Random Question [and serious]: Was the NES more powerful than the Genesis sound wise?

Seriously, maybe it's just cause I grew up with NES games when I was just learning to walk also, but to me a lot of NES games have far superior beats and tunes compared to many Genesis games.

Yeah, whenever I think of it I just think of "That good ol' Genesis touch", even though sometimes it wasn't that great.

Games that I thought had really good music on the Genesis would easily be, all Sonic games, Streets of Rage series, Vectorman, Ristar, Thunder Force series, etc.

But yeah, they all had that "thing" in them.

It's not even right to compare the Genesis's music to the SNES's though. Just look at games like Earthworm Jim, and others that appeared on both systems, HUGE difference if you ask me.

Name: Steve (Alias, Xeogred)
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Area of expertice: Hm? Game Design (not rom hacking), gaming, anime, [somewhat] programming.

Skills: Comprehension and common sense. Good understanding. Friendly. Usually know what I'm talking about (providing facts, etc). Some programming.

Highest Obtained Powerlevel: Well, for here, Normal user. But if we're counting 'everywhere', then I can say just about everything. I run my own board, I've been Local Mod's at multiple boards before, promoted to Full Mod on multiple boards before, sometimes I was a "co-board owner", being an administrator. Now, I've pretty much dropped all my moderating at other places besides my board. I used to post a lot more than I used to and at quite a few boards, but now I've pretty much settled down for here, and my board. (Boards I've moderated at in the past: VIzzed, TEK Hacks, Anti-Reality, Devils Oracle, X-Realms, Anime-US, and maybe a few more. These were all Acmlmboard's too)

Forum(s) to Moderate and why:
1. General Gaming - I'm a gamer. I've been gaming since before I could even walk. I know what I talk about when it comes to games, and I keep up with what's New in the business and such. And obviously it's my favorite forum here.
2. Anime Forum - Again, one of my favorite past times. And just taking a look down the forum, you'll see I'm quite active in it and I know what I'm talking about. And currently, this forum contains no moderator.

Recommendations: Ziffski, Emptyeye, Grey, Kyouji Craw, NSNick, Davideo7, DarkSlaya, VGFreak877, Randy53215.

453 days ago, is how long I've been here basically. So, I'm not exactly a newbie when it comes to this place. I'm kind of a quieter person though, truthfully I don't know a lot of people here other than a handful or two. Those people I do know, I'd consider to be 'friends of the board' and 'cool' people.

If I were made staff, I can assure you I'd absolutely do my best, like I always and will always do here. This is a good and fun board, and usually the first website I visit upon logging unto the net. The community is great, it has it's hardships, but this place usually seems to get through things and keep on going stronger than ever.

If I were made staff, I'd do my best of what I can to moderate the forum(s) I could be put over to the best of my ability. I'd ensure that there is no spam allowed, the rules are laid out and that the members of the board will follow them. I know the usual warning system and I'd take it to that step if I have to.

If members needed help, I'd help them. I even do now just as a regular person. I don't flame somebody, just because he might not know what [something] is, rather I help that person, and or lead him/her into the direction that would help him/her.

Also, on all of the boards that I've been on that I have become a part of staff with, I've always been completely involved and aware of what goes on regarding staff discussions. And, I'd always bring up issues, and concerns, or maybe just possible suggestions that would be possibly better for the board or something, whenever I had them.

On a final note: I completely understand, and usually will tell this to others: Being staff is a privelage, and not a need to your own personal gratification.

Well I recently edited my profile.php page and basically inserted "User Comments". (Assuming you've heard of them on other boards or something) and yadda yadda ...

It's all working fine, but I decided maybe everyone doesn't want to have people commenting on them in their profile? So, I've attempted making it optional to turn off and on.

I created a variable, and this quite possibly may be the thing that's not right:
usercomm, tinyint 1, not null, default 1
0 = off
1 = on

The problem is, once this option is turned off by any user, it's turned off globally for everyone on the board. Thus, Comments are not shown for anyone. (They get "This user has disabled user comments" obviously, since I made it say that. Check my board if you need to actually see it or something)

I didn't exactly want it to go that way.
I just wanted the option, to turn layouts off for that person alone.

So, in profile.php here is what I have basically:
[What I have added]

if ($loguser[usercomm]==0) $ucom=0;
if ($loguser[usercomm]==1) $ucom=1;
if ($ucom==1) {
[insert all the basic code here]
}
if ($ucom==0) {
$addcomment = "This user has disabled user comments.";
}

That's basically all I've added at attempting to do this.

If needed, the $addcomment variable appears towards the end of the User comments code in:

if ($logpwenc and $loguser[powerlevel]>=0)
$addcomment = "

<input type=hidden name=action value=addcomment>$inpt=usercom SIZE=60> &nbsp; <input type=submit value='Add Comment'></form>";<br> else $addcomment = "You must be logged in to add a comment for this user";

If that means anything, or something.

Well, hopefully someone can tell me what the problem is. My guess, is the variable itself might just need to simply be changed to something else. But, my php / MySQL knowledge is pretty low, so who knows ...

I can't say I've even heard of The Chronicles of Narnia ...

But yeah, Revenge of the Sith is going to push the envelope I'm sure. Heck, if I had a costume, I'd seriously dress up.

The Lion doesn't look too bad either.

I'm a little dark age'd out though, and wouldn't mind more Sci-Fi movies at the moment though.

Anya & Others: Trust me, unless there's two versions of it or it's on multiple games, "Sonic Boom" is on Sonic CD.

I never played Sonic R though, but I've heard it's pretty good.

Still though ... this game has Sonic freaking CD!

Anyone remember the really old Sonic anime, that had a few episodes with the planet from Sonic CD? And it had Amy, and everything else that resembled the game.

Also, if anyone didn't know (not a big deal but just to point it out) Sonic CD was the first game to introduce Amy, and Metal Sonic.

So Genesis had bigger sound than NES, just wasn't nearly as advanced as SNES

The sound on Genesis is more comparable to playing MIDI's on really old sound cards (before sampled instruments) or module formats on Adlib, rather than low-quality MP3's ... it's perfectly clear sound, just limited to a certain category of waveforms (FM synth) that gives it its own feel, and it really doesn't sound bad if you like NES music

Hey, I never said the Genesis music was bad or anything!

I guess I'm just an upstuck Megaman bitch.
(The Megaman tunes on the NES were by far more than extravagent, up there with Blaster Master, Battletoads, Super Mario Bros series, Metroid, Zelda, Final Fantasy, etc)

*Goes to listen to Flash Man's theme*

Hmm, that's probably right then.

What I have in editprofile.php is pretty simple:
$checked8[$loguser[usercomm]]='checked=1';

$usercom="
$radio=usercomm value=0 $checked8[0]> Disabled
$radio=usercomm value=1 $checked8[1]> Enabled";

Then in the main update field with all the user stuff, and I have usercomm=$usercomm in that.

So, I should probably just put a WHERE clause after that?

No, no, that's wrong (and so is the "INSERT WHERE CLAUSE HERE" thing, it's perfectly fine as-is)

However, your first fatal error is right here -- loguser stores the logged in user's variables, not that certain profile's variables. Chances are not that it's off for everyone, but for just you.

You need to change it to whatever variable contains the user's variable for that.

Well I did suspect it was only affecting me, but then I was logged out it was still turned off for everyone. Maybe cookies?

Regardless, Xk you were right. Changed $loguser to $user, and it now works perfectly fine.

Thanks guys, the help is appreciated.
