| Japan has some good college and industrial-league rugby teams. I'm suprised to see them win it, but it wasn't a complete shocker. | |||

| although the better one is Cubs/White Sox. Their fans won't acknowledge the existence of the other team. I would say that White Sox fans are obsessed with the Cubs and can't stop thinking about them! They get more excited about a Cubs loss than a Sox win! |

| See, now I want to see him leave Cincinnati because they're one of the Cubs' biggst NL Central rivals this year. Whatever helps the Cubs win more often is what I want to see. Always respected Griff as a player though -- just don't want him hurting The Cause. |

| Someone hacked the BS F-Zero courses so that there's an "Ace League" containing only the five new tracks. It's playable, but occasionally doesn't load properly, plus sometimes the backgrounds are glitchy. Still fun if you're an F-Zero buff (as I am). | |||

| WHOA! People are already working on F-Zero!? I just discovered this forum after posting at Dragon Eye Studios (soon to be defunct) in an effort to get my F-Zero track editing project moving. Working from scratch, I discovered a few things, but in other areas you guys are ahead of me. Check out: http://forums.dragoneyestudios.net/thread.php?id=806 I'll post more of my findings when I have some time. I figured out how to edit the tile elements that make up the tracks -- there are 256 of them, and each one has a two-pixel indicator before it showing when (if) the track should change color or flash (such as when you hit a barrier). For some odd reason, these are in Genesis format. Off the top of my head, this might have started at 60200 (60201 if you don't count the two pixels). This is a great project! I already have several track ideas half-done. Does anyone know how to edit the BS cars into this game? Graphics would be doable, but I'm talking about the data. Or, failing that, editing the stats of those cars in? I can't find the max speeds, body strengths, etc. of the four main cars yet. EDIT /b]Check out my palette-hacked Big Blue; you'll have to click since Geocities doesn't allow external linking: http://www.geocities.com/tuffydabubba/bigbluenew.gif (The course is still the same, but the ocean water is now in lighter, more tropical shades of blue, and the barriers are green. I also fiddled with the font; it looks nicer now in my opinion) I've also connected the Sand Ocean and Silence tracks, which are drawn on the same map. Go here: http://www.geocities.com/tuffydabubba/sandocean-silence.jpg Here's a very simple (and ugly) hack of Big Blue where you can circle back over the starting line easily and finish in 30 seconds or less: http://www.geocities.com/tuffydabubba/bigblue.JPG Whaddayareckon? | Hi everyone, I'm Heian-794. You can probably guess where I live from my name. With DES about to disappear, this forum was recommended to me, so I came by. And you guys are already working on the same project I'm doing! (F-Zero hacking!) Gotta get an editor made for this game! Anyway, nice to meet you all. |

| In Japan they teach mostly American English, to the point where poor British, Aussie, NZ teachers find themselves being "corrected" by Japanese people who can barely speak English to begin with! Plus, thanks to the central government, the poor Japanese teachers have to speak a Tokyo-based "common language" instead of the intonation of the area they live in. That's nuts. |

| Hey! Some Cubs fans on this board! Big win today against the rival Astros. Didn't think JoBo could close it out the way he's been going, but he managed. Now if Cincinnati could just start losing... |

| ZSNES has frozen my computer several times in just three days of use, whereas I've used SNES9x for years without a problem. Also -- and this is inexcusable -- ZSNES uses some non-standard bitmap fonts for menus and directories. Heaven forbid you should be running a PC with non-Roman characters, which appear fine in S9X but not in ZSNES. You won't be able to find your files! |

