Never heard of Hibernate being enabled but Stand By not. I assume you've checked your power options, ensured your Shift key isn't stuck etc.

To clarify Ailure's post: Stand By = low-power mode. Hibernate = dump memory to disk, shut off, restore where you left off next time it's turned on. (Nice for laptops.)

Nope. It's Grayed out.

Make sure your display drivers are updated. Sometimes old display drivers can prevent Standby from working.

Edit: Out of curiosity, can you choose Standby from the Shut Down menu in the Task Manager?

Why? I think it's a serious question.

The difference between Standby and hibernate is that standby is a sort of low-power mode where the computer comes to a stand still, but work can be resumed by just moving around mouse/using keyboard.

Hibernate is when the computer saves it's current progress and shut itself down, it takes longer to resume from this than Standby mode, but saves more power, and the difference from plain shutting the computer down is that you can continue your progress.

For Whatever reason, my computer can't go into standby. The button usually labeled "Standby" (on the WinXP "Shut Down" menu) Says "Hibernate" instead. NOt really that important, but puzzling. Anyone know anything?
