I suppose I should add that Disch brings up some good points as well -- all I have to wonder is, why not make a sort of GBS-E format if you want titles, timing, or whatever, or go code another GBS player with the features you want, like interpolation?

Pros of GBS->GSF conversion
1. Some sound enhanchments, like interpolation or whatever
2. Track names, timings, and other such things
3. Individual files for each track

Cons
1. Much higher CPU load (GBS's play wonderfully on the old 250MHz/32MB RAM laptop during normal usage, but a GSF will play one second of music every ten seconds - comparably, the 2.X GHZ computer in the living room plays GBS's with roughly 1-2% CPU load; GSF's use about 16%)
2. Higher file size
3. Requirement to convert a simple format to a much more complex one
4. Requirement to fix the bugs that will inevitably appear with the music player / files

Not to mention that this is doing nothing in the way of ripping GB/C music -- it's just converting it to another format. Ripping GBS files is still as unknown and (likely) difficult as before.

The problem is, the GBS format is still going nowhere. All they're doing is converting them to another format.

It's like MID -> MP3.

Now if they were to actually do something, like make new files off of games that weren't previously ripped, I would change my mind somewhat -- but as it stands, I"m not going to sacrifice speed for a minor enhanchment.

Oh, and so you know, a new GBS player was released a while ago. It doesn't play some GBSes (like the Zelda: Oracle games) but it sounds somewhat better.

Try putting back the original graphics. If they're still jumping out of control, you screwed something else up.

I consider her more of an annoyance. THAT NEVER GOES AWAY.

Also, I let Erk die in the 15th chapter. (okay, so I didn't *let* him, but still!)

  • Going next to another player's trail (or your own trail) such that sparks appear increases your speed. HOWEVER, doing so next to one of the outer walls does NOT increase your speed, despite the appearance of sparks.

  • Bikes appear wide but I think they are infinitely thin. In any case, they are much thinner than they appear and your sides can be going through walls or trails. Additionally, they don't seem to have a turning radius. That means your capabilitis in a tight spot are limited only by your frames per second and reflexes.

  • Hit the camera switch button (default 'c') four times for first-person mode! This is incredibly difficult to play in, but fun to watch other people in after you die.

I actually play FP mode -- if there was a camera mode that was right behind and above you, as opposed to the loose trailing camera, I would use that... but FP mode works fine, I guess

Well, I was reading Digital Fortress, but... well...

10:40 PM: START reading book at page 0
02:47 AM: FINISH reading book at end

And it was a pretty long book (and very good read!) but I obliterated it in a little over 4 hours...

Well, after getting stuck on a later chaptre (the one with the pirate ship) I gave up, and eventually lost the game, so it doesn't really matter.

If I still had it I would break out the GS, as I always do for games I get a Game Over on for the... oh... 30th time.

(for the uninformed, Nephi is a LoZ: LA DX editor in QB/DOS)

Did MatrixZ just give up on it, or is it still being worked on, or what? Because as far as I know, no document of the level format (and overworld format) was ever released and the editor's still a little, uh, feature-less