Toxic, I'm assuming that the rules are basically the same as DES (except the EXP seems to be calculated differently ), and I can't be faffed to make exotic graphics and SQL post counters or whatever that stuff is.I see from the sports thread that you're a Cubs fan -- big win yesterday! |

| Sorry, didn't know the guy was banned. *just now noticing the name was written in gray* It's not every day that a poster names himself after a somewhat obscure suburb of the place you live in! (If you haven't been to northern Kyoto, get yourself here. Especially when the seasons change.) But anyway... some of the DES guys recommended coming here, and since some people here are working on the same hack as I am, I'm quite grateful to have many more people to toss ideas around with. It's really too bad about that board dying. They needed about $110 to stay afloat for a year, and the notice of he board's impending doom was sort of sprung on to everybody. I hope more people from there migrate over here. |

| Call me elitist scum, but I think the fans shouldn't vote. Let the managers do it (as they did in the past... '60s?) instead. They've got ballots available in Japan and people are just checking off H. Matsui, K. Matsui, and Ichiro, and then either elaving the rest blank or voting for all Yankees. It's ridiculous. The only problem I could see with the managers voting is if one of them gets an order from his owner/GM to avoid having his own players selected so that the team doesn't have to pay out bonuses. But that's small potatoes compared to the travesties that we've been seeing these past few years. |

| Arwon, your example about "the car is red" sounds normal enough, since most speakers from any country run the words together and say "thecarisred". But what sounds completely, totally, off-the-wall bizarre about Aussie accents (to me) is how they'll avoid consecutive vowels and insert an R sound where there is none, such as: Aussie: I saw a Honderadd on TV. Me: What's a Honderadd? (totally confused) Aussie: You know, an advertisement for Honda. Me: Ah, I'd call that a Honda ad. Aussie: That's what I said, a Honderadd. I'll never understand you guys! |

| Majin, I want to hear these! (How do you play single SPCs, if i may ask? I have the Winamp plugin; is that enough?) I've made an IPS patch for my palette-and-font-edited extremely preliminary F-Zero hack. All the tracks are still the same. www.geocities.com/tuffydabubba/FZero-fontandblue.zip I also played Nestea's hacks. The one with the red barriers and beige background / green sky -- did you do that one with a palette editor? I really like using vSNES to find the colors, and then editing them in Yousei's palette editing program. Check out my patch for a good-looking Big Blue color hack. Speculations on how to edit the tracks soon -- I've got no time just now. So far we've established that we can edit the sequence of big 32x32-tile "panels", and also the little 8x8 pixel tiles that form these. How about the way in which the game puts these tiles together to form panels? Surely this is compressed, since even a single tile would take 20h x 10h = 200h bytes, and there are 256 such panels. Has anyone had any luck in finding them? Where did you find the panel layouts? (By this I mean which little tiles make up each big 32x32 panel.) I can't find this stuff anywhere, though. Also, I think there are panels higher than 7F. One would be a blank gray track panel, which is either 9E or AF on Sand Ocean/Silence. (edited by Heian-794 on 06-02-04 01:52 PM) |

| A GBA emulator that allows you full access to the memory, etc., inside the machine would be priceless for hackers. Is there one which offers the features of vSNES? And Melvin (if you're still reading this thread)... you do know that the Japanese and the English in your sig don't exactly match... don't you? |

| The thread about GBA emulators and linking made me want to ask... with the E-Reader cards not being available outside Japan, a lot of people are going to be left out of some of the hidden features on these cards. It would be nice if someone could save them as code and then load them, patch-style, into VBA. Anybody know? | |||

| Another thing is that if the managers voted, players on low-attendance teams (like the Expos) coult be evaluated fairly. The international ballots aren't exactly neutral and unbiased either. I've got a Japanese ballot in front of me, and for the example, they say "fill in the circle as follows: o HIDEKI MATSUI I seem to recall an American ballot years ago using a generic name like "SMITH", but not so in Japan! I also remember reading about one season in the '50s or '60s when fans voted and some Cincinnati people set up a machine that punched all the Reds players, consequently getting seven of the eight starters on their team elected. The commissioner then declared this invalid and later the vote was taken from the fans. There was no talk of doing this in 2001 or 2003, despite basically the same actions occurring from Japanese fans voting for Ichiro and H. Matsui. Just let the managers and coaches choose -- fellow players will stiff a guy that they don't like personally, fan voting has all kinds of inequities, and god forbid they should let sportswriters do it again! ; |
