Okay, does putting a different monitor on the machine make any difference?

Have you adjusted the monitor's brightness and contrast settings? There will be a menu in the monitor to do this.

Is this an old monitor?

What do you mean by "Messed Up" ? Too dark, too bright, etc?

Oh!

And is it plugged in properly?

Wiggle the connector and the cable and see if that makes a difference.

Some older monitors get funny with the connection. Or even some newer ones. And sometimes the VGA cable goes funny too. Always worth giving it a wiggle just in case.

I dunno, possibly a warranty thing too?

Does the monitor do it on other computers too?

Yeah, there's also things like Color Management profiles to keep an eye on, like the Adobe color management, sRGB compliancy, etc. They will adjust brightness/contrast/gamma....

But yeah, I'd try the monitor on another computer and see if it does it there first. If it does, you'll likely know that it's the monitor. If it doesn't, you'll know it's sonething on the computer causing the problem.

Posted on 02-14-05 10:28 AM, in Reformat / Reinstall OS X ? Link
Just wondering....(potentially stupid Mac question here...) I was thinking that I need to do a reformat / reinstall of my Mac at some point. I never actually got a fresh version of OS X when I bought my Mac, I got the store display one.

So, I've been thinking about doing a format reinstall.

Which I thought was easy, I'll just back my stuff up and then I'll format....

I haven't the foggiest idea how to even begin formatting my Mac.

So, I'm wondering if somebody here can suggest how I would go about this? Is this possible?

Alternatively, would a 'Clean Restore' achieve the same effect I am after anyways? (I know how to do one of those)

I'd like to give my Mac a GOOD nice happy clean out and get rid of the last traces of the store software. Not to mention all the shit that I put on there while I was trying to work out what I was doing on the Mac.

Actually, I'm kinda wishing I had some cheese too, the kind that comes in the wheel variety.

I just want a slice of Jarlsberg though, not the whole wheel.

Well, I'm doing it for a few reasons. I got a bunch of department store shit on my Mac I've never been able to completely rid myself of, for starters.

Then there's all the shit I put on that I just don't want or need.

And yeah, I am interested in learning what I do and what it's like.

Same for growing, up to I think it is 3 plants. Not a criminal offence.

Course, never having lived in a city in which pot IS a criminal offence, I can't say really how Adelaide's decriminalisation of pot has benefited society in comparison to somewhere else...

When did this happen?

It's been like this as long as I can remember.

Well, as long as I've been aware of the existence of pot.

Too many for me to name, really. I just KNOW I'll forget people and I don't want to do that.

Also, I'd like to think that I get along with most people here anyways.

Eh, I still would imagine the other big birthdays are still worth celebrating. If just as an excuse to get drunk.

On one of the boards I administrated, I used to give out NAN's to those people who spammed in the name of post counts.

If they stopped spamming, I'd give them their post count back though.

I don't watch all that much, but....

I do watch the Simpsons. In fact, it's the only "staple" of my television diet.

When I can, I'll watch Malcolm in the Middle, and also CSI.

Other than that, I generally watch very little TV.

I like the series mediocrity.... in fact, I like that I don't have to think too much about Kenshin. The show is just one that's fun to watch. It's not brilliant, it's not deep or insightful, but it's just plain enjoyable.

As for the Manga, it's just appearing here in Australia, I've read one volume and found it quite enjoyable.
