Got it. I suspect this is what Sendy ran into in December... Except this time, there was just enough evidence still left in the ROM to let me track the cause down.

A new version of LM will be released in a few days. In the meantime Claw, I suggest not modifying your hack any further (but if you must, just do NOT save the Map16 data!). When the next version is released, download it and follow the instructions in the update before trying to save the Map16 data.

Change the address to 40200 for GFX, or 100200 for ExGFX.

This version is mostly a bug fix release. I was rather concerned about the effects of the "Count Sprites" bug (especially in 1.60), which is what prompted this update. You can read more about it in the help file or readme.txt file.

As usual, you can get it from http://fusoya.cg-games.net.

Edit: CG is down, try http://fusoya.panicus.org.

A minor bugfix? Good nonetheless. And here's a bug for you while you're at it: If you modify the palette when on a level not using a custom pallete, then make it so it uses one, the "Save Palette Changes" and "Discard Changes" buttons will remain pressable, possibly with side-effects.

And that's as it should be, as there's no way to know if the person had previously made other changes in another level and still wanted to keep them (and there should be no side effects, the custom palette is separate from the shared palettes).

Check the size of the ExGFX file you inserted. Might be SNES RAM being overwritten...

Open it in a hex editor, and chop it out. The file shouldn't be larger than 4 K for regular level graphics (up to but not including offset 0x1000 in a hex editor).

If it isn't part of the shared palettes, just extract the palette from a savestate and use a hex editor to find the color values being used in the ROM.

And ignore what I just said about how LM does custom palettes. Think I may have just used the pointer value for that one... a sad day when you don't remember how your own editor works. Although it has been 3 years since that was put in.

Eh? It should go without saying, but perhaps I'd better say it anyway to clear this up. Except for DWTLC (which specifically required making the patch that way for legal reasons because I converted the SMW ROM to a size larger than 4MB), there is currently no reason for anyone to require using Lunar Expand on SMW.

Yes, a few people can get an expanded ROM to load with a messed up patch that won't load otherwise... but the ROM is still going to be corrupt as that doesn't correct the underlying problem : the patch!

If several people say your patch isn't working, 9 times out of 10 it's because you've used the wrong files to create it, so that's the first thing you should be checking. It's fairly easy to accidently modify your original ROM with LM or apply a patch to it and then forget about it, so be careful.

And I'm not saying this just for Clockworkz... I've noticed a few people make bad patches recently. A little bit of extra care can save yourself (and others) a needless headache.

The game supports up to 120 events, but the title screen is only set to display up to 96, and will remain at 96 if you exceed it. It can be changed, but HH is right, if you want more than 2 digits you have some recoding to do.

Perhaps it was his, perhaps it was yours... I don't have the patch to check myself. It was the bit about expansion that bothered me. There is simply no reason to expand a ROM prior to patching it if the patch was made using the original unmodified ROM, because the patch will expand the ROM for you.

If you made a mistake and used a modified ROM in place of the original to create the patch, the ROM will be messed up for everyone else. Expanding the ROM prior to patching is not going to fix anything other than the size.

If he made a mistake and used a modified ROM to apply the patch, the ROM will be messed up for him. Expanding the ROM prior to patching is not going to fix anything other than the size.

And if for some reason you just intentionally expanded your original ROM with Lunar Expand and used it as the "unmodified" ROM to create the patch (thus making expanding the ROM prior to patching actually necessary for everyone else), then I'd have to ask why, because that just makes it more work for everyone else to apply it. Unless done for legal reasons like with DWTLC (SMW ROM larger than 4MB), it serves no purpose and should be avoided.

That's all.

It might, if you haven't read the help file. It states pretty directly how it only uses layer 1 and sprites to determine the screen number.

If I make another game editor someday, it probably wouldn't be for a Mario game... it'd be nice to do something different.

And this is technically the wrong forum, so... *moves thread*.

No. It must be version 1.0, as it says right on LM's download page.
