Well, I pronounce Linux the same way that Linus Torvalds does. And I find the fact that there is a soundbyte of Linus saying "Hello, this is Linus Torvalds and I pronounce Linux as Linux" really funny.

Eh, as for "Colleen", I pronounce it the second way.

As for my own name -- Same as "Karen" but with a T instead of a K. Although at work, nobody seems to listen or hear me right, because I've been called everything from "Pam" "Fern" "Sharon" "Susan" etc.. (I work on a phone... I give up, I don't care what they call me anymore)

Wow, a day where there's an exploit discovered in a Microsoft product. That must mean today's one of those days that ends in a "y".

Oh well, I don't use the official MSN clients.

But yeah, exploits for MS stuff are found very, very, very frequently....

Well, I tend to do it in between taking support calls.

... or when I'm not listening to the customer.

Just wondering, I'm on a bit of a nostaligia kick as I just found something I haven't even thought of in a decade....

What was your first OS, and when? What was your first GUI and when?

I don't remember my first OS really, I was 5 years old at the time, but I do remember the GUI that was used. It was called "GEM" and it came with the Amstrad we had in the mid 80's.

It was a simple GUI with a windowing system. Designed after Macintosh's release, but before Microsoft Windows release. It had a few simple applications, the two I remember being "Dr Doodle" and "GEM Paint", both art programs. I used to LOVE GEM Paint.

I discovered today that GEM has been open-sourced; and that there is a freeGEM project... although I don't seem to be able to find out much about it....

My second OS and GUI were that of the original Macintosh. Again in the mid 80's. (Which I loved, but from there I our family tended to use DOS and IBM-compatible PC's more as it was what Mum had to use at work and knew better)

What was yours??

Eh, I post more between calls than I do when I'm on a call.

It's very hard to be on a call and post at the same time. Particularly if you're actively troubleshooting. If the client is just rambling bullshit though it's easier to post...

If I've asked the client what error they get and they answer with "I don't know, I didn't think it was important so I clicked OK." I tend to start to switch off, too.

And yeah, a lot of users completely ignore error messages. Or when I ask them what it is (say when logging in) they just say 'it says no".

Having grown up in the DOS environment, I remember HATING Windows 3.11 when we got our first Windows OS. I hated trying to browse through the file structure to copy or move files. I used to go into DOS to do it.

I remember hating Windows 95 even more. I deliberately replaced the shell with Program Manager.

I'm not sure what happened in between then and the late nineties, but somewhere in there I got used to Windows.

And then from the 00's onwards I slowly got annoyed with Windows... and now I have gone back to Mac.

Hi... uh welcome.

We can't give you Acmlm though. I think the decision should be up to him if he's going to be given away to somebody. We just don't treat people around here like that, sorry What do you intend to do with him anyways?

Hi... mikeo.

Could you pretty please edit all of your posts in this thread, and remove your layout from them all?

Once you have it fixed, you can put it back, but until then, please remove it, or a moderator or administrator will have to.

And yeah, please read the FAQ.

I still wanna know what you're going to do with our Acmlm though. I hope it's not cruel or kinky. You should consider his feelings first....

You've already mentioned it, but the feet -- I think the problem is that they are too small. I'd experiment with sizing and see if it's any better.

The second version looks MUCH better. And I like the detail in your shading

Well, looking at the first page, you seem to like purple

One thing I've noticed is that you need to give the girls more defined waists. Just get them to curve in a little more at the waist and out at the hips and they should look really good.

I had a friend who made an anti school website. She went to a catholic school and she made a website saying that the nuns were evil satan worshippers that kill babies and drink their blood.

The nuns told her to remove it or they'd sue.

Wow, that was a long time ago too now, 1998 or something.

OMFG -- Stunt Copter! I remember that!!

My favorite mac game was "Snakes Alive" though. Even if I sucked at it. I have it on my iBook, but it doesn't run very well.

Fucken Awesome!

I'll have to show my brother this too, he'll love it. We used to take turns (okay, okay, fight over) on the computer playing Stunt Copter and Snakes Alive.

*plays game* Oh yeah, I definitely remember this. Thanks, Jesper *runs off to re-live childhood*

EDIT: Linked to Snakes Alive. Need Classic though.... and the version I had wasn't in color.

Oooh, openGEM?

I found a freeGEM, but I can't seem to find much current info on it. It seems to have died in 2001.

Looks like OpenGEM has some stuff happening though. Maybe that's what I'll look into. Now that I've rediscovered GEM, I *have* to get it running on something, for sheer nostaliga sake.

I also noticed last night that I seem to revisit GEM roughly every decade. First in the mid 80's, then again in the mid 90's (I found the floppies and ran it on some machines at school) and again now. Weird....

On Photoshop v Paint Shop Pro, I think the reason I prefer Photoshop is that I know it. It's what I was taught in school. If I had been taught Paint Shop Pro, I might prefer that. That's all it really comes down to for me, I just know Photoshop better. And the GIMP confuses me. I do use ImageReady though for making the occasional animated GIF.

My killer app on Windows is Open Canvas. It is one of very few programs I use Windows for. (the others being old games from the late 80's and early 90's). Course, this is probably only a killer app for those with graphics tablets... If this program was on a Mac, I'd long ago have ditched Windows.

Real cake, but it depends on the cake. I have reasonably high standards when it comes to cake, I like to get my cake from a patisserie where I know the cake is exceptionally good and decadent.

You want all that for free?

I think you'd be very lucky to find that for free nowadays. Once upon a time I remember being able to find things like that, but now.... not sure.

You are really best to pay for hosting.
