Welcome to the BT forum... Please read.

Welcome to the Brain Teasers forum. Congrats on making the decision to visit the place where all of the smart, puzzling, and downright rigorous brain bending happens on the board.

Chances are, if youre reading this, youre 75% better off than the rest of the people who didnt read this. As in, your thread won't get closed, and you'll have more people participating.

Before I begin, go find your grammar. If you can't find it, then leave. I'm not going to tolerate horrible grammar

There are a bunch of things to keep in mind here to make your game successful.

-The first and most important, is to HAVE FUN. Theyre only games. On a board. Drama need not apply, end of story, cut print and that's a wrap. If you take these games seriously serious... then take a break... get some priorities straightened out... go party for a night. Yeah.

-Secondly, if you do decide to run a game, there are things that have worked, and things that have not worked. I'll list some of both for you to get a general idea...

~~~~~BAD things~~~~~
-One puzzle topics
-Or rediculously easy puzzles (Such as "What is 2+2?")
-Over the top, complex, paradoxial rules.
-Things requiring nothing but pure luck.
-Boring stuff...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

-----Good Stuff-----
-Well thought out, structured games.
-Interesting, fast paced, and competetive games
-Games consisting of short, similarly themed puzzles (IE: Lingo, "Bending")
-Long games, maybe with teams that get knocked off as you go along
-------------------------

-Mainly what I am trying to say, is LOOK AT WHAT PEOPLE HAVE DONE. The topics that have stayed open are the topics which can be enjoyed by all. If you can't think of anything, go ahead and PM someone your ideas, or hop on IM and talk with a buddy. Another great way to start a successful game is to look at what has been done before... bring back an old classic with a personal twist. Create something based off of a game you've played before (IE, Clue, Mafia, a card game). Always remember to have fun with it...

-And now the list of the "Don't post these topics. They get closed" topic types.

~-~-~-~-~-BAAAAAAAAD Things-~-~-~-~-~
-CYOA: AKA Choose your own adventures
-One/Three/Five word stories
-Hurt and Heal
-One puzzle topics
-Posting multiple topics (I KILL YOU IF YOU DO )
-Blatant plagerism of another game
-Spam
-Topics that OBVIOUSLY go into another forum
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

-Once again, USE COMMON SENSE PLEASE. If you think that it fits under something up in that list, don't post it. Things don't often get closed here... I'd like to keep it that way.

-When running your game... please try and be punctual with your updates. Several times, games have crashed and burned into hibernation because the person could not update said game. (Everyone is guilty of being late with updates, even me). If you need to, tell everyone youre taking a break... even better, get someone else you trust enough to take over for you. The smoother things are run here... the better.

-If youre running a game with tables... points... scores... make sure you keep everything NEAT AND ORGANIZED... and for all things that are holy DONT BREAK THE TABLES. That is probably the worst thing you could possibly do here... not to mention having to go and fix them is a headache as well.

Keep stuff organized, don't break tables, and keep accurate scores... if a person tells you you made an error... go ahead and double check to save some pointless arguing.

-Now... moving onto the second part of this forum... Participation...!

-Participate responsibly. This forum would not BE here without participation, but that doesnt mean that you can go in and act like you're something special (Unless the game says you are... but...). Follow rules set up by game masters...theyre there to give everyone a fair chance. You can be kicked out of a game if you make a nuscence of yourself... I can make sure of that.

-Secondly, keep up with your games. Just as a runner updates everything, you have to be there to give them data to update with. If all you do is check in once a day, that should be enough. Most people here are good enough to keep their game up and running. Respond to PMs... chime in when it is your turn... yeah.

-Be a good participant. Your game master will thank you.

-Overall... the most important thing (Next to having fun) is to USE COMMON SENSE. Dont be blatantly stupid. Dont spam. Dont say "LEIK, LET ME JOIN PLZ" 50 million times to EVERY GAME OUT THERE. Most games have waiting lists. Common sense will get you far here... using your head will get you the rest of the way

-PLEASE refrain from bumping old threads. (Those that are a fair way down the page, or haven't had a response in over three months). Go ahead and PM the person in charge to find out the status of a game, but DON'T go and post "WHENZ TEH NEXT UPDATE!"

-Keep all this in mind, so I dont have to drill it in there for you... hehehe.

So go out and have fun.
