IMO.... it seems people think rom hacking will be somewhat easy at first. Then they either lose inspiration or are dogged by how much they will have to learn to make what they want. I feel it is the same reason like 80+ million people say they want to get into game creation, but never do. It sounds cool, but it's in reality a lot of work and it's also hard to get started doing it when you have no idea how, let alone the resources to do it. As for hacks not holding your attention... I find that hacks are usually just that. I'd rather play a hack that feels like a new game than a "remix" of the original, where you're playing with the same old bag of tricks but just in a different order and usually much more difficult for no reason at all. Personally I got into romhacking b/c I thought I could improve games and create new things, rather than slightly modify them.

SonicandTails didn't really flame you outright... but I see how you could feel that way. However, this thread is pointless, as is any other thread about "well wouldn't that be a good idea for a hack?" Don't post a thread about it... do it!

Or we break into Big N in Japan and just steal all these games and all the prototypes/betas they ever made . |

If the game uses SBC, then there may also be a CLC present before the SBC, to ensure that the current contents of the carry flag don't disrupt the intended behavior of the subtraction. This is an important but nitpicky correction. On a 6502 or 65816 processor, you'll want to do SEC SBC (arguments) Because of the way SBC ( = Subtract with Carry) works you have to set the carry flag first to get a pure subtractions, sometimes called SUB

| Kei, I don't know you that well... but I thought you had more sense than to go about getting unbanned in such a ridiculous fashion. Hell I was extremely surprised when you got banned in the first place, and still don't really know what happened. You'd be better off sorting this out with Danielle and other staff via PMs, not making an ass* of yourself in the public arena *intentional or not, getting unbanned is an uphill battle when your attitude looks like shit. | Well I tried... to talk some sense into you. Enjoy your continued ban and immature behavior. Drama is not fun, it makes the board look like shit. |

So who can't count? Someone pointed me to an article while I was on IRC, about how people in certain amazon tribes have difficulty counting higher than three or four. Those people can't count. :/

well... if you don't like that program you could try Tile Layer Pro. Make sure you're viewing the tiles in the correct format, of course. I'm guessing they would be in 2bpp or the NES format on the list. Viewing tiles at the wrong offsets can make them look garbled as well, but if you're at the right place in the rom, it should roughly resemble the tiles you're looking for.

Myself, acting interested will get you farther than acting uninterested. Maybe i'm just a straightforward type of person. I mean, don't be a slut or anything [not that you would] b/c 1. some guys are really turned off by that... if you're like that around him, he thinks how are you around other guys? 2. if he turns out to be a dickwad he'll just try to use you. Next, you may not even turn out to like him. So be careful what you get yourself into. I'd test the waters by just chatting with him a few times. What about? Just shoot the breeze. If your casual conversation doesn't interest him, you'll be able to tell. I mean there's a billion things to talk about, but it sounds like you don't know him very well, even though he's been your neighbor for seven years. Isn't it kind of awkward trying to get to know someone you've seen for so long but never bothered talking to much? I'd suggest just chilling outside or with some friends outside and if you see him say hi to him. Most guys if they've got any brains will come over and see what the fuss is about, or just to be neighborly.

Um, this may seem like an obvious question... but why don't you just host it off of your chrono compendium? O_o However, if extra hosting is a concern, Tek seems to be doing it on some level, and you can also ask around. I'm sure there's someone here willing to do it in a pinch. Dchakros (sp?) seems to do hosting of hacks. I'd steer away from Zophar's domain, myself. Not sure what the future of that site is at this time.

If you ever use Python, Python's actual site has tutorials on how to use them that are pretty decent. I think all you need to use them in those scripts http://www.python.org/doc/1.5.2p2/lib/module-regex.html Just another reference if you end up needing one. Watch out though, regex (shorthand for regular expressions) tend to have different standards depending on who developed them. I think Microsoft has some unusual ones in its Microsoft office regex scheme.

so... um what's the point of this thread supernova? Just do it and move on. Watch out in pascal b/c the assignment operator is := rather than just =. I think that's actually a good thing b/c it forces you to not think in terms of equals, it makes you think of it as assignment.

Um... well I can think of a few things that look funny to me based on my experience. GSD logs a DMA transfer to CGRAM of 4096 ($1000) bytes. And CGRAM is only $200 bytes long if I remember correctly. The transfer is incrementing... but you then have a DMA transfer from only $20 bytes offset from that... I don't understand that at all. i.e. $28000 -> CGRAM $1000 bytes (abridged) $28020 -> VRAM address $0C00, which if you view in GSD is actually $1800, but whatever. Next, you have no data uploaded to your TA, or tile address. So you have no characters in memory to even build a tile map with. Well... unless of course you wanted it misaligned by $800 bytes. The what's used profile in GSD says your TA is at $1000 and your BA (base address) is at $400. Again those are VRAM addresses so you just shift them left once to ge the byte address. So... if you want more help I think you'll have to describe exactly what you were trying to do. I don't feel like wading through all your asm files to "guess" what your problem is. ![]()

Heh I'm sure you'll learn in time Snika that there are assholes and there are nice people. Sometimes nice people act like assholes and vice versa. Just learn to get used to it and try not to get upset over how people view you or react to you. Chances are she was in a bad mood, or was trying to concentrate on something and you distracted her. Wait till you get a job... oh boy.
