(edit: if you're wondering, Idid that all myself in Paint... no base, no nothing. A good idea is to draw some baselines for your letters -- the top, the bottom, and the 'midpoint' -- it really helps)

Once again, I bring to you this problem. There hasn't been anything 'unusual' latley (read: gallons of HD activity) and the problem ahs actually gone away... sort of. Everything chokes on this bloated DIR and I can't do anything to stop it because it's so goddamned big.

Hell, I told it to output a DIR command to a file and I'm still waiting for it to finish (it's been going for a few minutes now)

Everything's named "2004-09-28_09-42-10-63776371" -- YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS-????????"

I just opened the log it's creating... as of now there are over a hundred thosand lines in it, and it's still growing.

Deleting it isn't possible -- I've tried. It'll just hang for some reason.

Make that log over 140,000 lines now. And growing.

Anyway, if anyone could find any thing at all that could've caused this, I would greatly appreciate it -- I've only found one thing (this) and that didn't help.

Okay, it finished with 162356 lines. The directory takes up 12.5 GB of space (which is why it would likely be impossible to delete)

I'll post the DIR log soon, it's the first time I've actually been able to see it

Actually, just to let you know, I had already said -- if this had been for anything else, yes, I would've done it too. Believe me.

My main point, however, was that it is incredibly stupid to post a thread because you changed software. It's like making a thread about how you changed from Trillian to GAIM -- It's something that not only doesn't warrant a thread, it's something no one cares about and shouldn't be a waste of a perfectly good ID number on such a stupid thread.

But whatever -- I'm sure you'll continue to think I made this because I hate FF (not that I don't -- believe me, I hate it just as much as always) but it's because of that and the fact that a) the poster is a retard and b) no one fucking cares about a single person switching to something else

Not to mention, remember -- Google only searches though what it archives (which isn't very oftne, I would assume -- too often would kill some sites)

A board search would work with live data, not stale data.

The "limited to post count / registration time" thing is stupid -- you may be a new user who had heard of things and wanted to find them, and wouldn't -- or you may be a lurker who never posted.

A fun piece of irony: Having a 2000-post limit would stop 67%* of the staff from searching the forums, INCLUDING Acmlm himself.

It would also stop 99%** of the board from searching. That's still insane, and lowering it to 1000 wouldn't help much either -- it'd still lock out a very large majority of the board.

It'd be kinda wierd if you couldn't search your own board

*9 people on staff are above 2000 posts. 28 people on staff, including Malow, ||bass, and Blades, even though they're not technically staff. Doing the math, 19/28 = 67.8%
*18 people above 2000 posts, 1434 users total. 1416/1434 = 98.74%

And to think I haven't played that game yet...

...but then, I suck at strategy games like that.

Melvin would play that game all the time, as well as Super Robot Wars (whatever the Jap one ont he GBA was)

Seems like a lot of people like AW though, mabye I should look into it =/

It is pretty huge (a lot bigger than the PS2 -- that's for sure) and now that you mention it it does look like a pencil sharpener.

The PS3 may use wireless controllers (explains the lack of ports) but all in all it's too big and I don't like the rounded design. It'd suck if this was partially incorperated into the future design, though

*Xkeeper hugs GAIM and TRILLIAN, which (while not supporting the handwriting feature) do not force you to use it or pop up stupid "omg lol ur downloed is slew" boxes

That's because the handwriting feature is COOL and you should NEVER disable it because it's COOL and you should ALWAYS USE IT because it's COOL and look at me I'm MICROSOFT THOUGHTS

em.

Just try and downgrade, if possible. Obviously the newer MSNM fails.

Big suprise at who's at the top though... doesn't ever get OLD constantly having the most posts every day?

We've always made jokes about the not-so-Private Messages, but I even checked -- the original board (at acmlm.overclocked.org/board/ does, in fact, say Private messages -- here it just says Messages.

Interesting that osmoene would point that out, it's such a small change it seems like no one should've seen it.

Yeah, good point -- after all, having two boxes just for "You've got system messages =o" seems very pointless... Though people would probably PM the system account

And one more thing -- are you ever going to move the PM notice on other pages somewhere else? Where it's at it's very annoying and gets in the way
