No developer in his right mind actually -draws- (or renders, in DKC's case) the graphics directly in the target platform's format. They use some well-known bitmap format or even PhotoShop PSD files and mass-convert them into the right console format.

It's that obvious.

As for palette expansion, if you mean using more than 16 colors per sprite, fuck no.

Also, guess what I did... yes, I recolored the sky in the intro movie and made the background in Birch/Oak's speech greenish instead of yellow.

Then, at the location specified, put the movements, end with a trailing 0xFE byte. For the actual bytes, check the trap in, for example, Verdanturf.

Yes. People and levelscripts can ALSO do ApplyMovement. As for moving the player, use 0x0000 or 0xFFFF, can't remember...

Let alone spanish support. To think it's really very easy.

Open PokeRoms.INI in Notepad, write down all required offsets, open the -american- version of your game in a hex editor, go to these offsets and write down the first sixteen or so bytes. Now open up your spanish rom and search for these bytes. Write new entries for the spanish rom in PokeRoms.INI. Get laughed at for totally screwing PokeRoms.INI in the process.

There's a MAME version that does that. Plays your own files instead of the game's usual BGM.

In fact, normal MAME does it for games with weird sound hardware: play waves as needed.

And then there's the Highscore system, saving whole chunks of memory that have been recorded as being the hiscore table to file...
