Nijote: "Axel..."

At the mention of his foe's name...

At the sight of his friends lying on the ground, covered in blood and in intense degrees of pain...

At the thought of being nothing but a corpse as those same friends were killed for no reason, no reason at all...

Janus just stuck frozen. On his knees, at the very whim of Nijote's dagger. He suddenly knew.

He realized it. He realized it all inside of him, what lay within, what lay without, the sheer sense of oneness with the world that existed when all was in danger, when the stakes were so high, when all was necessary to defend. He knelt. He felt the will to survive grow within him, and the will to protect grow even stronger. He remembered what he saw in Star's eyes, and he remembered especially that one memory that was new.

That memory had become reality. He knew it. He had created it. He cared about it.

He wanted it... Her... To be safe.

Janus: "I.... It.... It feels really..."

A tear rolled down his cheek as he spoke, his voice cracking as he realized the sheer futility of trying to save anyone now. He really, truly was weak and it really did feel like there wasn't anything he could do about it. Nijote had pounded it into his head in the span of several seconds.

"Really..."

Kalar: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

It seemed as though Kalar had also heard Nijote's manifesto... He rushed her, fighting madly. He rushed her like he had never rushed anyone before, with all of his rage and anger pushed forward and focused completely on her. Dark swirls of shadow surrounded him, and bright red filled his eyes as everything he had learned so far came out in one long blow of psychotic, destructive fury. He slashed, and sliced, and cut, and anything else he could think of doing, over and over again at Nijote with all of his hatred.

He wouldn't stop, he resolved to never stop, not until he was dead. His shadows grew outward and extended like tendrils toward Nijote as they consumed him, her, and Janus. Janus was thrown out of the pit of shadows and landed roughly on the ground as Kalar flew toward Nijote, pulling off a sloppy-looking mockery of her Evisceration attack combined with her Bloody Edge attack that resulted in shockwaves made of his own blood flying toward her, blackened by the darkness that surrounded them. This was really only for effect. I'm pretty sure being smattered with boiling blood would be kinda freaky, which is why Kalar went into a grating spin, a whirlwind of blades that sucked the shadows around them with it. He went in circles around Nijote, slashing here and there with near-pinpoint accuracy.

His speed wasn't nearly enough to match hers, far from it, but any observer could tell he was improving (in fact, if Nijote really was that fast, none of this would probably do any good at this point). Around his feet as he ran were little flecks of blue light, tiny sparks that grew up here and there...

Kalar: "I can't let you hurt anyone! ANYONE! Nobody will die! Everyone will live, I'll show you, I'll make you see!"

He dashed away from her and ran back, his eyes burning red the entire time as he brought his scythe down on her even faster than before, swinging like SHE was Star, like SHE was the one responsible for all the pain that had already been caused...

Janus: "....Lonely..."

Janus retreated off into his own little world as he watched Kalar fight his psychotic, but futile, fight. Kalar was trying, honestly trying really hard to get better, faster, stronger. He really was fighting like this was it, his last battle against a foe he could never hope to defeat. He was hatred, he was rage, but throughout all that darkness, he was determined. Every blow made his muscles that much faster, that much more enduring.

Janus could, too... Janus sat there and watched Kalar. Janus could. Janus knew he could. Janus knew that alone even now he could match Nijote blow for blow, if only he tried. If only he tried, god damn it all!

Why didn't he try before? Did it really take all of this to show him just how much he was needed?

Maybe before he just didn't care enough... And now, he definitely did.

Janus: "D.... did you just..."

The fire welled up inside him again. There was Kalar, standing against an invincible foe, extending his limits to points that he had never known, all in a struggle he was doomed to fail at. And so suddenly, he was cut down. That kind of heroism was what the world needed more of... To destroy it was doing the world a great injustice.

"He's dead..."

The sight was sore for his eyes, but he could not admit otherwise. His expression slowly changed, from sadness to scowl, as he found within himself that one single force that had driven him to madness so long ago.

Courage.

Suddenly, it was Janus who disappeared. He ditched the stun baton in favor of his beloved hammer, and struck fast, struck hard, struck true with a wide but impossibly fast horizontal blow to Nijote's front. He didn't stop. The difference between Janus and Kalar was that Janus was fast enough to scare Nijote, and had been the entire time. Apathy, however, can be a great equalizer.

Every blow he swung hit the ground with earth-quaking force as Janus rushed Nijote, lashing out as Kalar had before...

But hammerblows alone weren't going to finish this one. He pointed his palm at her, blowing a blast of void energy at her that he quickly followed up with a sliding tackle that went fluidly into a rising upper strike. Hit or miss, he knew that this entire endeavor would be for naught if he hadn't shown her just what he had learned, which was thus: Never save your best efforts for last.

He reached into Satchel, and pulled out a small, silver jewel that looked like it would have felt more comfortable being green...

