It's so easy, it hurts. Offsets are locations within the file.
Every hex editor ever made (ever) has an option to jump to, or go to address.
There you type in the address or paste it in.

http://www.romhacking.com/docs/general/misc/HexLesson.zip

http://zophar.net/tech/files/hexhack.doc

If you download these, and read all the way through them, you will know the basics of hex editing. If you read these, and experiment a little, it should all become clear. EASILY.
If it doesnt (even after experimentation) then perhaps romhacking isn't for you. Or you can just be one of 'those' romhackers that rely on people's editors. Editors are ok, but there is no replacing a hex editor for any good romhacker.

Don't lay waste to perfectly good katana blade, or girl.
The answer is so obviouse.
Boy likes grass hopper.
Boy bottles dead grass hopper.
Grass hopper is in peices.
Boy fries up grass hopper peices and eats.
Boy and grass hopper become one. (at least untill next bowl movement... )

There is Beauty in Simplicity, and you have pulled that off well. The graphics aren't complex, but colorful, fitting, and really well done. Keep going on the path your on.

Posted on 03-22-04 10:32 PM, in Deleting bytes with VB6 Link
I am curious if it's possible to delete bytes from a file with Visual Basic 6.
I was hoping someone here could help me.
I was just going to code a small tool for myself to delete the snes header off of the Rom, which I belive is the first 200 bytes.
Someone mentioned that I could start reading the file from that offset, and dump to another file, and just rename it, but I'm not sure how to go about that just yet. Or, if there's an easier way that would be cool too.
I know there's tools already available to delete the header, but I wouldn't learn anything in the process, and it would be more convinent to just have it built in to my little app.

Thanks for any replies.

There were quite a few Pokemon threads on the older board.
Perhaps a Pokemon board could be added, but not be rom-hack specific, it could encompass all Pokemon chatter (including rom hacking). That way, if Poke-hacking goes downhill like Zelda did, there would still be the regular Poke-chatters, and it wouldn't be a ghost board.

Thanks for releasing this. The MFC download was definitly worth it, as everything is conveniently in the menus.
I've found no problems so far, and can just see me getting no sleep again tonight (work or no work).

I'd say finish this one. But, if you decide to dump this one also, after all the threads and posts about the both of them, THEN I'd vote for quit hacking completly. Or at least try your hand at hacking a game that can keep you more interested. Good luck with it, and remember, the best hacks don't focus on the best graphics evar, or out-of-everyone's reach asm hacks. Stick with what your good at, and don't give up.

Thank you both so much!
All this is very interesting.
Since I'm in a learning mood lately, I'll be pesky and ask...
What do you mean by "Cant's assign to an array"?

I can't seem to find the page with the millions of docs of offsets and findings on Starmen about Earthbound. Is it still there Blue Antoid? Or am I remembering something from another site...

From what I remember of them, the music was just about the only thing I didn't see listed in detail.
I hope someone can help you, music hacking seems to be the bane of many a rom hacker.

Eventually, I'll make a layout of some sort.
Chrono Trigger themed of course.

For 5 years my avatar has been a General Leo sprite (Final Fantasy 3/6).
And a darn good avatar he's been to me. I constantly tweaked him, added flames and colors, and what-not.

Since I've been in a Chrono Trigger mood these last few months , I thought I'd create a new one from that game. So, A screen capture, Paintshop Pro, and about 15 minutes gave me my Nu, kind of floating in the middle of a Time Vortex (or whatever you think it is he's floating in )

Your use of transparencies is very nice, and a cool utility it would be to have. Especially if you need a reply to something by someone in particular. Or your stalking them. It's all good.

I have yet to meet anyone that "Lives life to the fullest"
I suppose it means do as much as possible at all times, all the time.
Sounds like a lot of work to me though.
I do what I want, when I want, or when I can, not just because I "should". If I feel like relaxing at home and snoozing away an afternoon, then I will. For me, that's living life to it's fullest. Living MY life to it's fullest.

-----edit------

Now that I think about it, all these threads with
"Serious Only"
"No Crap"
etc.
etc

Are getting rather annoying. People usually do stay on topic, and if they do happen to wander off slightly, it's no biggy. Hopefully this is the last thread like this.

I'm almost positive that you can create another account on your computer, and install lightstep on that one user account, and the other user accounts remain unchanged.

Of course, incase I'm wrong about that, make a restore point anyway.

I used to be addicted to Coke (the drink). But after I moved out of my parent's house, I stopped drinking Coke, and lost serious weight. I used to weigh 250 lbs, and now I weigh 160.
I eat the same, and I do virtually no excersise. My conclusion.....too many soda's make you fat.

(this doesn't seem to apply to Mt. Dew for some reason, everyone I know that drinks that is skinny and wirey...)
