Nesticle has pissed me off so much lately. I'm not gonna' touch it unless I have too. And the Game is Predator NES.

Try un-editing the graphic and see if the text isn't compressed. Or anything in general works

If it's just the tile, it can wait when compared to other things.

I actually tried unediting the graphic and reinserting the old one but it still freezes when it begins to load it. The text works fine in other emulators, just not nesticle. I'm considering releasing the game with the title unaltered and just text and gameplay graphics edited. Does anyone think I should do that or wait.

Edit: YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

I found the title screen problem!!!!!!!!!

aparently early on in the hacks progress ( which wasn't much since I was utterly confussed then) I had edited something that I shouldn't have. I basically started a new rom and have edited the tilte screen to work now. I beleive that In starting a new rom will not only make the hack better for it's first release but also help me iron out a few other bugs.

Once again... YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

The text is also okay... no more problems now. I just need permission to bump my old thread since this one got entirely off topic.

Maybe you could take a shot of the PPU; I dunno, but mayhaps that table isn't used for the title screen or I'm just blindly trying to help

The table is used for the first screen of the game. I going to tell the story in an easy to understand part by part way. First, I edited the graphics from the title movie. This caused trouble and most emulators, except nesticle, would freeze if you got to the point in the title movie where the graphics I edited load. I ignored this figuring I could get someone to look at later since I have no Idea how to fix it. I then began to edit the first screen of the game, A text part. I was considering puting in a warning to let people know not to continue on into the title movie but rather press start after the message fades so they could get to the game. By doing this though, Nesticle refusues to open the rom now and it was the only one that would play the title movie. (even though the movie doesn't show up like it should anyway)

well there is my plight...

I have completed the table and have begun hacking text. I still have the title movie bug that was discussed in the old halo thread. I still can't fix it! and now the only emulator that could bypass that bug, nesticle, will now not open the rom because of my text editing. This Game is seriously screwed up.

Ps. would any moderator mind if I bumped my old thread?

Ok, so to create a table file you must open up Translhextion and Notepad. Scroll through the ASCII code until you see the games text. More specifically, look for the letter A. Find out what the Hex equivalent to it is, and go back into notepad.

Type out the following (Substituting as you should):

D0=A
D1=B
D2=C
....
....
....

Notice the Hex codes gradually increase. Do this for all the letters (And numbers, if you wish) and save the text file as "inserttablename.tbl" (Make sure there is no .txt extension).

Table made.

This method gets me some text but not the stuff I want to edit. I guess the text in the introduction movie is compressed. I might have to do more work than I thought I had to. What I want to edit is the stuff from the introduction movie but it won't show up anywhere.

EDIT:

Since nobody has posted here, I can't post again so I have to edit. I just wanted to give an update on my progress. I have gotten the the text of the capital letters and also the numbers. I'm currently trying to rule out all the possibilities for the lowercase letters.

Edit again...

I have all letters and #'s now. I have almost finished with puntuation marks. Halo NES should be out some time this month.

Use Translhextion to Scan relative for a word you're looking for, then after that press the generate table button and save it. Then after that click Script and then click Open Thingy Table and it'll come out like in the attachment, hope that's helpful to ya's...

I did that... I guess there is a difference between Word pad and Notepad.

Edit: Gah! Gold Finger refuses to load it! Are there any good translation hex editors out there? I'm currently trying Translhextion.

Some hex editors come with an editor, but you can also use the regular NotePad. Just make a file that goes somewhat like this:

00=whatever
01=ditto

... And so on. If you want characters that aren't directly after one, just skip and write that one:

00=whatever
01=ditto
02=yeah
59=skip
60=next
7A=more

Be sure to save the file as a .tbl. There ya go!

I'm partially ready for my first release of Halo nes but I need some help here. I did all the work to get the hex values for the letters but I don't know how to create a .tbl file. can someone help me with this?
