No. However, if you ever use a warp on that save file, you won't be able to access world 9.

Still, you have it fairly easy. On the FDS original, you had to beat the game 8 times to access the secret world A, B, C and D. In one sitting. Yeah.

Wait, are we talking about the GC game or the GBA game here?

The GC game actually has a decent single-player (unlike the trash that is Crystal Chronicles... blah), and can be entertaining enough if you're unable to play with others. The GBA game, however, doesn't have singleplayer at all. Yeah, it kinda sucks, but if you think about how the game works, it would be impossible to play it alone (you can play alone on an emulator, though it's a bitch to control, and you have to abuse savestates in order to survive enough to get the required amount of rupees. But, it works).

As for the GC game, the Japanese original is a lot better than the US one. Someone appearantly decided that Navi Trackers, an extremely fun party game that beats Mario Party any day, isn't something you english-speaking people would want, so they simply ditched it. Boo. So import. It's worth it.

You know, you're the only person I've seen who thinks Navi Trackers isn't complete and utter trash.

Anyway, the reason it was dumped is most likely because of the name you enter being synthesized and spoken by Tetra, something that would be relatively impossible to do in English.

Come on, would it be THAT complicated to have her yell "green Link", "red Link", ect. in english instead of whatever name you enter?

And I've met a lot of people who like Navi Trackers. Can't see why it would be that unpopular.

Too childish? That's ridicolous. It's a fun game, and it's not like Zelda is known for extreme violence either (which seems to be what attracts gamers who refuse to play something they deem chilish).

The gameplay is simple enough: You get a map on the TV, showing you the locations of pirates, and then you run around looking for the one carrying the lowest number on the GBA. Talk to him, and get 1-5 medals, depending on the type of pirate, whether you talked to him at the right time, and how many multiplier stars you have. Add in various items like Warp Balloons, mini games that will earn you more multiplier stars, special modes that will affect the map (like switching all the pirates, or showing their numbers on TV), and various other ways to get points.

A lot of fun for the entire family. Too bad you need a GBA and a GBA-GC-cable for each player.

Can't remember anything about Eagle's Tower, but the fourth dungeon had a place that would force you to restart.
There's this incredibly difficult jump over deep water that looks impossible, but isn't, which leads to a stairway leading to an underground passage. You need to unlock a door or a block to access this passage after doing the jump. Well, you are supposed to swim to this keyhole, and the key you're supposed to use is found underwater. Well, if you unlock this door/block BEFORE you get the flippers, you won't have enough keys to get them. And, without the flippers, you won't be able to get the last key either.

You're figting too weak enemies. Go fight some better ones. You don't need higher than 3 at that point anyway.

As for stats, you don't need to cheat or abuse the system. Simply keep your evade high, and you'll do just fine. Evade is the most important stat in this game.

Okay, about the transformations, I believe the tree outside the Palace of Darkness say that it was when Gannondorf touched the Triforce the power of evil started flowing, and everybody were turned into mirror images of their heart.

As for Gannon keeping his form outside the Golden Land, I believe that is because he holds the Triforce of Power. Or maybe because he stayed in the Golden Land for so long. I'm not sure.

But anyway, I actually beat Four Swords now. The ending isn't really exciting or anything
Spoiler:
(Links seal Vaati in the sword, Zelda is freed, the sword turns Link back into one person, and he places the sword back in the shrine. The end.)
, but Zelda does mentoin that Link saved her "again", which proves that this is a Link we've played as before. And again, I believe it's the LttP/LA-Link.

GTA.
And Counter-Strike, which is still played today in Norway. The CS players tend to hate all games more than a year old for their graphics, but still play CS. Yeah..
Oh, and Halo. It's not that I dislike it, it's just that I don't think it's more than a half decent FPS, rather than the reincarnation of every god that ever was, is or will be.

And if it counts, Advance Wars and all the other "there are unlimited resources and you opponents have access to the same units as you" turn based strategy games. Give me Fire Emblem style any day.

As for stuff I like, but no one else does, the 3D Castlevanias and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. All 3 are fun little games, in fact, SotE happens to be my favourite Star Wars game. I just can't see why those games are so hated.

If you have 2 of a weapon, you'll gain double the amount of experience for it. Thus, you'll be able to raise it higher.

Well, if she is hit, she'll gain HP. Simple as that. You gain HP as you need it, that's what makes the system so great. Well, at least the original, the GBA remake give you stats seemingly at random, and overlevels you no matter what.

Apart from the fourth character, who never really stay long enough to be important, dual wield away, but try to avoid it for the others. You need the evade from the shields.

Oh, and are you using Maria with a bow in the back row? Don't You don't get hit back there, so you don't gain HP, and then you die a lot. Try giving her a cane instead (they boost magic, and hit surprisingly hard), and put her in the front row.

I thhought that title was usually reserved for Action 52 (which definitly deserves it).

Road Rash didn't suck. Yes, it took me some time to think of an example. I doubt I can come up with another one.

