 You know, the new board is inspiring me to make a new post layout. I like my old one, but I'd had it since 2001. I don't have any inspiration tonight, but perhaps I shall sit down in front of the GIMP tomorrow and start messing about. Count me in among the Dormant Users Club. I blame that on a full-time job, part-time cosplay work (I need to get my Berserker Rikku outfit done for Anime Central, which is 2 months away, and all I have is one halfway-painted shoulder pauldron...and yes, I have been busting my butt on this outfit for the last 3 weeks or so...) and not being in a chatty mood in general. Blergh. I need to come out of my shell more.

Symphony of the Night is one of my all-time favorite games. It's like a gothic Super Metroid (which I also enjoyed very much) with RPG elements. It's so much fun to explore the castle, find hidden stuff, add to your collection of dropped items (and there are tons and tons of these to find), and build up Alucard's stats. The difficulty of the game can easily be adjusted to your playing style, too. Having trouble? Level up a buttload, find the good items (like the Crissaegrim, the Godly Sword of Smashy Smashy Goodness), and Soul Steal when you get stuck. Want a challenge? Equip crap (or nothing), or try the 99 Luck Code, which gives you lots of luck but sends your other stats into the pits of oblivion. You can also play as Richter Belmont, which is a very different experience. |
Of course, SOTN's gorgeous graphics and stunning soundtrack are a bonus, too.

Ziff - Yay for costuming! Just watch out...you might get addicted once you discover just what sort of nifty stuff you can make. That's what happened to me. I got it into my head to cosplay Felicia at Otakon 2002 (which wasn't a bad thing at all, especially because it gave me a good kick in the pants to get back into regular lifting and proper eating), and then I redid the body part of the costume for Otakon 2003, and now I'm working on something incredibly complex and time-consuming (but I know I'm going to be very proud of it once it's done). And you'd better post pix, umkay? |

I made mine up nine years ago when I started developing an online presence (which was initially through the WWW access provided at school). I always thought Rydia of FFIV was teh w00t, but I wanted an original name, and I was also interested in numerology and thought that said name's letters should add up to the sum of my birthdate. (I forget exactly how that worked, but I read it in some book at the bookstore. There was some sort of table where you looked up each letter's value.) An N did the trick, so I added it and flopped the letters around and liked the result so much that it stuck. |
Oddly enough, I've seen very few other Rydains in that time, and I've only ever had to add stuff to this name to get a login for a website once (that was on Neopets, where I'm rydain_darkstar).

My quiet blog runs on b2 because I didn't know diddlysquat about web programming when I set it up. Now that I've been working as a web developer for nearly a year, I know much more Perl, SQL, and JavaScript than I did back then (read: none), so I have the knowledge to set up my own stuff...but I'd probably still go with a prebuilt system because I have limited free time, and after spending 40 hours a week banging on code, I'm not that inclined to do it at home for free. |

Does anyone else read their recaps or hang out on their boards? I've been putzing around the American Idol boards for a while. (I used to be Rydain over there, but my account got snarfed in their upgrade, so I made a new one as Narf Vader.) The recaps are hilarious, and the boards are tons of fun as well. Snarking on people on TV for any reason (or none at all) is supported and encouraged...hence tht title of the website. If you like to watch TV with cynicism and a very large grain of salt, I recommend you check it out.

Is Virgil a brindled dog with mainly orange fur? The local pet store has a resident boxer mix with that sort of fur pattern. That was the first time I'd seen a doggie colored like that - brindled dogs usually seem to have black fur with lighter stripes. |

Debian is teh w00tness. Its default installer is not nearly as user-friendly as that of, say, Mandrake (I looked at it and immediately made Rando do the dirty work...he's great at installing weird stuff, and I'm lazy |
), but I think the packaging is much better. Under Mandrake 8, I had to deal with dependency hell, and RPMDrake magically broke one day and we never figured out how to fix it. On the other hand, Debian's packaging software is quite reliable, dependency problems are rare (and usually fixed with a dist-upgrade), and there's even synaptic, which is a nice GUI front end for the command-line tools. You do have to go with the unstable version if you want recent packaged software, but I haven't had any complaints about its stability. My box's record uptime was around 120 days, and then we had to physically move said box, which required that we unplug it. (restricted) |
