The kinda sad thing is that there was a Linkin Park one, featuring "Crawling" and "Numb". It wasn't as similar as this one, even after they changed the key of one of the songs (I think "Crawling") to match the other. This one's just hilarious in their laziness.

Neo, yes, "inning" is as you surmise. The word comes from cricket, when one team would "go in" or "have its innings" whle the other team would go out in the field. I think cricketers had been using the word since the 1700s.

One word I always have trouble explaining to non-baseball buffs is "strike" -- it refers to the batter striking at the ball, of course, and doesn't imply whether he actually hits it or not. Since we usually use the word "strike" to mean actually hitting something, it's confusing.

Not only that, but there's called strikes and swings and misses being dubbed strikes as well... when the batter didn't touch the ball in either case.

One thing that it's nice to see announcers getting straight is the ground-rule double. "Ground rule" kind of implies that it's not always the case in every park, like with the catwalks in Tampa Bay and the ivy in Wrigley. But a fair ball bouncing off the ground and into the stands is always a double, everywhere. So I think it was Jon Miller who started to call it an automatic double.

It doesn't, really, but it renders everything ELSE that's running unusable (or at least makes it stop responding). What happened? Here we go.

I've been using Shareaza to download MAME ROM sets. It's too much of a pain in the ass to direct download, so I found a site with hashes for everything. (Mind you, I have to use MSN to use P2P programs, as my school dialup blocks them and uses bandwidth shaping. This is important.) Well, last night, my comp got really slow and unstable. Fired up MaxMem, because I thought I was running out of memory. Sure enough, I was. Did an aggressive clear, and it was okay for a few seconds, then started climbing again. Cracked open the task manager, and found out that vsmon.exe's taking up a LOT of memory. Google said it's a memory leak in Zone Alarm, or someone's trying to shit-hammer my comp with UDP... something. It's not spyware on my side (which they said it's most likely) because I'm clean. Still, I switched from Mozilla to Firefox .9, because I thought it'd use less memory, and I only needed the browser component anyway. Finally just disconnected, unplugged the phone line, plugged it in again, and switched connections. Nothing abnormal.

(The above tangent was because I thought there MAY be a connection.)

So tonight, try again. This time, Shareaza crashes several times, after running for about a minute or two. Then it stays open... and for seemingly no reason, EVERYTHING that's running (Shareaza, Firefox, Trillian Pro) stops responding. Again, I do NOT have this problem on my school connection, only through MSN. Task Manager, end the relevant processes. Except there's two instances of Firefox and Shareaza listed, although only one of each is open. Anyway, I end them... and they don't come off the list. Finally, the WINDOWS for those apps disappear, but they're still listed in the task manager. I reboot and try it again. Once again, being connected to MSN, running Firefox 0.9, and Shareaza 1.8.something conflicts, so I send Shareaza packing and upgrade to 2.0.0.0. And AGAIN it seems to take my comp down for NO REASON. What exactly can I do? The only reason I've been sticking with Shareaza is I have several nearly-complete downloads and it's the one eDonkey client that connects on a regular basis (and when it works, it's the fastest). Any ideas? I would try switching connections but MSN's the only one I can use to download using any P2P software.

Don't really want to use ANOTHER ISP, though... the thing is this only started two days ago. And yes, I do have to use proprietary software to connect (but not to do anything else, mercifully) to MSN. I'll probably try another BT client.

I'm just more concerned with the fact that I'll end the processes for the problem programs and they won't come off the Task Manager list (not the Applications tab, but Processes).

Remote access, HH. It's free and I can't argue with THAT right now. Even though I shoulda lost it almost a year ago... graduated last MAY.

I checked and vsmon.exe is part of Zone Alarm. And the IT people at my alma mater know more about it than I, so I doubt I'll be able to get around them.

I'm from somewhere in central CT. I can't just TELL everyone, now, can I? You're gonna have to do a little research to pin it do--oh hell, Meriden. You?

And yeah, I remember that about the Six Flags guy. Wasn't really paying attention to too many details but I remembered those.

Well, "something better tha OE" isn't a problem... (patpats his copy of Office XP)

And Usenet would solve all of life's problems if I wasn't on dial-up. Maybe once I move out and get broadband.

Okay, we have a thread for this. Newbies are allowed to make polls, but cut down on the choices and don't do it when there's one thread devoted to all things regarding that topic.

That show's classic. They're not afraid to poke some fun at themselves, either (re: the Almost Live special where one person says "It doesn't matter what I say, they're just going to overdub me!") That's what makes it... their willingness to go where no one should, then pass it off as a legit competition.

np: Kinky: "Pos Que Se Vengan"

Think of them as the Mexican Prodigy, only not nearly as guitar-oriented. They're all about more of an actual fusion of electronics and rock. Guitars and drums pretty much supplement the synth elements, and vice versa... they really play off of each other. Of course, it's in Spanish (the title translates to... something "that come") so don't ask me what it's about. But it's a very interesting blend of Latin rock and techno (not just dance, either). You shall listen.

Oh, and next up are a couple of songs by the Notwist. German ambient, electronic indie pop. Think of them like Sonic Youth meeting Belle and Sebastian, or a more melodic (but only slightly less depressing) Arab Strap. Electronics make up most of their sound, with an acoustic guitar plucking out a couple of notes every now and then... at least that was "Pick Up the Phone". "Consequence" is a little strummier and brighter, but still really fucking good.

Toxic: You missed the "as every word in the sentence" bit: "Fuck the fucking fuckers." Where WAS that from, anyway? The MP3 I have of it doesn't have a name or anything attached to it, just "History of the Word Fuck".

And the reason everyone's jumping on Cheney for saying it is that the freepers pounced on Kerry for saying Bush fucked Iraq up in an interview with Rolling Stone. 'Sides, as for Moore, with the attention his movies get, he'd BETTER have a really good fact-checking staff. And from the reviews I read, the second half of the movie's almost totally Moore-free. But let's save that for a thread on the movie itself, no?

Welp... Freddy Garcia's made his way to a two-team town. And he's sticking with the AL.

Yeah, the White Sox sent Miguel Olivo, Jeremy Reed, and some other guy to Seattle for Garcia and Ben Davis. (It'd be more of a if it was the Yankees... who'd YOU think I was talking about?)

Clarification: Xzolaz's question? no, it wasn't enough detail. Bella's got it. Hell, even Boomer's close. Talk about the song, don't say "I'm listening to a bunch of stuff, right now, it's (blah)." Kay?

np: BT feat. JC Chasez: "The Force of Gravity (Dylan Rhymes Push Up Mix)"

Who knew NSYNC had such talented members? Sure, they were tripe, but we all know where Justin Timberlake's gone, and Chasez's actually forged a decent career collaborating with Basement Jaxx and BT. The thing is in this remix, his vocals are chopped up to the point that a tiny bit of them gets used as a melodic element, and that's IT. Nice, rolling bass makes up the majority of the song, along with what sounds like a rather heavily tweakified guitar playing harmonics. Quite a nicely built song, better than the typical "build up to vocals then release" trance song.

Nah. I mean, didn't the White Sox only trust Olivo to catch two of their pitchers? Problems with his game-calling.

So Beltran's been traded (although if the Astros fall out of contention, he may be traded again), Garcia's been shipped off... who's next? We can basically assume that Jamie Moyer's probably gonna go to the Yankees (he can still sort of bring it, even at 147 years young)... what else?
