Sorry folks been busy with class lately. ;P

In any case, perhaps I will try going with a balloon(s) that attach to mario's back like in Balloon Fight. In which can hold enemies and let mario fly.

I read the title and didn't know what to think. Then I read your post and saw your screenshots. This game looks great. I'd really like to see you succeed with making it. I don't really have any ideas or suggestions now, but if I get any, I'll be sure and throw it out there for ya.

Maybe Meta Knight could be Shadow Mario/Bowser Jr. with the paint brush... though that would not make sense with him tossing you candies as Meta Knight did to help you survive, it'd fit with him being the second to last normal boss and sending out the armies is like the world bosses in NSMB... though you may be limiting yourself to just the SNES/NES games for characters... I wonder if the tilemapping for Kracko could be found to make him a Lakitu? That, or just make it a normal Lakitu with just a bigger poofy cloud or spiked barrier or something. It's hard to think of anything for the other bosses, actually, they ARE quite uniqe, and there's no counterpart for Mr. Bright if you made him the angry sun. I still wonder what the inhaling animation for Mario is gonna look like, as you have the P Baloon style sprite already(Does he waddle to move left and right?)

I dont get it.

If I went with that, then the enemies will be also Kirby ones.

Alright. Just about every enemy is now converted to SMB ones and most of the tiles are edited to be more mario-like. The ones I did not edit either are too hard or just simply fit with mario.

As for mario sucking up enemies, the p-balloon idea was good but it simply doesn't seem to work well. I will try to make Mario's head swell instead.

EDIT: well maybe i will work with the inflated p-balloon style. Just looks strange when he sucks up an enemy and moves while facing the screen (you).

These screens are really nice, I like how this is coming along. I remember three years ago (I think it was Dan, WindWaker and Kefka, and Parasyte too) found alotta data for this game. But KA has seven compression schemes if I'm not mistaken.

Well here is my inflated mario test gfx. The only problem is that when mario sucks the enemies up, he still faces forward making it look strange.

3. I can make up some kind of gizmo of some sort and try to make it fit. Like some sort of vacuum or flying/sucking machine.

No more stupid suck machines. Everyone had enough of that in Sunshine.

#2 seems like a good idea, thugh.

I cannot without changing the colors to the question mark boxes and the bricks which are the exact same colors as the ones in SMB3.

I like those immense icons that Kirby uses to show power-ups. They make the regular Mario ones look small. Maybe you could use the Mario power-ups (16x16?) with some effects around them, including the words from the Kirby screens. That would look pretty good.

I am working on the halo mod for mario 64 and have taken the halo cover and made it the correct size to be one of the paintings. I could edit the size with my software for you. As well as help with the hack trying out different characters and stuff.

No thank you. I like the SMB3 mario.

Apparently he now can. X3
He will probably suck the enemies into his mouth (think Wario when he gets stung by a bee and his face swells up). The problem is that when flying, there is a 8x8 tile where Kirby's belly is. The problem with that tile is that it is facing the same direction facing left as well as right. So I can:

1. Make Mario inflate (fill) his face full of air or an enemy.
2. His whole body inflates like the effect of the P-Balloon.
3. I can make up some kind of gizmo of some sort and try to make it fit. Like some sort of vacuum or flying/sucking machine.

Yes indeed. Mini-Kirby. It was a copy ability found in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, but the Mini-Kirby sprites originally appeared in Kirby's Adventure (but never actually used in the game).

That's what it looks like.

3. In the 6th screen (pyramids) there are little white spaces all around the green FG. Those should be made transparent
4. In the last screen, is that strange square hole in the background supposed to be there.
5. The palette of Mario's health keeps on changing from dark to light. I don't remember it doing this in the original.

1. Yes I will be fixing the status bar to have Mario as well as custom powerup screens. I am thinking of using pictures of the powerup like if the powerup resembles a fireflower, I will have a picture of a fireflower. Although I would like to, it simply will take too long to draw completely custom drawings.

2. Actually I do believe it was like that for the original spikes in KA. The problem is that I believe if I change that, it will screw it up for other areas in the game where it is used.

3. I do believe it is the best to be like that. Like #2, if it is changed, it will end up messing up other parts of the game more than help.

4. Yes it is a door.

5. The health flashes so everything is cool there.

And if it can be snes too then can you use the mario from there instead?

Seeing that Kirby's graphics are 16x16 pixels, the SMB3 mario is the only one that can be used.

Looking pretty good. Nice concept here. Couple minor bugs I'd like to point out, but you may already know them:

1. The status bar at the bottom still says "Kirby". The two pictures are also still Kirby
2. In the 5th screen (space/blue) the green spike tiles cut off into black. It looks awkward
3. In the 6th screen (pyramids) there are little white spaces all around the green FG. Those should be made transparent
4. In the last screen, is that strange square hole in the background supposed to be there.
5. The palette of Mario's health keeps on changing from dark to light. I don't remember it doing this in the original.

Bugs aside, the screenies look great. I especially like the use of Mario sprites in it..will be interesting to see how it works out.

Good luck!

I say great idea of a hack. I also say that if you are going to make the bosses, they could be the bosses from SMW... You could redo the boss looks. I never played this game so hacking the bosses to look like bowser for example could be too weird because of the fact that the behavior codes wont be the same... Does it have to be an Nes game that you would take the tiles from? And if it can be snes too then can you use the mario from there instead? Just some ideas.