They won't release their own console though, since they'll make more money by releasing their games for every single console still supported. People don't buy EA games because they are EA games, they buy them because they have the official license. Appearantly, if you're playing as G. O. Solsker instead of O. G. Solskaer, the experience is a lot worse, even if the game is better.

Longest: Eh.. I'll just say Tales of Symphonia, even though I haven't beaten it yet. It's long.

Shortest: Adventure for the 2600. It's fun, and has a high replay value (you can randomize the entire game), but it takes like 5 minutes to beat, if even that.

Easiest: Sonic Drift for Game Gear. When you can beat EVERY stage at the highest difficulity without much trouble the first time you play it, something's wrong. I think I died at least once in the original Kirby.

Hardest: No idea. There's a lot of hard games out there. I'll just put Battletoads (NES) for now.

Well, Retro Gamer #13 (or "vol. 2, issue 1", as the cover says) just arrived in the mail, and what do I find but a 5 page article on ROM hacking. Okay, it doesn't go very in-depth, and the only hacking utility they comment on is NESticle, but still...

It also featured a list of the so-called "Best ROM hacks", which appearantly is:

Super Mario Remix II
Girls' Night Out
Metroid Remix
Legend of Zelda: Curse from the Outskirts
Mario Kart Hyper Battle
And, yes.. Strange Mario World

Sorry, I don't have a scanner, but I'll type up the part of the article that talks about how to hack.

Ahem:

"A full blown how-to is beyond the scope of this feature, but here's a simple introduction to hacking a NES game. To get started, you'll need some software. Pick a game you want to work with (make sure you've gt the original, ahem), then go online and find a working ROM, along with an emulator to play it.
Many modern emulators, such as NESticle, already include hacking tools. For example, pause the playback of a ROM in NESticle and press F4 to View Palette. This'll let you play with the game's colours. Want to turn Mario green and pretend he's from space? This is one way to do it.
With a bit of work, you can find a variety of programs online that can help you mess around with ROMs. In order to design entirely new levels, you'll need a hex editor such as Hex Workshop, which will translate a ROM's binary files from unusable and unreadable text to hackable hex code. This is the best way of altering a game's graphics, but it tends to require a great deal of double-checking and reloading.
Here's a simple example of how to change some text. Let's say we're playing Super Mario Bros and we want to rewrite the text on the title screen. Launch the ROM in NESticle, and when the title comes up, pause the emulation. Press F2 to check the game's tiles, and write down each letter's hex files. Now, open the ROM in your hex editor and change the files as you see fit.The ROM won't let you write anything longer than the original statement, but that gives you a bit of leeway.
Obviously, this isn't a process for the faint of heart or the easily bored. You can pull off relatively simple hacks in a surprisingly short amount of time, especially with the right emualtion software, but the more complicated you intend to get, the more intesive this will become. Some of the larger mods have been years in the making.
For more specific details and tutorials, take a look at www.romhacking.com/docs/gendocs.php and www.jeffsromhack.com/toolbox/index.htm. Many of the more popular hacks, meanwhile, can be downloaded at Zophar's Domain (www.zophar.net/hacks) or Aeon Genesis Translation Projects (http://agtp.romhack.net)"

Before this part, there was an introduction, as well as a "what is a ROM hack" part. The "How to hack"-part was then followed by a list of the 6 best ROM hacks, with pictures and descriptions, and descriptions of 6 "Unofficial NES ports" ("Street Fighter 2", "Super Donkey Kong 2", "Family Kid" (Sonic the Hedgehog port), the graphic hacks "Super Mario World 9" and "Wario Land 2", as well as SNES hack "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" (wtf? This was supposed to be about NES games. They don't outright tell you it's a SNES game either ("This 24mb cart..."), and they don't mention it's a graphic hack of Speedy Gonzales at all.)
All this is follow by an interview with Jeff Kulczyki of www.jeffsromhack.com.

Sorry, my vacation starts tomorrow, and I won't have internet access until Sunday night, so I won't be able to get anything scanned until next week. But hey, I can't be the only person on the board who read Retro Gamer, can I? I know it's a british magazine, but still.

Anyway, here's what it said about your hack (Curse from the Outskirts, right?)

"This game is from pretty much the same genre as Super Mario Remix II, only backwards. Instead of turning a classic RPG into a Mario game, it turns the original Super Mario Brothers into a demented side-scrolling Zelda game! All sorts of Zelda enemies, new gameplay, and maps nothing like the original SMB make this one a real treat. It's super-challenging too, making this a real test for expert gamers."

EDIT: Oh, btw, Live Publishing has a forum where you can comment on each individual issue. For those who want to express their opinion on this article, this is where you do it.

I beat Mario is Missing as well. 25 levels, isn't it? I didn't learn much geography from it, though, as my knowledge of the english language was really limited back then, and I answered the questions by either randomly guessing, or by looking quickly through the pamphlet looking for words that were in the question. Yeah.

I did learn quite a bit of english from it, though.
