er, a bunch of windows with titles a editor does not make. Until I see some levels displayed and other things displayed in each window, I won't believe this is a legit editor :/

This hasn't seen much activity, but I guess it would be good to remind some new SMB3 hackers that I have 2 utilities out for SMB3. A level object TSA editor and card game editor.

http://dahrkdaiz.panicus.org/util/smb3_tsa.rar (tsa editor)

Automatic music that plays on a website = bad. I haven't went to the site yet, but having been on the internet for 6 or so years, I know good and well to stray away from sites that even think about having music playing on them, :/

Those SMAS SMB3 screens you saw were fake, just as Kefka said. I put them up for my own contribution to April Fool's day. It wouldn't be that hard to hack SMAS's SMB3, but I choose to stick with NES because it's control is tighter and I don't want to have to refind all the data (easy, yes, tedious also, though).

Posted on 05-31-04 07:17 AM, in Mega Man 3 Challenge: Cancelled Plus 1 stage Release Link
I guess this is the official announcement that Mega Man 3 Challenge is cancelled, but I still got 1 stage completed to be played for your pleasure. Rather than rant about the hack, I'll just post the read me, since 90% of you probably won't even touch it

http://dahrkdaiz.panicus.org/MM3/UnNamedMM3.rar

There are also 2 bosses in this stage, the shadow Woodman bot and Snakeman, so don't think the stage is over after the first bot fight

The screens shown are beta screens, the final version is similiar, but not 100% the same.

About the hack
-------------------------
This is an officially iced hack of Mega Man 3. The only stages hacked are
Top Man and Snake Man's stages. Top Man's stage is unplayable because I had planned on
redoing it, but lost interest instead.

What's special about this hack?
-------------------------
This hack adds the ability to scroll through weapons via pressing select. The main thing
to show off in this hack is the 4 "layer" parallax scrolling used in the game. This type
of parallax scrolling isn't scanline based (which is what is usually done on NES, which
makes it so that individual stray tiles on the same scanline cannot appear, else they
scroll with the rest of the background. My method allows objects to appear on the same line
and still have the different layers of bg scrolling. Snake Man's stage shows off this
effect throughout the entire level.

How do you report bugs?
------------------------
Don't bother reporting bugs, I REPEAT, DON'T REPORT BUGS. This is a cancelled hack,
thus reporting bugs will do no good but to irritate me after I asked you not to. If you
wish to pick the hack up yourself, go right ahead, just contact me beforehand.

What ROM was this IPS made from?
------------------------
Mega Man 3 (U) [!].nes

Final word
------------------------
I hope you enjoy the gloss of this level, though the design is hardly of Mega Man's calibur
(which is a major reason why I cancelled the hack).

Thanks to:
-----------------------
Proto K - Testing
Bbitmaster - Explanation of some MM3 mechanics, continuous help/support
Matrixz - Explanation of sprite format and recompiling his editor to work with my expanded
rom.
Thaddeus - Suggesting the art style to use to create more depth and compliment my
parallax scrolling.

Wood Man = Mid-stage boss. The entire stage is twice as long. I guess I should have said that. *adds url to original post and fixes it*

I agree with BMF, the status bar needs a major re-coloring. Despite the graphics not being original, they were put together very well and caught my attention. I look forward to playing this one .

I haven't read this essay, but I'll just say this: it seems he uses a lot of Old Testament quotes from the Bible, but we must keep in mind that the Bible was written by humans, NOT God. It's supposedly the word of God, but Qaran(sp) is supposed to be partially the word of God too, so who can you believe? There's extremist in every area of religion and this guy is probably an extreme aethiest (I know quite a few aethiest that are quite timid and tolerable of other relgions). Of course hardly any religiou makes sense, nor does it intend to, that's part of the idea of faith, it's irrational, no doubt about that.

I agree with knuck. Supakat's attitude is basically what's made a lot of non-Christians despise it. The Christian history is particularly interesting in that during the Crusades, when they started to "take back" Muslim inhabitted territories, some areas actually wanted to stay in Muslim territory because the Catholic church was/is very unforgiving for heresy and the Muslims were much more tolerable to not only Christians but all religions. They had to pay a small tax and they could worship whatever they wanted in the privacy of their own home without having papal officials busrting down their door and stripping them of their life's work (and I'm not speaking of a "mis-understood" point of view, this is facts I've read in 2 semesters of Medieval Studies. I've had to read 10 books total on this crap so I am rather well read on the subject). Of course this was the extreme side of Christianity, but there was a LOT of it seeing how most Crusades were self lead by peasants, kings, etc (though the papacy did try to use the Crusades as a way to earn fame, like Innocent the III did). Of course this was long ago but human instincts, emotions and interactions don't change much, they just mold into other forms...

make sure you're switching both the gfx and the object set. The object set is in the pointer properties on the map screen.

I updated my notes and I included this for you Googie:

0x1A3E = What Mario turns into after getting hit while having a power above Super Mario plus 1. That is, 01 = small mario, 02 = super mario, 03 = fire mario, etc. 00 = no change.

Posted on 06-17-04 02:56 AM, in Super Luigi: The Red Coin Quest movies! Link
So that's the official name right now for my current (and probably last) SMB3 hack. Super Luigi: The Red Coin Quest is properly named since each level's main basis is finding the red coin hidden in each level, which is usually revealed after hitting the ! switches.

So what's special about this hack? You already saw what I could do in Mario Adventure, but now I've taken SMB3 in a totally new direction that focuses more on puzzles and exploration. As I said, each level has you searching for the red coin in a level. The main way to reveal it is to find the ! switch, which generates the red coin in it's proper placement, yet, that's not always how you make it appear. I alreayd made a thread a while back about this, but here's a run down of what to expect in this hack:

Brand new graphics
Brand new levels
Brand new objects that add huge amount of depth to the game
Brand new graphical effects never before seen on an Mario NES (and possibly even SNES) game.

You'll see quite a bit of these in the short movies I prepared. To view these, you must have the xVid codec installed. To get it, go
here
. Now that said, each file is roughly 2 to 4 megs big, unfortunately I couldn't make them smaller since I wanted to keep somewhat high quality. I have compressed them with RAR to help make the file smaller.

http://dahrkdaiz.panicus.org/Water.rar ~3.5MB
http://dahrkdaiz.panicus.org/Blocks.rar ~4MB
http://dahrkdaiz.panicus.org/Dungeon.rar ~2.4MB

I'll answer any questions without trying to give too much away. If you thought Mario Adventure was astonishing, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
