| Absolutely nothing, at least on my Mac anyways. Not buying into Norton's scaremongering. On my PC, I run AVG, as it is good and free, and Ad-Aware. I use Firefox partly as I prefer it and partly as it protects my machine from the actions of the others that use it. My other half doesn't do anything stupid with my machine, but my little brother has only just learned that he can look stuff up on the internet (he's 22 btw, and old enough to look up dodgy things). If the machine were left soley up to me, I doubt I would need AdAware, but I'd still use AVG and Firefox. (just as I view antivirus as a necessary evil on Windows) And while this is seperate from my machines themselves, all machines on my network are behind linux based firewalling. | I'm sorry to hear that you have bipolar disorder (aka, manic depressive disorder). I myself suffer from unipolar disorder (aka, depression) so I have a little bit of an idea what you're talking about. There are a few people here that I'm sure will be more than happy to talk to you if you need to about it. I'm sorry to hear about your ex girlfriend. It sounds to me like something's really upsetting her too at the moment, for her to act the way she has. From what you've said, her behaviour was quite uncharacteristic of her. People can do really stupid things when they are hurting, so I hope that she is okay. I hope that you're okay as well. I'm sure her behaviour has hurt you too, and you are best to talk about this with her directly and let her know how it made you feel. I'm not really sure what else to say at the moment, but if you need to talk more, feel free to do so. |

| Gah, you know what, it's several days later and I still can't find any actual Apple news on slashdot, they just spammed it up good with April Fools' Jokes. Sorry about the link -- it wasn't member only to begin with, but a lot of places are doing that these days. *sigh* Just install the bugmenot plugin if it annoys you, don't shoot the messenger.  As for what REALLY happened in regards to Google, I'm quite happy with my new 2Gb account. And Google Gulp's FAQ page makes me giggle.  |

| Sobering news, but hardly surprising. I don't watch much TV and my internet was down all weekend, so I am only just catching up wtih this now, but I remember that he was read his last rites last week, so was more or less expecting news of this nature. Hmm... now, I'm just trying to remember something.. according to Nostradamus, was it after the death of this Pope that the third anti-christ rises?  Or am I getting all my doom and gloom fearmongering upside down? |

| I have this movie on DVD, after I saw the film first on DivX and decided I wanted a better quality copy of the film. It is without a doubt the most thoroughly depressing film I have ever seen, anime or not. That's not a bad thing though either, the film is beautifully done. It was sad watching the kids.. well, be kids... set against that backdrop, and it's sad watching how the people of Japan more or less ignored them |

I'm not nasty when I critique, am I? (I try very hard not to be) I have to wonder if Trapster's comment is at all necessary, too btw.  What are you using to outline? (mouse, tablet?) The linework is a little scruffy, so I'm just curious. I actually like the scruffiness, and my own linework has that quality too (I just draw really big and then shrink it so the scuffy effect is negated), so I'm just curious. I like the bold colors, it all looks very cute and gives a rather.. I guess I'd say "happy" feel. On a technical note, the coloring itself is very well done, good use of color theory and contrast, and very neatly colored too. My only real critique is in the eyes -- everything else on the (main) picture (as opposed to backdrop) has a cel-shaded kind of effect to it, but the eyes are clearly airbrushed. I'd probably try to go for a cel-shaded effect there with the eyes and it'd look great.

Well, one thing I would like to see more of is -- if you're posting a thread re: controversial news/etc where possible link to a news source, article, etc, rather than just giving your interpretation of events/etc. |
Does anybody else think that would be a good idea? I think it would help cut down a little on individual bias in the opening of a thread, and provide people with a good discussion point, but I'm just looking for any thoughts on that... | ||||||||||||||||||
