There is no tool to take the graphics from another megaman game and insert them directly into Megaman 1. I'm afraid you will have to do it all by hand, as each game is different, the graphics are in different places, and the later games use more graphics than 1 did.

I've never come across any IE specific hacks or tweaks to make it faster (other than disabling Active X and other security options). If you insist on using IE, then the tweaks on the following page may help somewhat. Not all of these tweaks affect just IE though, so be carefull, as with all registry edits. Hope this helps some.

It is a Japanese ROM, but it is a very strange rom, with glitches (textual mostly, I don't know how to describe it.. ).

Rather than rip the ROM from the CD or play the PSX version, why not just download (from some other site, no asking here ) the version you want to play and emulate it with your emulator of choice? Are you new to emulation?

When all else fails, you can always save state in ZSNES and grab the graphics from that saved state.

There are several front-end utilities for NES emulators that do all that and more, so building it into the emulator would be kind of counter productive for him, unless he decides that the front-ends aren't good enough.

Here is an example front end that is small and simple:
http://fec.emulationworld.com/nestea/

And here is one that is large and complex:
http://www.bu22.com/

More can be found:
http://www.zophar.net/frontends/nes.html
http://www.zophar.net/frontends/universal.html

Looking through all these now has me wanting to compile a complete NES snapshot archive...

Oooohhh...a few things just clicked inside my musty brain, and now I've gone and made my first Game Genie code! (woohoo...yeah, I know, I'm a sad chicken )

Game: Moon Crystal (I'm using the english translation, it's a great game!)

GANAAPLA - Start with 4 hearts (it shows 3 though, I'm working on that part now)
You can change the value of it to go higher, to take more hits, but don't go too high!

XTEXYUVK - Infinite Life

VVNXASSV - Infinite Lives

Posted on 01-12-05 02:37 AM, in Preview: Mario - Race Against Time Link
Your graphics hacking abilities have really improved lately, everything looks fairly easy on the eyes, and I'm really digging the dark blue Mario look. I love the time gimmick to the hack as well, a non impossible level challenge hack is something really rare. I mean, the only challenge to some Mario hacks is devious level designs (not a terrible thing, but it gets old after awhile), and it's refreshing to see another NEW type of challenge for players to face, not just the levels, insane jumps, or amount of enemies. Great job, even if for the idea alone.

Posted on 01-16-05 09:18 AM, in Super Mario 64 DS Link
I bought a Nintendo DS and Mario 64 DS today. I am really impressed by it!
Everything I remember fromt he N64 version is here, and ALOT more. The graphics are better (it's noticeable even on the small screen), the mini games are a fun little diversion, and I love being able to play as the other characters. The drawing aspect of the game (where you can distort Mario and Yoshi's head) really impressed me, and I spent a few hours just drawing and playing with that.

The sound effect for killing Goombas has a nicer more satisfying feel to it, and the flower power abilities are kind of quirky and humorous (heh...baloon mario reminds me of the first scene in the Harry Potter 3 movie, Aunt Marge just floating away, and bouncing off walls...).

The second screen, I find to be really usefull with the arrows for camera movement, just a quick tap of my thumbs to rotate it to my liking. I don't use the screen to actually move the characters, I prefer using the D-Pad, which controls just fine for me, pulling off any and all moves easily.

The only thing I don't like about the game, and it's a small thing really, is that they went and re-did Peach's opening letter. The voice of the princess just doesn't sound as good, or as solid as the N64 version did. The new voice actress (or if it's the same one) sounds stiff and uninspired.

Hacking the editor through a hex editor?
Not only do I not think you will get permission to do this (at least as far as releasing a hacked version), but doing such a thing would require more work than actually coding support for it anyway. Good luck with that.

(unless, of course, I've mistaken your meaning..heh..)

I still can't understand peoples hate towards runtime files, like VB runtimes and .NET runtimes. Download them all once, back them up on CD, install them and forget about them. It's not like EVERY program requires you to re-download if you don't already have them.

Besides, some of my favorite programmers program in .NET, so the death of it would mean the death of some really awesome apps.

Rather than wish up a list of things other people can do to make me happy, my wishlist is a bit less conceited.

My wishlist for 2005, for me.

1. Learn the basics of ASM for NES and/or SNES
2. Be more helpful to others and less awkward in general
3. Find the time and money to donate to some of my favorite programmers and the like for their continued and awesome work. Perhaps "Thanks!" gets kind of hollow after awhile.

If I had to wish for something that I couldn't do or make for myself...

More gameboy hacks and utilities. I love gameboy games.

The tounge could be replaced by a grappling hook, the fire could come from mounted Flame thrower type guns or something.

Maybe a scooter would be more appropriate for the speed aspect of yoshi, unless somehow you could change yoshi's speed in the game somehow...

Posted on 01-23-05 06:55 AM, in Has anyone ever made a good FF5 hack that puts enough new stuff in the game to warrant replay? Link
I don't recall seeing any hacks for FF5, though that doesn't mean that they don't exist.

If you want to give it a try (or anyone for that matter):

http://www.blitzkrieg.finalconquest.net/ - Blitzkrieg's FF5 Multi Editor

http://www.geocities.com/chickenlump/FinalFantasyV.zip - All offsets and information I have on the FF5 ROM (gathered from various places on the net)

http://www.tenchinohoukai.greatnow.com/FF5.html - Collaps of Heaven and Earth - FF5 ROM Info

http://www.zophar.net/trans/tables/sfc/ff5.zip - Zophar.net's FF5 Table File

I'm sure there's more resources, but this should be enough for any aspiring FF5 hackers to get started with.

Anyway, my Rom Hacking wish list is to have colorized versions of mario land 1-3. I know there is a gb colorizer, but it only gives you 4 shades of color. I think from there you would have to do some asm or something and recolor each tile. Pretty time consuming I imagine.

I remember about a year or two ago seeing shots of someone's pet project that was SML1 with 16 bit graphics. Can't remember too much else about it, and I don't know what happened with it, but it looked really cool.

That would be Weasel, and I don't think he had actually planned on making it a rom hack, but I could be wrong. His mock up screens looked pretty darn impressive though.

With what exactly do you have issues?
Everything is layed out exactly as I'd expect it to be layed out.
Personally, I've had no problems using his documents to create my own editors, manually hex edit anything and everything (all the information is there, starting offset, ending offset, compressed or not, etc..).

What exactly would you change about them?

Congrats, you are the first (to my knowledge) to have beaten them.
Even *I* couldn't beat them!
This was just meant to be a small Boss Battle hack, and am glad a few people gave it a go.
I may update this one, and add in Alfador to make it a foursome (here kitty kitty) and tweak everyone to be more fair, and a bit more challenging. Maybe in a few weeks.

I reccomend Tile Molester. It has become my graphics editor of choice.

Here's a small thread about it (it was updated recently) over at TEK.
http://tekhacks.net/board/thread.php?id=294&page=0

Also, as a secondary choice, i use TilEd 2002, just because it's fairly easy to use (but not as powerful as Tile Molester). Try them out.

Very nice job, very clean and uncluttered. It's kind of nice to other people coming out with editors for my favorite game.
I'll be making heavy use of this.

Strangely enough...I wasn't wearing any pants at the time either ....
