Who knew?

(Yes, I refer to the fact that Brandon Flowers is indeed a Mormon.)

They will be ginormous. They've already got two big singles (Somebody Told Me, Mr. Brightside) and I'm counting at LEAST three more (Smile Like You Mean It, Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, All These Things I've Done) on the album. Probably one of the most marketable of the new new wave bands.

Name: Jason (drjayphd)
Age: 24
Sex: Of the male persuasion
Area of expertise: Copy editing (grammar, punctuation... check the application for proof), crisis management (well, minor)
Skills: Impartiality, even temper,
Highest Obtained power level: Full Mod (bumped down to local due to schedule and staff bloat), Moderator (another board... think Full Mod, only with the power to edit layouts, ban, flood control, what have you... essentially, an admin in absentia).
Forum(s) to Moderate and why: Entertainment, Sports (I've already modded them both and I could handle two forums easy)
Recommendations: Randy53215, Kasumi-Astra, Colleen, Anya, Elric, YD, Tarale, others TBD. (If you want to recommend me, do it via PM.)
Reasons you think you will be a good local mod, what you plan to accomplish as a local mod: First off, keep in mind I've just bashed out four 30-inch stories... and I'm STILL coming back to write this.

I've been on staff for quite some time... think over a year now. While I was a local mod, I'd like to think I ran a fairly tight ship. But not THAT tight. The key to modding is only getting involved when need be. And as far as these two forums go, people are generally well-behaved. Haven't had to close threads for anything more severe than, in most cases, bumping. Besides, they aren't exactly Craziness/General Chat. Generally, if you're coming into Entertainment or Sports, you have a very good reason why. (ahem) For those two forums, it's just a matter of keeping things tidy and the conversation active. That is, beyond the level of "thanks for the replies keep em comming". ;P I also try to be accessible and fair... if I take modding action, I'll discuss it with you afterwards if you don't agree.

Besides, NOBODY wants to mod these forums. Well, no one that hasn't already climbed up the depth chart. And Max. But besides them, NOBODY.

I'll say. For some reason, every web site I go to at work has these damn LowerMyBills.com banner ads that keep trying to open pop-up windows. They've installed SP2, so that's not an issue. But I've NEVER seen them at home. Managed to miraculously convert my parents to Firefox, too. 'Cept Mom, but she barely uses the comp, so SBC's browser it is. All she needs to do is check her email anyway.

Probably because the people that find the holes can fix them. Microsoft has to do anything for IE, while the rest of us are just told "don't do that".

Someone WILL get fucked the fuck up for tacking this onto a military appropriations bill. Fuck this shit, it's something you pull when you know it can't stand on its own merits.

As for the bill itself, it actually undoes some state regulations which are more stringent. Nice move, dickheads. Wasn't this the party of states rights?

EDIT: Oh yes, it's also another fucking unfunded mandate. ENOUGH OF THIS.

Wanna shut Reds reliever Ben Weber up? Let spring training teammate Joe Valentine show you how.

"I was joking around, because I don't really know anything about same-sex parents," Weber said. "But I said, 'All I know is this: A kid with same-sex parents is going to be pretty (messed) up.' "

Silence.

The next voice - and there's no mistaking the sharp Long Island accent - was Valentine's.

"Well," he said, "I've been raised by two moms."

More silence.

Eyes widened and shoulders shrugged.

"I was like, 'Oh, dude, let me remove the foot from my mouth and apologize,' " Weber said. "But he wasn't offended.

The article goes on to mention how contrary to some opinions, Valentine isn't gay (well, he's married) and that growing up, it wasn't an issue.

"I never, ever looked at somebody else and wished I had a dad," Joe said, "because I was more than happy having two moms."

He just got optioned down to AAA last week, but he should be fine.

The MTV special IMMEDIATELY soured me on the console. Yeah, nice way to sell this... somehow, I get the feeling that the Xbox, as a brand, STILL isn't the first one people think of when they think gaming. But this console DOES look pretty shveet, spec-wise (it's WATER-COOLED, people!).

The way they went about doing it. I wouldn't mind if someone found a way to restrict amendments such as these so that they must be somewhat related to the main bill.
