Wily himself in MM7/MM&Bass/MM8(I think MM8). Hardest, most cheap ass boss in the series, by far.

Originally posted by hhallahh Whoa, hold up there buddy. I came on to the scene about 2 years ago and I started out like everyone else did: nothing. I had no special connections with anyone, no sepcial powers or had already knew ASM. I could have chose to hack SMW, but I chose SMB3, why? Because I love the game, not the choice in editors. I started out doing what every newbie does: playing with the editor and doing what I could, the best that I could. As proof, you can download my first attempt at an SMB3 hack: http://www.geocities.com/dahrkdaiz/v_58.zip That proves I had no exclusive knowledge, I was no better off than anyone else who's hacked SMB3. After I was done with that hack, I scrapped it and saw Acmlm's hack. Did it discourage me? Hell no. It made me think the very same thing Parasyte did: "If Acmlm can do all that with SMB3, imagine what _I_ could do!" I started to play with tools available to me, which were available to everyone else. As time went on, I started to learn ASM and getting better at rom hacking in general. Ask Para, he helped me a few times with specific questions about the NES hardware and ASM (no, he didn't teach me ASM either, he merely answered questions). I started to find data myself using what I have learned. SMB3 hacking community? What SMB3 hacking community? I _AM_ the SMB3 hacking community (I know this is elitist, but everyone knows who to come to for SMB3 questions). It's not exclusive knowledge I have, I share it with everyone. The hacks I did in Mario Adventure are open game for anybody that can decipher the code and understand ASM, and people have done this. Not everyone has what it takes to learn ASM, and that's not due to uber-hackers, that's just do the the fact that rom-hacking isn't a "equal abilities" hobby. In any hobby, you have those that are bad, good and those who excel. As Parasyte said, anyone who's discouraged by the uber-hacks are just out to get attention without working as hard as the people who are doing the uber-hacks themselves. And if so many are discouraged by uber-hackers, why are there so many shitty hacks still? (edited by DahrkDaiz on 06-22-04 08:18 PM) |

You obviously didn't read the first post of this thread. This isn't a "everyone ask for editors here" thread. This is meant to tell people like you that you need to do a little research before asking a question that's been answered over and over and over nad over and over again. Try google, Zophar, DES, CG, or ROMHacking.com. And if you did so, you'd find there's a editor for MM1-5 and one coming to MM7.

That's because the bricks are really coin bricks, thus you cannot collect them when you hit the p-switch (remember, this IS SMB3 still). To beat this stage, you must collect all the coins you can reach without using glitches. Then go back to the giant pyramid. There should be a door that had appeared, if not, then move away from the pyramid and move back to it.

definitely a bug. I could just easily make Luigi stop in his tracks when he grabs the coin, but then, you may happen to kick a shell between 2 objects and get stuck in that area and have it kill you while you're stuck until the bonus time score is recorded |

Well, I could just make all the enemies on the screen go "poof". Thanks for the suggestion everyone!

I'm pretty sure the SNES could rescale/stretch/shrink sprites already (it's done in SMW without the FX chip). I thought the chip was used to produce the polygonal platforms used in the game. And really the ground pound doesn't seem like it's borrowed from SMW imo, since Mario didn't do it (Yoshi did, thus, he retains it later on in teh game). The ground pound seemed like a logical move to make platforming easier to do (a sort of "air break" system).

having looked that the M3I source, I will garuntee it would be easier to start from scratch than convert m3i (which uses allegro, btw) to a decent windows port. The source is just very hard to follow.

that's what I've said over and over, it blatantly tells you what the password is. I've had many foreigners figure out the password with no problems just by reading the readme. It's not a riddle, when you find it, it says "this is the password".

Thanks guys! Just remember: this is only the first demo. It took a 3 months of production to even start to overhaul the SMB3 engine in Mario Adventure, and as you noticed, a lot of the good stuff was implemented late in the hack and wasn't utilized a much at all. Already, this hack has overhauled the original engine and there's SO much more to add to the hack (you guys don't even know how you'll get to the next world yet ). It may not outshine Mario Adventure yet, but give it a few more months and it'll put that crappy hack to shame

Well didn't you just find what you were looking for? It's not the editor's fault you can't make good music in SMB. Porting songs from 1 game to another is next to impossible unless you're very fluent in how the NES's APU works.

What some frozen coin blocks? Then you can use this small 3 byte hack so that you can use them anywhere in the game in your hack! Just change the following bytes: 0xE55E Change to 00 0xE56E Change to 7F 0x1CB2A Change to 7F This will make it so that the green noteblock object now draws frozen coin blocks instead. You'll have to make your own gfx for the blocks in each object set and use my SMB3 TSA editor and modify block #7F so that the frozen coin blocks look right . (note, the ice block object in the ice object set will no longer work! use the green noteblock to draw them now.)
