And that reason is to do boosts in Diddy Kong Racing?

The boost system is the one ridiculous thing about the game I've found so far. It's a cheap, ineffective way to integrate the DS features. Maybe there could have been an option for the new/classic way...

I'm going to take back my original comment. I've been playing it longer, and it's not as good as you'd hope. For one, using the stylus to get a boost is just plain stupid. Then, tapping A makes you go slower, camera angles can become very annoying, and the controls for the plane and hovercraft are sub-par. Not to mention all the voices are British now

Okay, I noticed that the voice actors were replaced, sure. British Taj was kind-of amusing. But British Wizpig is absurdly awesome. I mean... British Wizpig! That's clearly awesome. In fact... I patent that.

I haven't played it much, but it seems pretty good. The graphics, as expected, are better than the original game. There's more of an in-game story at the beginning, which I don't care for, but I suppose some people will like it. Despite some changes, it seems like a faithful port.

Framerate is fine. I mean, if it was terrible I probably would've noticed. I don't think my fever of 102 is screwing me up that badly.

This one's true, though. You painfully attempt precision scrawling across a flat plane, adjust many vertical changes you want through a bar, and from this it gives random hills and balloons. However, it's still extremely fun.

I'm hearing tons of mixed views about this.

In the end, I haven't picked up a DS game in a long time, and I loved this game to death when it was new on the N64. So I'll probably grab it sometime soon.

Actually not so bad. Kinda hard to get used to, but in about fifteen minutes everything was as it should be.

Also, some people say that the touch screen functionality is stupid. They are clearly wrong. Obviously you shouldn't use the stylus during the boost; that's very silly and bad. Use your thumb or a finger or something. It's unique and not terrible at all. And the genie thing is fresh and new.

Also, I very much like the extra powerups.

Hm, I wonder how well the game will handle with a control pad. I'm quite used to pulling off accurate power slides with the joystick. :-/

Update: Hmm, the regular coins I mentioned before allows you to buy things. One of these things available
Spoiler:
is the silver coin challenge!
Woop!

This proves that is was already posted Colin.
I'm not going to miss having to do it that much. I hated some of the Silver Coin levels.

Agreed with DarkSlaya.

Diddy Kong Racing for the N64 is my absolute favorite game of all time, by far. If I don't get this game on release date, I'm going to go insane. I've so far had 4 dreams about this game in total, and It's pretty much the only thing I think about.

Diddy Kong Racing DS to me, is like giving me infinite pleasure on the go. I'm in love with the original, and nothing will ever change that.

In short, I'm buying this on release date, and it's staying in my DS for many months.

Spoiler (secret characters):GameFAQs claims they're Taj, T.T., Wizpig, and Drumstick. T.T. Has the best overall stats, and they all specialize at one vehicle, save Drumstick who is good all around.

Yeah, the ROM was leaked already.
Pipsy, Tiptup, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Tiny Kong, Timber, Bumper, Krunch, and four mystery characters. I haven't played it long enough to really unlock anything, I only just beat the first area.

I really hate anything involving the touch screen. The boss touch challenge is just dumb, trying to drive with the stylus is not fun at all. The bonus stage they replaced the silver coin challenge with is pretty stupid too. You're flying on a magic carpet around one lap of a course, and you use the stylus to turn, tap balloons, and drag coins into your coin bag. Maybe I'm being a snob because I loved the original so much, but I'd much rather go get the silver coins.

Oh you have it? Interesting.

What characters are there?

Edit: Nevermind. Ha ha, I have GameFAQs.

So far I'm enjoying this game. I haven't played it that long, and I'm not informed of all of the extras available (what are the coins about?), but it's nostalgic fun.
I really hate the fact that you have to use the stylus to spin the wheel/propeller if you want a starting boost. It's completely out of place, and it doesn't work very well.

Tiptup's my favorite one too.

That's a very horrible way of looking at it, you think it is going to suck because a character or two won't be there? =|

I voted the second to last option, only because I havn't had a whole lot of faith in the recent quality of Donkey Kong related games that have been put out. We'll see though, this might very well be a pleasant surprise.

Oh whoop-dee-do, a character gets removed. How does that make the game suck?

I've never played DKR in my life, but this does look fun. Doesn't it have a track editor as well?

If so... hehe, next online game for me!
