Was this the one where Nintendo was "punished" by being ordered to sell more games?

(That's effectively what happened; they were forced to give out $5 off a game coupons to those involved in the suit, I think)

If I were you I would just buy a Wii. It's the cheapest of them all....although the accessories are a bit expensive if you want multiple of each.

According to xe.com, 96$ is not an uncommon price point for a video game in Norway. Higher than I though, actually.

When is Sony going to figure out the exact supply/demand ratio?

They certainly do here in Europe - I wouldn't be surprised to see PS3 games retailing for 100$+ a piece over here, a lot of recent games are closing in on that price point.

Yeah, some people miss this when they do price compersations.

Though still, even at the american price with no tax... it's too much for such garbage. It might be a powerful console, but I don't trust the durability of it. And then we have all the stupid stuff Sony does...

I may say that a little different.

Prices for European Countries state, what you, the consumer, flat out pay.

Prices for NTSC-enabled Countries state, what you could pay, if there wouldn't be more taxes.

On a side note, here in Switzerland, we have a Vorgezogene Recycling Gebühr für Elektrogeräte, loosely translates as a prepaid recycling fee for electronic devices. So if it brakes or you just want to get rid of it, you can do it free at any store which sales electronic goods (in that size, that is). And no, it was included in the listed price of CHF 398.- for my Wii (about USD 317.50).

Nope. The Wii is region locked.

As for PS3, it is region locked for PS1 and PS2 games (wtf?) and Blu-Ray/video playback.

I heard they dropped the price in Japan right at launch, but I don't recall where though. That's probably old news anyway. Also, Wii News (surprise!) had a long article about Sony's profits dropping 5% from the PS3 launch.

Hm, I'm pretty sure my Wii manual says it has region coding. I seriously hope that's some sort of mistake.

It's also funny to see that stores here will put up signs if the Wii's out of stock but not if the PS3 is.

That price drop can't come soon enough.

I don't mind my sales taxes

But seriously, Sony fucked up bad on this whole thing. You'd imagine that they should have learned from watching MS botch the 360 and got a lesson on how to manage a launch from the PS2 and PSP. Yeesh. And the way that the company is handling it is just wretched. Well, I guess market domination is probably going to go to MS for quite sometime. Although the Wii is doing wiicked.lololololol shoot me.

Tax rates in Canada vary from province to province.
The entire country has a 6% GST rate (Goods and Services tax), which brings it up to $741 CDN for a Ridge Racer.

And on top of that, most provinces have a Provincial Sales tax (PST). Alberta doesn't, and that's where I live, so *shrug*
BC's PST was 7% when I lived there, so that would be about $790, though it may have gone down since I moved.

I neither know nor care what it is in other provinces.

Oh you poor soul. Add the humongous sales tax rate in Canada, and you'll end up with...

It's official. You suck.

UK/Europe is even worse. If they have ST as well as VAT, they'd end up paying along the vicinities of $899 US DOLLARS!!...

For shame, Sony. For shame.

Might as well just import a PS3 for less money. Shouldn't be too hard; at least I know that Fry's and Fred Meyer have plenty of PS3s for everyone that wants one (almost zero).

But then Sony will break your legs. Or at least, you'll need to wait for a modchip or import all your games too.

North America is a noticeably larger market that probably requires a bit more doting upon than Europe.
