------

Backstage in the traditional Coliseum-styled battle arena just miles away from the Acmlm Board Building, several Melvins were running around frantically, some carrying weapons, some carrying tools, some carrying clipboards in a frantic attempt to wrap up last-minute battle preparations. A door in the spacious backstage area opened, and out stepped the buffed-out, German-accented, bearded F-S Melvin. He yawned and flexed, immediately ripping several tears into his Beefy-T.

F-S: Ach, how are ze preparations faring?

The entire roomful of Melvins seemed to gather in a semicircle around F-S. The first to come forward were At-T, Pa-T(T), and Pa-T(Y). Pa-T(T) flipped through a page on his clipboard, and began to read.

Pa-T(T): Okay. Here's what we've got on your opponent. Relatively speaking, he was born in 1407, which makes him 587 years old. He's very experienced.

F-S: And I take eet he doesn't look ze part.

Pa-T(T): You guessed it.

At-T: His entire family is either dead or presumed to be dead, as well as his instructor, who he killed himself. He travels from area to area looking for more powerful challengers, weapons, and equipment.

Pa-T(Y) took his pipe out of his mouth, and blew a few bubbles.

Pa-T(Y): Watch out, he's got a lot of techniques and various ways to combine them. He's really unpredictable.

Then P-A, P-T(N), L-T, and F-T stepped forward.

P-A: Alright, we've worked all night to pull together some good kit for you, and I think we've come up with some nifty things that'll help you out when you're out there.

F-T produced a long, black, boxy rocket launcher that looked like a long rectangular box with a handle and four holes in the ends on it.

F-T: Generic rocket launcher. Solid fuel rockets, heat-seeking, infared imaging, or dumbfire settings. You've got four, and we can't send you out with more, so make them count.

P-T(N) produced a very large wrench, which he handed to F-S, who tested it's weight and blinked.

F-S: It's light. Is it hollow?

P-T(N): No, it's lunar titanium. The same stuff they're making the new Gundams out of. The surfaces have all been polished and beveled until the thing was silky smooth to reduce drag, and the reduced weight of the lunar titanium makes it lighter, while being twice as strong and just as hard as the same time.

Finally, L-T handed F-S a satchel.

L-T: Fragmentation grenades. They're not like ordinary grenades, because instead of regular explosive, we've got plastic explosive in there. It's just as explosive, and won't go off no matter how much you mess with it. Just pull the pin, push the big red button and fling it, and it'll explode either after five seconds or a hard impact.

F-S slung the rocket launcher over his back by it's strap, the satchel over his shoulder, and took his wrench in hand.

F-S: Ach... I will do my best.

The group of Melvins waved and wished their counterpart good luck as he walked out onto the field through the swinging double doors, his bowling ball head glinting in the sunlight of a rather nice day.

Yeah. You're not /nearly/ cool enough for the Story Forum. Nyah.

Actually, we'd probably let you in if you really wanted to post there. ;;

Yeah, I know. There wasn't too much I could really do about it, though - I needed a transparency with /no/ images quality loss whatsoever. So I went with an uncompressed PNG. In retrospect, though, a high-quality JPG with a white background might have sufficed.

OH SHI-

Well, I'll run off and fix that real quick, then. I had completely forgotten all about IE's horrible PNG support!

GET FIREFOX, BITCHES.

EDIT: Okay, I've got JPG's in the layout now, and they look pretty damn good to me. I'm off to edit all my posts!

Yeah, but Robots.txt is hardly a binding contract or anything. It's purely voluntary to honor a robots.txt...

What I'm saying is that if the company didn't want their pages archived, they should have made use of Robots.txt to prevent webcrawlers from archiving it.

Lucca's screaming wasn't caused by Gutsman - rather, a tall man in black with a big hat and wielding a shotgun who had shown up unexpectedly on her doorstep. Lucca had opened the door, took one look up at him, and shrieked loudly, followed by a hail of various insults an accusations. At his first attempt to speak, the figure found himself hurled a distance of several feet by Lucca's powerful whallop, and tumbled head-over-heels onto his front.

Figure: What a detestable young lady.

Picking himself up and brushing himself off, the figure reached to his side and retrieved his gun, then adjusted his hat with one gloved hand. His glasses slinted in the bright sunlight, and he swiveled on his heels, turning to face the ocean as he rested the barrel of his gun on his shoulder.

Figure: The mayor has conscripted me into joining you and Miss Haruko.

Figure: My presence here is not a matter of money. Rather, it is over the lack of interest involved with most armed escort assignments. And as I already said... I do not have a name associated with my being.

He sighed.

Figure: But... if we are to be traveling companions for such an extended period of time, then a name would be most appropriate.

The man removed his hat, and made a half-bow to Marina, before rising back up and planting the headgear firmly on his head.

Figure: Call me Mel.

Adjusting his hat, Mel swiveled around and walked off, shotgun over one shoulder, and his coat flowing in the breeze.

Mel: I'm staying at the local inn. I'm ready to leave whenever you three are, so don't hesitate to come knocking any hour.

Oh yeah, it's definitely your computer speed. I used to have a 333 Pentium III and had problems just playing AVI's sometimes. MKV's were just a mess. I'm surprised you're able to play them well at all.

Elmo, I know exactly how you feel. I've been real inactive myself lately, mostly due to Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst as of late, and more of 4Chan overall. That will change.

As soon as I make up a new layout. Damn it.

I always tell people I'll never smoke because my first experience with a car lighter was... less than pleasant. I was 5. "Oh, hey, it's glowing red... MAYBE I'LL PUT MY THUMB ON IT."
