Good luck with that when you need to get a job or have important business meetings and such

Umm..... just shake their hands. At least, I would, because I'd prefer to make a good impression (and thus hopefully get something that I want out of the business relationship)

Actually, in my experience the best thing I've been able to do to computers in a school environment is install means so that when the computer is rebooted, it starts up fresh as a daisy without any student-installed nasties each time.

That way you little shits (I refer lovingly to those of you in schools that destroy computers) can do what you like and it's all good after a reboot . And if all fails (not happened yet in my experience) we can always reimage again.

Ahh... so nice. Now I just had to keep attending to the fact that high school students apparently get off on putting foreign objects into floppy drives. Paperclips... chewing gum... homework, shards of CD....

So glad I work on help desk and away from the floppy drives of doom

ghosting is good, but still tiresome.

Better is the first thing I mentioned, where you don't have to.

Even better again is if they make floppy drives that bite kids if they put chewing gum in them.

I'm sorry, but I have to do this.

<Nelson_Muntz>Ha-Ha!</Nelson_Muntz>

I deleted all the songs off my iPod too, but that's cause it chose to synchronise to an empty iTunes.

Thankfully I had all my songs on a backup and it was restored within the hour.

Geez, does NOBODY know the Thread Title? Arwon....??

Yeah, the Avalanches Frontier Psychiatrist did get some minor fame in the UK mostly from what I remember, although I sent it to a few people and thoroughly freaked them out

The Living End had some success, even being used in a Bank ad (I think the song was "Roll On" or something in the US, although I very much agree that their best stuff is still that original Prisoner of Society / Second Solution EP, and everything from there on in is quite repetetive.

I adore Machine Gun Fellatio, but it tends to weird out a lot of people.... including myself, frankly, with some of their tracks. I wouldn't know what to classify it as....

I wanna know if Ben Folds can be classed as Australian yet, now he's been living in Adelaide for a while

Well, um... I think that you need to work on things. Both pictures are huge, but without any detail or real interest. Neither draw the viewer's eye in to the picture or give the viewer a real reason to be interested in your work

In short, it's... boring.

This is a redraw of a VERY old pic I did, that I never finished.

The original was drawn in 2001, and I was danged proud of it, despite the fact that I never worked out how to draw the feet in (or what she should even have on her feet, for that matter). Because of the feet, I never finished it.

This redraw was done this weekend, whilst feeling kinda sick (I have come down with a rather nasty cold, and was very out of it all long-weekend... still sniffly now), when I happened to find the original on my hard drive. I'd always intended to finish it some day, although it turned out that I wound up redrawing it.

Anyways, here it is.

Click on it to see it bigger.

I can still see a few things I need to improve in this, but frankly I think it is a VAST improvement over the original....

Compare for yourself...
Overall differences between the two pictures
Detail picture at working-size (face / eyes only)

I'd like to think I have improved over the years...

Cute!

Looks better against the red background I'm currently typing in though

I don't have a NES, and never had one so I can't tell you how accurate it is (I can't think what a NES even looks like.. please forgive me!) but it looks good to me.

Only possible critique -- make the internal lines a different color than black, maybe a dark grey, or a white on one edge to show a shiny highlight!

I like the second one much better

Looks good with the shiny edges, much less harsh looking than the black edges, too But the black outline still ensures that it will look good on any background

The "shadow" is just me playing with background, nothing more. I just took the original pic, put it on a new layer, shaded it black and applied the "soft light" filter to it to make the background less.... dull.

Critique the artwork, not my crappy background-dullness-removal-attempts

I can't think what background to really give it, but I didn't want to just leave it white... so I just threw something crappy together so it wasn't.. well.. white... like the original (unfinished) was. I leave entirely too many backgrounds white, come to think of it. I should learn to "background". But I don't wanna, that's another 6 hours of work....

I was teasing

But yeah, as mentioned (more in the edit of above post), I'm not good at backgrounds, I just threw something together so it wasn't plain white for once...

Thanks! I thought it was too, in fact I was just about as proud of myself on completion of the linework in 2005 as I was with the original in 2001 Then I was royally pissed when my other half said he liked the 2001 one better... *mutter curse grumble swear*

I used to be a serial abuser of the "Render Clouds" and "Lens Flare" features as backgrounds of my artwork.

Could you pretty please elaborate on what you like about the 2001 version better than the 2005 version?

My other half said he liked the fact that it didn't have black cartoon outlines in the old version, and that he liked the eyes better because they looked more "real". Then he asked what look it was I was going for. I said "anime" and he said "oh, your second one's better then, but I still like the lack of lines".

My personal critiques on this, fyi:

2005 critiques
  • The legs ARE a bit heavy-set, which I've been mostly putting down to her being "athletic", it's all uh.. muscle.. for all the uh, running and jumping.. and stuff.. she does... yeah.. I worked for a long time to try to get them more slender, but without making them too long I haven't been able to do a good job of REALISTICALLY making them more slender yet.... (and I was going for a more realistic body shape than my 2001 version)
  • Yes, that foot on the left hand side of the picture IS too flat on the ground, don't know how it worked out that way though, as it was not my intention. I think it happened while I was trying to make the boot look like a boot.
  • The hips, specifically on the left of the picture. I think the hip is too low on that side, needs to be up higher by a touch.
  • Arm on the left hand side of the picture, maybe needs to be back a touch at the elbow, otherwise is fine
  • Arm on the right hand side of the picture -- hand placement is a bit odd, seems like the thumb isn't there, need to fix this. Elbow joint itself is in the right place, but bottom of elbow is a bit too far to the left.
  • Neck is too thick, and if I make it thinner, too long.

2001 critiques
  • Body shape is unrealistic. NOBODY has Boobs, Hips, Waist, Legs or Arms like that!
  • Specifically, shoulders are too broad for hips, waist is too thin.
  • Legs are too long, shape of leg on left is just dodgy reverse of shape of leg on right. Shape is unrealistic
  • Arms have no muscle tone, or any tone at all for that matter
  • Hands on sword are backward, would be awkward and uncomfortable to really hold a sword like that
  • Sword itself sucks, but I knew that back then too, cause I never finished it...
  • Eyes do not "curve" around the face -- ie, looks too flat. Nose is too pointed, cheekbone not defined, ear too far back, mouth no more than a line. In general, features too sharp/pointed and flat
  • Neck is too thick, and if made thinner, too long
  • Shoulders are HUGE, shoulder on left too far back and too high
  • Too many folds in clothing at waist, or not enough folds elsewhere (I'm leaning though towards too many).
  • No feet.

AFAIK, didn't Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Laboratory) do the currently already released animation shorts? They were pretty good, from what little I saw.

If he were to do animation stuff, I think it'd be good, just as long as Genndy had creative control, and not Lucas....

I get it, it's just... not funny.

I don't think it has any artistic merit either, in fact it seems more like madMonkey's idea of a joke. Not sure why it's even in Modern Art.
