That's a massive problem with the videogame industry. Some "journalists" that follow it, particularly from Gamespot, are peabrains and editorializers to an extreme degree. There is little consumer-based oversight beyond reviewing the games and occasionally dumping on something. For the most part the production aspects, and all of the really important pre-playing stuff, is ignored. There aren't any industry based publications for general public that I know of...at least not here in North America. Sure, some stuff gets put into EGM or whoever else, but for the most part the real business decisions have to be found in the back of a newspaper or a really constrained search. And when they do get reported in the open...well, idiots fuck it up. You really have no one to trust until a higher edge gaming mag comes out for intelligent patrons.

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder what sources I can truly trust these days.

Ah, so oversight on the part of IGN? Makes sense. When it comes to fact checking it looks like they did it shitty, like Gamespot does for everything.

Earlier reports of a massive wave of cancellations over at Konami's next generation game farm were, it seems, erroneous. Next generation Gradius and new generation New Action Adventure Game 2 live!

For those wondering what in the world of mistaken triologies is going on, IGN reported on Wednesday that the following Konami titles had been cancelled:

# Gradius Series (PS3)
# Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball (PS3)
# New Action Game (PS3)
# New Role Playing Game (PS3)
# New Action Adventure Game 2 (Wii)
# Role Playing Game (Wii)

This report was based on a release list in the latest issue of Japan's largest games magazine, Famitsu.

Today, Famitsu issued a correction via its Famitsu.com website noting that the games have not been cancelled, but instead have a TBA release date, just as they always have.

For the record, because we're sure you're wondering, there is a "New Action Adventure Game 1" in development for the Wii. We expect it to precede the release of New Action Adventure Game 2, although it too has a TBA date.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/755/755023p1.html

So, it just means they're set for a TBA release date.

And then it turns out Metal Gear Solid Trilogy was just a rumor.

I hate people.

DDR Mario 2?

I thought they still had quite a few Wii games on the schedule, they just axed two concepts.

Shit, don't let Setz see this cancellation list! There will be tons of "FUCK N***** SHIT" and other such profane language. Gradius is a favorite of Setz's.

Anyways, that's kind of lame. I was looking forward to more games for the Wii.
I bet it means they are making a Wii-bound DDR that is going to need alot of man-power and will have all kinds of cool tecnobabble shit in it.

Oh no! I was really looking forward to New Action Adventure Game 2!

I dunno if you can read anything into that... it seems like two titles and four concepts were trashed, so maybe they just decided on new concepts for other titles or shifted development resources.

And now it gets even more interesting. Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3 will be remade for the 360. Sounds like a one package deal thing, as its being called "Metal Gear Solid: Trilogy".

OSAKA – Konami Digital Entertainment – Japan, a division of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., today announced a new, exclusive for the Xbox 360 gameconsole, development team will be formed inside Konami Corporation. On January 11, 2007, Konami Corporation merged and consolidated its group companies. On why people may want to focus on 360 developments - India.

It has the 360. Has a massive amount of people that can buy it. English is a de facto second language. :o not too tough at all there.

I wouldn't doupt it. Not to mention those various rumors out there about MGS4 possibly being developed for the 360 also, and this ... could mean something.

'Rumors' of MGS4 for the 360 vs. the fact that Kojima hates Microsoft with a firey passion.. hmm..

I could see MGS4 for the Wii, but the 360? I'll believe it when I see it.

What Yamori said. And remember, MGS2 came out on X-Box.

Ah, thank you both for saying that before I had to.

And its been stated by multiple people (John Carmack as of lately) that developing for the PS3, is drastically harder than developing for the 360 or Wii.

Since when did the designers have a say above everyone else? Kojima wanted MGS2 (I think) to wrap up the series. The sales did the talking. Keiji Inafune wanted Mega Man X to end at the fifth sequel. Same thing there.

Sony has been facing a lot of problems lately and it seems that their glory days are starting to fade. Xbox360 already has a large installed userbase that'd probably be very interested in an MGS title. It's a very logical decision from an economical perspective.

Well, if you want to focus on big budget titles, you might as well not have budget-chewing titles sitting out there. Plus, the PS3 is the ultimate budget chewer. I forgot where I read about it, but a cost breakdown put developing for that console at an unbelievably high number when compared to the X360 and especially the Wii
PS3 is hard to devolop for.

When you getfamous programmers dissing your console's architecture, then well... remember N64 was apparently hard to develop for which was one reason it didn't go too well.

Nice names for the Wii titles, I guess they were just placeholder titles and might been just been a small project that probably hadn't got past prototype stage.

What makes me more curious is what they could possibly be focusing their efforts on now, it's interesting that they'd scrap so many at once.