"Chaos Control!!!"

Janus gripped the emerald in his left hand as the hammer in his right dropped to the ground, and felt the chaotic energy overflow his body. Untrackable, unarmed, uncaring, that energy focused itself into one single, solitary dash that sent Janus literally from one point in space to another in milliseconds. He used the momentum from his dash to power one final crushing punch, emerald in hand, directly at Nijote, be she on the ground, in the air, or somewhere thereabouts. he swung, and an echo of pure Chaos energy (the kind that made trees bend in 90 degree angles for no reason) followed.

The instant his punch followed through, the chaos energy left his body and went back into the emerald. Janus dropped to the ground, panting. That was the best he could do. Now all that there was for him to do was get better.

Math classes have always come pretty easily to me, along with english, I just never seem to do my work because it's so tedious. Only when I'm actually interested in what I'm writing about (see: Story Forum) do I really put forth any effort.

My current class roster...

Calculus 141: Easy as hell: I took the class two years ago.
Writing 106 (for technical and field manuals): Also easy, I just better get myself a decent topic that I'm interested in.
URI 101 (changes and transformations): A waste of my valuable time.
CSC110 (intro to computer programming in C++) : Pretty fun, I get along well and I understand the way things work really easily. Algorithms are fun to look at.
CSC201 (intro to computer programming in VB) : Long and boring, but at least I'm learning some syntax stuff.

I remember gym always being kinda hard for me until about senior year or so, when I started running and playing handball. That was something I was actually good at...

Languages are easy to learn, but I prefer just speaking english and translating french if I have to.

Music owned. I made most of my friends in my band classes, and music is always going to be a part of my life, for sure.

My sciences were simple, too... Chemistry took an explanation or two, but it all came out in the end. Physics, now there was something fun and easy for me. I love kinematics. And Bio... well, it was my freshman year. I just took the course work a few years too early, is all. I got a B- in the course overall, at least.

Now that I'm in college, I think I'm going to start actually liking school again.

Janus: "Yeah, I actually think I might. Fist of the Grey Dawn!!!"

At that point, Janus reared back, and punched forward with his glowing, excessively charged fist, releasing a huge, story-battle-sized wave of pure Light energy from it that blew toward Yiusi and spread to about the width of a football field as it shot forward. The blast shot out into space, and for a second the entire cityscape was illuminated in its brilliant light, which radiated like a midnight sun, casting a moonlight shadow upon the rooftops.

"You know, we immortals have to stick together... You ok?"

Old man: "First, you should probably get out of those ridiculous costumes..."

At the entrance to Cleavon's trailer, which the aspiring director had led them to in his resigned sulking, stood a very strange old man, who leaned against the side of the structure, somehow appearing very dignified in the middle of this backlot. His hair was white, very well-combed. He wore a suit jacket with an ascot and long, black slacks. On his face was a very dignified looking white moustache. His left eye held a single glass monocle...

"I'm quite sick of seeing all of these film actors nowadays raging about, trying to look so "cool" and "badass", as it were."

His accent was thick and british, almost like John Cleese's, but not so cliche. Could this be Algus...?

"Come, come now. Get yourselves into some decent clothing, I'll not have my films ruined by such cheese and wine."

Schpiel: "Ah, ah! My benefactor..."

-------------------------------------------------

The man said nothing, and guided Star into his back room. When he finally spoke, it was quite straight-laced, with almost no indication of French in him at all...

Man: "Alright... I can drop ze accent now. She told me you would come. You, your lady friend, and her friend are all expected at her next concert. It is this Monday, the fifteenth of August. Four days. Do with them what you will, enjoy the sights. If this fails, then you will never be able to see our fair city again. She is at the club Rayonnement Mystique. To prove you truly understand the scale of loss that is at stake, you must sit through her concert, and make sure all goes well, alongside. Axel has caught wind of this... I fear Janus may not have notified us in time. When you get to the club, tell the bouncer at the front "The dawn is coming", and he will let you through if you can answer his question."

The man's face went from mysterious to nervous, as he realized just what he had been unable to do...

"Sadly... Even I do not know what the question is. Failing that, you can still gain entrance to the club, through the back entrance. You will have to deal with the Lady Raon's personal bodyguards, however... They are not to be taken lightly, swords and sorcery alone cannot stop them. It will take something more. What, I do not know. I am sorry, Monsieur Star. That is all I can tell you. I would advise you to get out, as well. Soon, Axel will send his monstrous creations after me. He knows all, sees all, even now he sees us acting upon his stage. Go."

The man ushered Star out... Without telling him where the club was, of course.

---------------------------------------

Schwa's progress was greatly appreciated... As he went to find Kaz, Janus and Grey journeyed to Egypt next, attempting to break into the pyramids that hid secrets of the past within. What they would find, however, was not what they, or Schwa, for that matter, expected...

