Originally posted by Xkeeper It's quite funny but then I guess more so to people who have been following the story till now, with Microsoft trying to develop their own icon. Gavin's already explained it better than I could earlier in this thread. The whole "development" was really quite funny; and it's also funny that IE went with Firefox's icon in the end. It's also mildly amusing to see Microsoft adopt something from the open-source world, as they don't often do so... even if it is just an icon. |

No, this thread is about IE adopting some random program's icon.
IReplace "Firefox", "IE", and "RSS" with something else (like, say, "Windows", "Apple", and "Trash Can", and I'd still bitch. Well, wait, I wouldn't bitch about that because it means some hardcore legal action. i.e. suing. This is just stupid. |

This is the most pointless piece of news I've ever heard.
It's like saying I painted my room green because someone else's room was green too. Who cares? |

I don't think MS using an icon from Firefox in IE counts as any sort of victory. |

"standard" on the web doesn't necessarily mean who's got most of the market. Oh, and I like Konqueror's RSS icon myself, it looks like a broadcasting thinger. |

See, Firefox is slowly working their way up the ladder with industry standards. Nice to see that even MS recognized the logic of such a move.
Bet you anything Opera/Safari/etc. will jump on board if it's the standard now. |

Originally posted by Tarale Well yah, the problem is that when they previewd their 5 or so icon choices on the IE Blog (if anyone else follows it, they'll know what I'm talking about from a few months back) the response was less than enthusiastic and it was clear the icon creator had seen the firefox icon before attempting to make IE's. IMO they were just cheap knockoffs |

WOAH, MICROSOFT FOLLOWING A STANDARD THAT ISN'T THERE OWN? WOAH.
Actually, I guess they thought that most RSS users have used other browsers before. And it's not a secret that there is alot of Microsoft employers who uses Firefox. xD ...any other browsers who uses the same icon? Such as... Opera? Konquerer? |

Firefox Victory
Interesting. Considering that Microsoft had said that they were going to design their own RSS icon and there was a bunch of (rather silly, pointless and amusing) arguing going on about it, it's kinda funny that IE would adopt Firefox's RSS icon. I'm fairly happy with the decision. Most the users I support at work use IE, so it's nice for me that there will be a "standard" that will show in their browsers and my browser (Firefox) the same. |
