Ok, I sent ya both hacks and if neither works, I dunno what to say.

SMB3DX should be much less troublesome. It doesn't do anything deemed illegal on the NES and should work 100% on all emulators and even on the real hardware.

Please don't post such comments in EMULATION. Of course people are going to emulate it if they're here...

Anyways, I think I had a similiar problem, and I think loading the file in it's ZIP file rather than it's unzipped/.gba form did the trick (don't ask why, but it did work). Otherwise, try to change the save type to 128K instead.

Bingo with what Euclid said. Just use the game's controller status bytes instead of messing with the hardware controller status registers. You have to do some funky junk to get what button was held, what button was just pressed and stuff...

Just for reference for SMB3:

$17 = Controller status of buttons being held down.

$18 = Controller status of buttons that have JUST been pressed (resets on every frame).

As far as a I know, NES only has the 2 registers which you must strobe. Though I rememeber reading something about a "half" strobe, but I never did read any more information on what that exactly did or the results of doing it.

Actually, on a bit more study, you'd see that this jump height relative to velocity. The table starts at 0x10658 and ends at 0x1065B. The faster Mario is moving, the farther into the table the game goes into. At max speed, 0x1065B is used. So you can make Mario jump higher and higher depending on speed.

iamhiro: your post has NOTHING to do with the topic of this conversation, and is thus, deemed off topic. Controller press routines and the physics of SMW NES have very little to do with each other. Others who frequent this forum agree that you seemed to make off topic comments and posts like this all the time.

Please remain on topic or say nothing at all, you have been warned.

DDRUK's downloads are currently on hold for some reason, but should be back soon. You can also go to bemanistyle (www.bemanistyle.com) to find some remixes of DDR songs (personal and offical), though it requires registation, but worth it if you have a thing for Max 300 remixes and Paranoia remixes.

You can also find original sound tracks for every arcade DDR release all over the web. They usually run around $25, but you get a more than a handful of songs on each OST.

Actually, DDRUK is working on getting their downloads back up, but there's something that's holding them up.

On their page:

*DDR:UK's shop finally goes online! Products will shortly be appearing

*Downloads will return, currently working on uploading new files to the servers (sorry for the delay!)

*Articles and FAQs section revamped, with new articles on their way

I'd say they had a general server wipe out, as Konami doesn't seem too big on taking down sites hosting DDR related emulation files (and that makes sense, sense each mp3 is copyright to their respected authors, so Konami could take down the .sm or .dwi files, but can't do jack about the mp3's, cept for their Konami originals, of course).

Well the vets don't necessarily need to come by and teach the newbs a trick or two. As you've seen, a lot of newbs who've said they wanted to learn how to hack/ASM hack/etc and got no one to hold their hand have taken the initiative and actually started to learn, and of course, now the vets are starting to help these hackers get better and better.

Some of the few "fresher" faces I've seen are:

Skiffles
Chill Penguin
TheVarian
Jaspile
Rockman

These hackers have been around for a while but are just now really picking up steam. So this summer (when activity usually picks up because there's no school), we should see more activity and possibly some completed hacks. So I think the activity here is just fine here and is a lot higher than it was last year around this time.

Posted on 04-13-05 05:48 PM, in Disable emulator savestates in a hack? Link
I just want to know exactly how it's possible for the game to detect whether a savestate has been loaded or not. The game has no knowledge of the emulator's existance since it's emulating the system, so loading a savestate is like waking up from a coma, nothing ever happened between the time it went down and woke back up, according to the game.

Quite honestly, I'm lgad the ESRB rating is going up. Why?

I don't think video games will influence every child to the point of them wanting to emulate what they see. But ESRB ratings aren't a form of explicity censoring. It's just a rating to infrom parents, so legit adults can still get their gorey, sexy, profane fill in their copy of GTA or Doom 3.

If the ESRB jumps the age up by one year, that's fine with me, as long as I still can get what I want uncensored.
