Posted on 10-25-04 08:15 AM, in Translating a Japanese game.. Link
You should run a search on that type of work as it's quickly becoming common knowledge how to do it. Generally what I think it involves is first finding out the formatting for the text, and then find lal the text in the game. Dump it to a file programmatically, and begin translating. You need to make sure that the Japanese font, i.e. the tiles that the Japanese characters use are changed to English tiles. Some japanese games will already include the English (roman) alphabet but I wouldn't count on it.

Some consideration has to be given to vwf, that is, variable width fonts. Some characters obviously look better with a smaller width in English. Like, W vs. i here. Do you really want i to take up as much space as W? Remember that Japanese characters generally take up the same amount of space, as though they were part of a square grid. Thus, vwf is something you might have to hack in 1. Because it saves screen space, 2. Because it looks better.

Burn the fucker down, at least you're getting in trouble with the police on purpose at that point.

Well, the rules of this forum include no personal attacks, please follow them or I will insure that you will not be welcome in this segment of the board. And I just posted a little fact that I found interesting.

Maybe it was a bit of an adhominem attack, but look at what you posted. Granted it is interesting, but is it true? You didnt' mention where you did the research, and such it looks like crazy talk to me. All I was pointing out is that the way you wrote that - i.e. making a seemingly outlandish claim with no support, tends to cause me to view you with less credibility.

The comment was also only vaguely on topic. Were you implying that just because candidates are distantly related that they are on the same agenda? Or that we are unknowingly voting for Jewish candidates who aren't religiously Jewish? (And thus why would I even be worried, were I to be paranoid about such things.)

Stink Bomb in classroom. The smell is so bad the class has to be evacuated. He had a small Stink Bomb racket going on at his old school, even after he left.

Oh one of those... garrr I always wanted to inflict pain upon those people. Not my fault I'm a good student. Shooting the teacher with a tranq gun would be far less collateral damage.

Be suspicious period. If you can buy off lots of reviewers with , say, $50,000 or so, and you can make $1,000,000 instead of $200,000, who wouldn't pay people off. I don't trust reviewers usually. If I'm going to buy a game i first go on Gamefaqs or some other site with ratings, and I find the lowest ratings possible. Chances are if they found the game that annoying, I might notice the same things.

Edit: What I meant was I'd go read their reviews and see what they found to be a problem with the game.

Heh heh. Well in that case I'd prefer it if those people would train themselves to shit their pants in class during the test. Honestly, who's going to make a student finish a test when he shat himself?

Posted on 10-25-04 11:42 AM, in Thread bumping Link
I dunno, if a newb is bumping a shitload of old threads just to be a little shit, I see the rationale in disciplining the person. But in my view you're just wasting your time closing the old threads. Part of the reason a thread goes down the list is that people lose interest in it. That, as opposed to something like the gamefaqs petitions forum, where your topic literally has to be bumped to stay alive and be heard.

It's really true here that people only tend to look at the first few threads for their posting pleasure. Most of the time I only look at the first one, and maybe the next few sometimes. If someone bumps one thread, it will likely just continue to move down the list as before, so I don't see why you should make a big deal out of it. Any halfway intelligent person will eventually figure out that bumped threads are essentially dead, and will usually yield a small, short burst of activity, if that.

I think the attitude toward's bumping here is formed on the basis that people like to look at something new most of the time. I hate this board when the same threads tend to stagnate in General discussion or Craziness domain. It's all about entertainment value.

Posted on 10-25-04 12:42 PM, in In the USA, should the electoral college be abolished? Link
Well that part about the voter turnout may be true, but it is not under control by the system. It is not a constraint that the government can tweak, only voters can decide how much their vote is worth, relative to another state, by voting as much as possible. Your vote has a potential value commesurate with the number of electoral votes it has the possibility of winning. How much actual value you assign it is a matter of perspective. There are nonvoters who think it has no value whatsover b/c they think the system is corrupt, it won't make a difference, it's all the same Dem or GOP, etc.

What would you do if there was a way to upload your mind into a computer? You wouldn't have a body, but you would exist indefinitely as a mind in a computer.

What do you think would happen? Like, your sense of time and space, of death even would probably change, right? Does this sound too Mad Scientist-esque cuz i hope it does.

Personally, I would spend my time solving math problems and figuring out ways to rule the universe through a conglomeration of automated military force. But I'd be sneaky about it until I got total control. .
