 I was going to recommend the diagnostic suite, but I've been beaten to it I suffer from "hard drive paranoia" due to experiences with my hard drives (ones that developed the "ping of death" ones that partitioned *itself* into 100 partitions and became unbootable, etc) so I'd at the least be running a diagnostic and looking into a replacment.

Of course, it doesn't matter if one gets a patch out quicker than the other if people forget to apply the patch, of course. And there's still a LOT of people out there who don't patch, or don't even know what a "patch" is... I know of a few -- at work I provide tech support for a few tens of thousands of people who don't know their arse from their start menu...

I've had support calls recently complaining of slow internet. The slowest recorded was 4kbps, but that was when we were able to get a reading... it did get so slow we couldn't clock it, but they could still "sort of" do things... (from our end we thought it was down entirely). Same happened with my building too, we got slowness so severe that EDS (who manage the infrastructure) thought the link was down entirely. I haven't used one of the leaked versions, but I've heard some extremely scathing reviews from some windows sites recently. |
I've seen some screenshots leaked on those sites that Microsoft asked were taken down (btw, these sites were legitimately given a copy) and wasn't impressed either with the UI, it's still the same Windows with a different skin, and the words "Shut Do..." at the bottom instead of 'Shut Down" XD

Bleh, the company should've offered backup dialup as already mentioned. At least, when I was running an ISP, I would've. |
Anyways, you're not alone with the internet thing... My old ISP (also known as my boyfriend) 's internet went down four weeks ago, and was declared Dead (by me, in a towering rage) just over a week ago after not even a blip of internet for three weeks straight. I ordered ADSL and it was connected yesterday. I am currently torrenting up a storm now.