The portal opened, and out jumped the pair. Giza's great pyramids stood before them, evenly placed as pristine and grand as the days they were built.

Janus: "Egypt. The Great Pyramids at Giza... Those mummified kings took a lot more with them than they thought..."

Grey: "Another set of murals?"

Janus: "That, and some interesting objects I want to take a look at before the days pass. Once I'm finished up here, we're going to focus on you, for a change, and meet up with Schwa. I've already called him to our aid, as far as I know he is gathering allies..."

Grey: "Focus on me? I don't like the sound of that..."

Janus: "You wouldn't."

Janus completely ignores the riot below. Other, more important things start going through his mind as Yiusi walks toward him... Like where to go to dinner, and whether or not he should pay...

Janus: "Of course, my lady. I know this excellent restaurant at the end of the univer---"

SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!! A flare gun whizzes past the rooftop, unleashing a deafening screech and scattering sparks everywhere. It looks like the riot's begun...

"Whoa! What the hell?"

He looks down. SWAT teams are forcing back an angry mob of people that have amassed in front of the building Janus and Yiusi were fighting atop. They seem to be trying to rush the building and find out what's on top. Looks like Janus went a bit too far. In fact, even the government must be wondering what's going on, which means Janus and Yiusi are about to have some company. That riot below was just barely being quelled, too...

"Ah, crap! It's the feds! What do we do?"

Grey: "Pip pip, cheerio, sir Emptyeye. I do say that such a grapple is not only meticulously applied, but also not particularly painful in its execution! Come, let us take restation upon ourselves and bring the funkadelic grooving to bear for a round. Thus, with no action taken, no ally shall come to harm."

Janus: "Ha HA! Finally, some REAL excitement! Come on! Satchel can't morph, but I've got a better idea!"

He grabs her about the waist, jumps on Satchel, and the two of them take off into the night!

"Alright, this is gonna be a bit risky, since I know your last experience with Stardust Speedway left you falling in the night, but here goes!"

Satchel lands, still in bag form, on the speedway and blasts off down it, with Janus and Yiusi standing along for the ride. The FBI choppers are in hot pursuit of them, and it looks like they're about to catch up, until...

"Now, I'm gonna trust you to have some courage here... And whatever you do, don't worry about me, at all. I'll see you again, I promise."

At the utterance of the word "courage", a soft blue light begins to glow around Janus' body. He smiles, and squeezes Yiusi's hand gently before doing a brief crouch. He jumps, and Satchel zooms forward with Yiusi in tow as Janus takes off into the night. He's flying, not even riding on Satchel now, but flying of his own accord...

Behind Yiusi, as she whizzes further forward and down the speedway, the sounds of police radios can be heard...

Radio: "What! What's that?"

"Enemy approaching from the left! The left! Bravo 1, he's attached himself to the side of my chopper! He ---KZZT!"

"KZZT!---- Eject, EJECT!"

"Roger! Bravo 2 safe! Bravo 3, Bravo leader here, we've got a 664, unidentified flying object assaulting our choppers!"

The battle was on, and Yiusi was off to Sandsalot...

OOC: Schwa, you're directing this one alongside me... We're both masters of this story, not just you or just me. You have to decide what happens

Janus blazed through the night skies, chasing furiously after Yiusi...

Janus (thinking): 'Holy shit, I'm flying! I can't believe it, I never knew I could do this, but I'm really flying! I... Nijote must've really brought some good stuff out of me. I'll have to thank her someday. But now... I have to find her... I have to make sure she's safe. But that speedway, it's so fast! She'll get to Sandsalot far before I do. Especially...'

Whoosh! An Apache chopper missile zoomed past him! They were sending MISSILES! And the National Guard! Janus turned sharply upward, and whirled around in midair, diving down and punching the chopper's blade center with a fist that looked almost like... Well, almost like it was coated in blue ether. But he didn't think about that now, he acted almost from instinct: He had to make sure Yiusi was safe.

Satchel: "Hey yeah.... Fuck you, Ballsie. Janus gave me strict orders to get Yiusi the hell away from here, and I fully intend on doing so. Leave me out of your petty squabbles and just sit along for the ride."

At that, Satchel actually sped up. 500 miles per hour suddenly seemed a whole lot slower...

Meanwhile, Janus blazed through chopper after chopper: Parachutes littered the air as the FBI's elite helicopter squad tried in vain to catch Yiusi. If the Yiusi Ball was acting as a guardian angel, then Janus was like a guardian Seraphim. All the while, Janus' blue aura grew brighter and brighter, going from a soft glow to a beacon in the night... He was a fool for such destruction, but was no novice to danger. In fact, he relished it; it empowered him to know that he was charging into the face of death and protecting someone, and his drive was heightened ever further by the fact that it was, of course, an innocent young woman.

Kick. Ass.
