Here is a VERY old listing of the compressed graphics I made.
Some things may be mislabeled or slightly wrong, and this list was made using a headered ROM, so be sure to subtract the header from these offsets when compressing and decompressing.
It's nowhere near complete or accurate, but it should help somewhat.

I also have something like this for the PreRelease version of the ROM, so if anyone wants that list posted as well, let me know.

Koopa the Quick: 405C62(02) - Act Number
Koopa the Quick: 405C62(62) - Act Number

I used that to make this image.

Nice find.
The ROM I'm using is
Super Mario 64 (U) [!].v64
8.00 MB (8,388,608 bytes).

The address you gave is one byte off for me. I'm getting offset 405C63 (with a value of 02).

Byte 1:
Byte 2:
Byte 3:
Byte 4:
Byte 5:
Byte 6: Image Modifier
Byte 7: Act # Appearance
Byte 8:
Byte 9:
Byte 10:
Byte 11:
Byte 12:

405C75 is the star point where the star appears once you collect the red coins. It's image property is 00 (nothing) but it was easy to find knowing that byte 6 is the image property.

Setting Byte 6 to the turtle and byte 7 to 1 should make filling out this list a bit easier (maybe I'll write a quick little utility to help out).

Thanks for the sig image BGNG, it's very nicely done.
I uploaded it to my own photobucket account so as not to leach off of yours.

I don't think anyone is hacking that game right now.
The only thing I know of right now is a re-texturing project for the game, and that's pretty much it.

No, there are NO tools, NO editors and NO hacks of this game ANYWHERE at this time. I even searched Google (like you did before you posted.... right?) and came up with nothing.

Bookmark these following sites and check them whenever you have a question like this, and check all the threads on this board (down at the bottom of this forum, you will see numbers 1 - 25, those are backpages of this ROM Hacking forum, make sure to check those). AND DON'T POST IN THEM OR FACE DIRE CONSEQUENCES!!! If you find nothing after doing all of that, then one probably doesn't exist yet.

Sure, help out with the list I'm starting to compile.
Were looking to build a list of 0 - 255 (in hex) of what each value is for each object's image.
Go to the offset 405B9E and change that byte and save and write down what it becomes in the game.
This byte changes the image of the first red bob-omb you come across in act 1 of level 1 (you start right next to it).
I've made a savestate right before the begining of the level to make it easier.

Here is my wip list:

64 - Pirahna Plant
65 - Chain Chomp chain link
66 - Chain Chomp
67 - Stone Boss
68 - koopa turtle

Very cool release.

ROMS that don't match up and shouldn't be used:
Super Mario 64 (E) (M3) [!].v64
Super Mario 64 - Shindou Edition (J) [!].v64
Super Mario 64 (J) [!].v64

There may be more, this is all I could get my hands on though for testing at the moment.

Awsome editor, even if it is still partial. Why not next have the object data you read try to get images for whatever is known, and display them next? Chickenlump and I are getting those values, so, yeah. That's my idea.

Untill someone comes along and can decode these objects and display them in the levels, we get to make screenshots of each and every visible object, once the list is completed.
There are plug-ins that dump all the textures to files that may help with the flat objects (might look better than screenshots).

Thanks, it works great!

It's amazing how much fun just messing with these objects alone can be...
My first level has about 5 Bomb Bosses right now...heh heh

I wonder how the star knows how to go to the top of the mountain when you defeat the boss (I have one of him at the start of the level and the star shoots to the mountain top..).

The clicking still doesn't work (to select objects, I meant the releasing of the file, sorry *kicks self*)

I'll see if I can get them closer together to put them in the same scene.

Just so that others understand: the editor is still useable even with those shortcomings.

The releasing files works fine, it was the clicking to select objects that didn't work, sorry for the confusion. Like you said though, this tool is completely useable and stable other than that.

I'ma gonna check out those OC and 08 objects tonight and lay the smack down on them.
I'd invite you over to my 4th of July Chicken Wing bonanza if you lived...closer...

There is most likely another area in the ROM that has the coins and regular enemies defined within it. The regular Koopa is probably in this batch of objects though, I turned one of the Red Bob-ombs into it (the red bobomb tried to escape, but I jumped on it and it turned into a shelless koopa and it's shell) but It's a bit different than other enemies I assume, it pushed me back when I bumped into it, but it took no life from me.

Victory is mine!
Ok, well, maybe not, but I did manage to edit yellow coins, red coins and trees.

Change offset 405722 and change it to 01 and you get a coin in the place in the picture.

Change offset 405726 to 01 and the coin goes up a bit more.

Change offset 40568F to 08 to raise the red coin on the Chain Chomp's log higher into the air.

And now for trees! Change offset 4055C7 to 06.

Cool beans

I'll see what I can do, hopefully I'll have something by tonight, early tommorow.
A little before this data seemed to create a bunch of invisible solid spots in the level that Mario could not pass through, so I should be able to find where it starts.

You would have much better luck if this thread were posted in the Super Mario World Hacking forum. People there have been hacking that game for years and would surely be able to help you out.

Ok, the first coin picture wasn't originally a coin, I changed it's type byte!
Change offset 405725 and change the 3rd sign you see.

A few funny changes (the little one is so cute!)
3D - Giant Goomba
3E - Baby Goomba

Every object I turn this sign into gets that object's properties, so the goombas can be squished and jumped on, they will chase after you, etc...

Well, enemies do seem to be grouped together as one object...

Change 405725 to 40 and a group of about 5 goombas will be there (I wasn't expecting it, all 5 saw me at once and bum-rushed me )

Thankfully, the coins are also single object formations (imagine trying to place single coins into patterns like this by hand O_o)

Remember, different objects have different draw distances, so you may need to run up on them for them to be visible (some objects are visible only close up, and some from far away)

The glitched items that use the wrong polygons are actual objects, they are just reading from the wrong file I'm assuming, they are level specific or something in the level header tells the level what object set to use or something.

Alot of the Not Visible values I gave instead made a star appear next to where the star appears when you collect all the red coins. O_o I mistook them for not being visible, but apparently some values arent accepted and the previous object uses the object I was editing's values as it's own... (that makes sense in my mind...honest...

An interesting note about the trees, the tree is one object, and the shadow on the ground for the tree is it's own object (just placed where the trees are).

Every yellow coin value I wrote down, I ran and collected. I didn't notice anything odd about them though.
