Threepeat? I think just Tennessee. Men and women winning the same season? Nope. Closest was Duke in 1999, but they both lost (men did the jay-oh-bee to UConn, incidentally...).

Custom spam filter? I tried that, going by domains, then keywords. But they kept getting around it (although not nearly as bad as it was before... 120 down to 12). Then I got SpamBayes (Bayesian filter for Outlook) and they're lucky if one spam email gets through. A couple of false positives so far, but nothing I can't catch.

Jesper: I'm talking about batteries and such. That and I'd want to have my entire collection (almost 450 CD's, plus about ten CD's of MP3's, AND about thirty albums I need to rip) with me, and I dunno that an iPod would be big enough. But whatever, I'm cheap.

I'm only fluent in English, but I took some Japanese in college, copied my gf's "Learn French In Your Car" CD's, and she's trying to teach me some Spanish. So, uhm, one.

(snurk) Shoulda mentioned that you need to watch it while you still can... Fox is gonna whack it. Actually, checking the guide, it looks like they already replaced it with reruns of The Swan. Nice way to respond to your critics, Fox... cancel the shows they actually LIKE. There's already a petition to release it on DVD, and the producers are shopping it to other networks, though, so it's not all lost. |

I was going to suggest Angelina Jolie... she'd certainly provide the curves, and she might be able to get cut enough for the role. Then I remembered Tomb Raider. She should just stick to stuff like Gia. Yeah, this movie idn't getting made... at least not well, because they are NOT going to be able to find someone that fits the role of Samus well enough. |

Wow... more proof that they need to crack the whip when it comes to teenagers (well, minors) getting their licenses. (Sorry, kids, but it's true. And I didn't get mine until I was nineteen, so THBBBBBT. ) A friend of mine was actually walking back from a fair a couple of years ago when he got hit by some kid (I think she was 16) driving an SUV. He didn't make it.

$10.50/hour at the LIBRARY?! Geez, we were paid pretty well at my job when I was at school, and that was just $8/hour. Y'all are SPOILED.

Cut and pasted from my LiveJournal, because I'm too lazy to re-type this. This starts off with a little visual interpretation of the events of March 31, 2004, between 7:45 AM and noon. In case you didn't know, Deanna (my gf) and I recently started as subs. Teachers, not underwater craft. Got up some time around 6:00, dressed and everything mostly without incident. It was raining pretty bad, though. Anyway, I head down to the assignment: half a day, first grade. Shouldn't be TOO bad, right? (So say those of you who haven't done this before.) The teacher was there when I got there (got confused with the directions), which was right when I was supposed to be there. She headed off to her workshop, and I sat down to read her notes. She did leave quite detailed notes (snaps for that), but I was a tad unclear on some things. Anyway, fifteen minutes later, the kids start filing in. They tell me what they're having for lunch, and that's settled. Time for morning announcements. And that, kids, is when things start resembling the above pic. It starts with a couple of them talking during the Pledge of Allegiance. Then during the anthem. Teacher comes in and harangues them for that. Go over to a calendar to start that bit... and everyone's talking and getting up. At some point, I ask if they'd do this if their regular teacher was there. What do they say? "...nooooo..." Gee, THANKS. Anyway, this takes so long that we're almost an hour late (!) for them to start doing their work. And everyone starts running around, banging on desks, coming up to me to ask questions, and generally being loud. I think every teacher on the floor (four of them) came in to tell them to be quiet. This was basically the entire day for me, but it doesn't express just how much of a train wreck it was. Imagine four hours of this. Oh, and they keep asking you if it's lunch time yet, and when it gets to be that time... you find out they set the clocks ahead an hour by accident. Eventually, they all started trying to get playtime (which, by the way, was built into the schedule) and start playing loudly instead. Some kids start chasing each other, then the pushing starts... No fighting, but I send the main perp to the office. He WON'T GO. One of the other kids offers to escort him, and FINALLY he goes... yeesh. They just wouldn't respect that for that morning, I was their teacher. FINALLY, a third-grade teacher comes in, reprimands them all, beating them over the head with the idea that they wouldn't do this if their teacher was there, and gets them back onto their lesson. Which, by the way, WASN'T what I was left to do. ;;; I'm really thinking about if I should sub again. Deanna says do it two more times, so it doesn't look like I had one bad experience and quit. But do I really want to subject myself to this? I mean, I could do so many more assigments that aren't going to end up like this (have a bunch of rotating classes, higher grades, etc.) but I HATED it. Don't do this unless you really want to. Spare yourself the frustration. Also, kids, PLEASE be considerate when you have a sub. They're people too. |

The reason he's doing it is he pulled out of the player's union. He figures he can make enough money on his own, without having to share. And he's right, kids. Oh, and also, the Tigers are 4-0. Welcome to Crazyville. |

FallenWarrior: No, it's Bench. They keep saying it all the time. (EDIT: Just double-checked on Retrosheet.) Carlton Fisk : 376 Johnny Bench : 389 Toxic: Nope. But he was the second. And as far as I know, Kieshnick hasn't done anything yet, but at least as far as Yahoo's fantasy baseball system goes, he's listed as a relief pitcher. (edited by drjayphd on 04-10-04 04:23 PM) |

Well, Jayson Stark talked about him in his Useless Info Dept. column, if it helps. He's also been tagged by another ESPN.com columnist as a beneficiary of nepotism.
