bullet bill, and let it fly after the first loop.

Youll have a monster lead in no time! XD

For 150 CC and Mirror Mode on Rainbow Road, I just use the Banisher instead of the Dry Bomber because the Banisher is less likely to be sent flying by a heavy cart. I still got *** using that cart.
