I don't know that it's genius, from what I've heard of it. Although it certainly is refreshing.

Isn't there a tribal one coming out only in Europe too? Wasn't much of a fan of that one. But this one looks swanktastic.

Busted are the most generic and tame band you can ever imagine, and their reputation is only apparent in the media. They are in essence a product of the media, and thousands of kids adore them thinking they're the most rebelious band in the universe.

A good analogy would be to compare teenyboppers to sheep.

Nuh-uh. I'll see your Busted and raise you a Good Charlotte.

Or, in the words of some characters created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone:

"Oh yeah, well, I'm so counter-culture, I'm GOING to do it."
"I think we jsut got goth-served."

You can escape trends, in a way. Don't give any of them any weight. Do whatever you want, regardless of what it means. You're a grown-ass man who thinks Mandy Moore's cover album probably isn't bad? Go ahead and say so. Just be yourself, and that's the best you can be.

Anyway, I'm making this the official Chappelle's Show thread, and leaving you with this.

Actually, it's been scientifically proven that liking the Libertines DOES make you a better person than a Spice Girls fan. But not as good as a fan of the Darkness.

What's worse is the people who will hate you for just stumbling onto a band that they've liked since the beginning, when they aren't even getting big yet. No scene points for them. What it really comes down to is that you, Elmo, should brush that dirt off your shoulders. That's about all those people are worth anyways... you should be free to listen to whatever you want.

Slight difference: Korn's singer isn't an offensively bad person. Oh, and it should be said that neither of Korn's guitarists could carry Wes's jock, but since he's not in the band anymore...

...of FOUR of the eight charges against him. It's just coming down now, so no link, but he was found guilty of tampering with evidence, tampering with witnesses, hindering apprehension, and fabricating physical evidence. He was cleared on aggravated manslaughter, aggravated assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Reckless homicide is still floating out there, though, and they more than likely won't retry him on this.

If you don't know the story, here's what happened. Williams was a basketball player, with the Nets (he was retired when this happened, though). One night, he allegedly drunkenly shot his limo driver while screwing around with his guns (if you'd seen his segment on Cribs, you'd know he is a bit of a shotgun aficionado). Then he tried to cover it up to make it look like a suicide.

And Jay Williams, the ex-Bull and Duke supastar.

They're talking to one of the jurors... she says that they were split 8-4 on the reckless manslaughter charge, leaning towards not guilty. Shalisha Martin, the juror in question, said the jury wasn't convinced that it was anything more than an accident.

Okay, I know that this is the first post of the thread and all, but back in the olden days, I'd put this in the thread's TITLE, and people still ignored it. I'm not talking about an essay... maybe a pithy comment or two will work. But say something substantial from now on.

Here's why I say this.

Blame the media. No, really. It's all about ratings, so they'll go with what sells. And what sells? Not telling people to do their fucking jobs as parents.

I saw a story here about how crime's down in one big city (okay, it's Hartford) except for license plate theft. They went on about the HORROR and INCONVENIENCE of filing a police report and waiting three days so you can get replacement plates for free. If you don't, you have to pay the OUTRAGEOUS and INHUMANE fee of $25. Their police department's making one-way bolts freely available to residents, though.

What was the point of that story? They weren't telling you that you should file the report, they were wallowing in how PAINFUL and INCONVENIENT it is to go to the DMV and get plates. Are we really that lazy?

Don't answer that, you know it's true. And if people aren't willing to go file reports when someone steals their plates, do you seriously think they're going to take the time and effort to raise their fucking kids right? I'm not talking about keeping the games away from them, either. I mean let them get it, but only when they're responsible enough to play them. And for fuck's sake, STOP FINDING SCAPEGOATS. There IS no one factor that causes violence, and it is a complicated issue. But you're not even close to potentially, possibly, very well plausibly having a chance of maybe thinking about wishing that you could dream of finding something remotely related to a factor by looking at the existence of violent games.
