Wow, it looks like you are completely redesigning SMB! These are very cool graphics, how do you modify them? I kind of agree with stifu though, I never really liked the original clouds, I don't think anything you do to them will make them look good.. I think it would look better with cartoony ones.

I also noticed that mario is the only thing without a distinct black outline, so I modified him as well. How do you post a picture directly, without a link?

Anyway, awesome stuff Dahrk, if I could help you create some sprites I would love to help you! (or anyone for that matter)

Nice screens, I'm glad your going to finish this project. Are you going to have another level making contest for this hack too?

They look solid and shaded in a way that doesn't fit Mario games, in my opinion...

They remind me of DahrkDaiz's hacks :]

I've never bothered with SMB, but I've been wanting too. This just gave me all the more reason

I really like it. The clouds are awesome, by the way.

And I can't wait to see what those P-switches will do for everything. Also, what about the sound? If you've redone collision and mapping, not having to deal with the music system that's already in place would be nice.

I can't believe more people didn't have stronger reactions to the switches, those are amazing.

OMG.... The hardware hacker like Dahrkdaiz might beat M.K.S., YY, AP, My own, Googie, Mana, Beta, or anyone's hacks I played. Damn it. How could Dahrkdaiz could be that good. These spikes reminds me of Googie's hacks or Hyper Mario Bros. 5.

I seriously know a few ASMs in SMB1 but I was going to put the spikes in my hack too.

Making your format usable for everybody would be the single coolest thing ever.

This is really awesome, DD. You're amazing.

Well...

If this becomes a public release (Which would be insanely awesome,) then I guess I'll have to stop working on my hack right now, and wait for this thing to come out... It's too good to just pass up, and allows for a lot more creative levels...

Transfering the levels will be a pain, but it'll be worth it.

I'd like to thank you ahead of time for doing all this, too, DD.

Wow. I can't even begin to comprehend the amount of effort and skillz that went into this project. An editor for this newer, better SMB would pretty much kick ass. It would easily be the next LM for SMB.

I'd imagine making the editor for it would be easy, with the simple format you're using. It's just a matter of who's willing to do it. I would, but I still use VB... *flees*

This is a recreation of the first level of Mario Seasons. In my opinion it looks way prettier now

I think it'd be Map8 in this case.

Why not just post the format, though?

Maps themselves can be easily done if they're simply 1-to-1 Map16 blocks. Enemies would require a more intricate format doc.

But yeah. You teach me this level of crap, I make you an editor.

One week tops for 1.0.

Woot, you can't see it, but I FINALLY got the new enemy format and loading engine in today. I had to make it more explict so that I could easily create enemy data in the hex editor.

Note: I'm thinking about after releasing this hack, giving public permission to hack the hack using the new formats I've created. The only thing is, I really need a custom built level editor for this hack. If anyone is willing to take on the job (I can program but I don't want to take the time out to create an editor when I know someone else could do it in much less time than me), I would be greatly in your debt. I will want the created editor to be publicly released after the hack's initial release so the rest of the world can hack SMB the way I do

I'd like to know if the side pipes are just graphics, or if you are actually making them usable (like SMB3)
