| Er... you guys did realise that with the tablet stuff I was talking about Linux, right? I was attempting to modify the kernel and X as well as install custom drivers in order to get the full pressure and tilt sensitivity on the tablet. Didn't work. Disappointing, as it was more or less a death blow for me + Linux long-term. Works fine on my Mac though  |

I'm going to agree with the critique on the foot in the linework/CG, it seems a little... flat? I like the sketches for the fight scene, and the inkwork too. I'm not ambitious enough to try doing any manga with my artwork, so I commend you. (restricted) | (restricted) |

Well, we don't have Gamestop here, but I did have to go to a place called "A & R Computers" with my... I guess you'd call him my step-grandfather. |
We weren't there for long when the salesman spotted us -- an elderly gentleman and a girl. So he came over to where we were looking at the prices on CD burners, and started trying to convince John (step-grandfather) to buy overpriced things he doesn't need. Like your average bad salesman, he was using all kinds of -- what are to the average consumer -- confusing terms to try to convince John that everything was the latest and greatest and must-have. When he wasn't using technical terms, he was talking to John like he was an idiot. Then he turned to me and tried the same on me. It was only after he said "this one here burns CD's and DVD's, like the DVDs you can watch movies on" to me, and I said irritably "I know!" that he actually looked at me properly. On that particular day, my shirt read: The guy noticably blanched, said something about "Oh, you know uh.. linux.. heh...um...so you'd know what you're uh.. after.. huh?" , and promptly left us alone, where I was free to explain to John things in layman's terms and buy what we WANTED. I don't mind somebody asking "Can I help you?" -- in fact I see it as a sign of good customer service, although usually I'll tell them that I'm just looking for the moment, and then if I DO need help, I'll know who to ask. |
What I really hate -- and what I seem to get a lot (perhaps because I am a girl) -- is salesman that try to take me for a ride. There is unfortunately still a feeling that girls and old people can't know anything about computers, and I'm positive that, until the guy looked at my shirt, my step-grandfather and I looked like prime targets. Once he saw my Linux Conference shirt, he backed off, but before that, I'm sure the salesman thought he'd found the perfect suckers. I am also not a fan of the people in an Apple store here called "Next Byte". Sometimes they are really friendly, but sometimes they just seem to revert to saying "it's better cause it's made by Apple".

Eh, Rurouni Kenshin's world is kinda nice. Sure, there's violence, but in that particular world, it always seems to turn out for the best.

Quiet, something to eat, and no distractions. Maybe some music, but I have to be in the mood for it. |
