It is all taken care of by the installer. Once it's finished, you won't need to reboot or anything, just fire up any .net program.

Ok, this is pretty cool.
These two memcopy commands will start your characters out completely black, and then slowly fade them into color. I currently have these in my character startup/idle right after loading my sprites. Try it out.

Here is the black sprites:

And here is them seconds later after a nice fade in:

Of course, you can split these two up if you want them to stay dark while something goes on, and then fade them in afterwards.

You need the Memcpy command in the startup area of your Startup/Idle section. Anything after the Return command in Startup/Idle is considered Idle. You need a Goto command after that Return, and have the label be the same as the Memcopy.

Some sprites look better than others, of course.

Your labels will be different than my own, so make sure your labels and Goto's match up, and not match up with those of my screenshot.

-edit-
Actually, after fiddling with that Memcpy for a bit, it appears that the data is just an entire palette, effectively giving you the chance to make a palette and apply it through event code. Cool.

The only editors I am aware of that edit FFV is Final Fantasy 5 Multi Editor, made by JCE3000GT.

Download it at his site:
http://www.blitzkrieg.finalconquest.net/

And some documents and the like are available at Collapse of Heaven and Earth:
http://www.tenchinohoukai.greatnow.com/FF5.html

As for that someone, perhaps it could be you?

Since you mentioned event data, I remember I archived an old post by Jigglysaint.

-------------------
Here's what I've found so far:

8408D - location of a 3 byte pointer used for 2 treasure chests in Tycoon castle that contain cabins, and can be stolen by Lone Wolf(in a secret passage in the right tower). They arn't real treasure chests, but rather events. The pointer 0A 4C C9 leads to:

94E0A - event data for the 2 lonewolfable chests containing cabins in Tycoon castle. Each event, which is a variable length, is made of 3 byte event code, and 2 byte effect data. It's not fully cracked, but the format seems easy enough. There are effect codes that add and take away items, magic, display messages, do whatever. I've also managed to enter the sunken Worus tower before going into the tower for the first time, and Galuf doesn't have any mimic sprites.

113410 - start of the treasure chest data. There are 4 bytes, the first 2 are the location of the chest, and the last 2 tell you what's inside. The third byte can be set to either give money, magic, items, or items or magic with a monster inside.

If you are editing a location, make sure to go to the menu item Write to Memory, and after that, click save.
If editing Events, click the Write Mem. button, and then go to save.

If you are editing Location maps, it is located in the menu (make sure your location window is in front). Click save after you write to memory (Save is under the File menu).

If you are editing event data (click the blue 'event' caption) then the Write Mem. button will do the job. Click save after you write to memory (Save is under the File menu).

As a shortcut for Write to Memory, on your keyboard hit Ctrl+S.
As a shortcut for Save, on your keyboard hit Ctrl+Shift+S.

This is a pretty neat trick.
Random enemies!

I make use of the Random Number generator and have some comparison commands decide which monster gets loaded into the scene. In this example, I have 2 monsters, Gato, and MasaMune. Only one of them will load, based on the random number written to memory. Walk into Gato's Exhibit and Gato may be there, but the next time, maybe MasaMune will be there waiting.

I do have a question on this, I couldn't get this to work for the longest time, but then I opened up Geiger's Debugger and noticed that the Random Number was writing to the wrong spot in memory, so that's why my checks are checking a different byte than what the Random Number command says it's writing to. Is there a reason for this, perhaps that's just how it works?

Either way, I think this Random Number command and Compare commands could lead to some interesting event scenes.

OS is Operating System. Are you using Windows XP, Windows 98, etc...

There are better editors out there anyway, Blitzkrieg made one called Chrono Trigger Hacking Companion, but I am unsure of the link right this minute (if it's even online anymore).

I mailed you an IPS patch of it.
I wonder if it would be possible to hack that command to have it write a random number to anywhere in memory, and not restricted to 7F0200 and up? There seemed to be plenty of random looking numbers being generated beneath that address, but the compare values are also limited in their reach. Heh...surprise the player with random stats... "surprise, you start back at level 1 with 10 HP.."

..wait... now I know why the limits are there..

Indeed, it's a compression format that Lunar Compress does not do, which I find quite surprising. (At least that's what I keep hearing, I haven't tried it myself yet.)

And to the fucktard that called Kefka "jerkified," (clearly Engrish is your best language): It is not wise to insult those that would initially try to help you. But now that you are bringing the "holier than thou" attitude to the table, you basically signed your own death warrant. Not many are willing to help you after your little spaz attacks. I tried, but now I won't. You are on your own.

Geiger's Sprite Viewer can decompress and recompress these graphics (and Chrono Triggers as well). It does not edit them, so you will need a graphics editor as well, I suggest Tile Molester.

http://www.zophar.net/utilities/graphutil.html

You need to download the one named "Peer Sprite Viewer"

That's about it, dude.
You can do it the 'hard' way and edit text using a table file and a hex editor.

http://www.zophar.net/utilities/hexutil.html
Choose one with table file support, I use none of these, so suggestions will have to come from someone else.

Table files can be found here:
http://www.snakeyes.org/tbl/

I've had problems with a few of their table files in the past, and had to make my own. If you have to make one yourself, don't fret, it's not all that hard.

You could have replied in your other FFVI thread though instead of making a new one.

Hey Zeality!

*nudge nudge*

Your problem with the text, Bandeau's scene, can be fixed by changing your StringIndex to F84650. Your only problem was an incorrect StringIndex, nothing more.

YES!

I don't feel so bad now.

I wonder if I could change my birthday in my profile, and have a birthday everyday?

You too, eh?
First thing this morning, I discover that someone stole my wallet. Yup, SS card, picture ID, all that good stuff, gone. Then I hurt myself at work, and apparently I need surgery to correct a hernia of some sort (I fear hospitals ). I spent all day getting a new Birth Certificate (which burned up ages ago) just to get a new ID card to show the hospital tommorow. Getting the ID at the local licence branch took hours, and the vile 'women' decided that they would rather consume someone's soul violently from their bodies before even considering being nice to someone.

I've changed my mind about having a birthday everyday.

The best answer to a question like this is "Try them all".
Us telling you which one we think is the best, when you may well enjoy another far more is something that just might happen.

Download them all, try them all, and then formulate an opinion.

FCEUXD is very nice, but I use Virtuanes quite a bit more for reasons I can't quite fathom. Not because someone told me to, but I tried them all, and this one has become 'the best' for me.

That sounds like fun actually, maybe later I'll drink drink untill I pass out.

The last thing I need though is my surgeon cutting me open tommorow, getting drunk from the fumes that would seep out, and....

well....
