Well, most of the text are actually graphical buttons, and since I already own the actual cart, I can work out a majority of the stuff without actually having to move back and forth. The only problem I'm seeing is the expansion cart, and how I could translate that, since data is read indirectly (as in, unless I were to somehow link two ROMs across the DS).

I'm actually toying with the idea of trying to copy the expansion pack into the actual game. That's me hoping it's as easy as with the GBA. Shouldn't be too much trouble, since the expansion cart only contains notes for the music and nothing more.

I think official games have to, or at least, since the devkit provides it there's no reason not to.
Also, having to move your card to the PC, copy the ROM to it, move it back to the DS and load it all the time must be a pain. I test my apps via Download Play.

hehe... well it's not like I was lazy about it, if that's what you're trying to say. I even downloaded the source code to try to see what I was doing wrong. Now I feel like I should give it another shot .

Ya know... I never could get ndstool to work. What commands did you use to expand the roms, b/c no matter what I did I would get an error.

DS games tend to be a bit easier to hack, being organised in neat files and all. Just dump them with ndstool, and see if it has files that are purely text (or whatever you want to hack). Only occassionally have I seen NDS games that have all the data lumped into one file, and never have I seen any that don't use the standard filesystem (though there aren't any technical limitations to do otherwise).

Lack of decent emulation is only a burden because you have to wait a minute or so to write the hacked Nintendo DS image to whatever device you're using.

Unless there have been leaps and bounds in the quality of DS emulation, I do believe you will have to fly blind. I wouldn't even try hacking a DS game without a decent disassembler or decompiler. IDA Pro seems to work fairly well, though I haven't done much to work on the roms I'm insterested in.

I bought me a SuperCard SD ONE, so now I can play DS ROMs without any of that flashing or whatever.

Daigasso! Band Brothers is a japanese music game. Dur. Now that I can just use the ROM, I was going to try and look into translating the game. Is there anything different to this, or is it basically the same process as with a GBA game (the game uses no polygons, if that matters) ?

Also, any emulators that might help out? Especially if it has a graphic viewer/pallete/that kind of stuff, like VisualBoy.
