I'm actually now used to SP2. I have it on the machine at work, regardless of whether I want it or not.

Of course, I think it's impact would be most heavily felt if I were an IE user, but I'm not, so I've thus far been relatively unaffected by SP2.

And I turn off XP's pretties.

I like the native Window Manager in OS X too.

But I do enjoy skinning it on occasion

As everybody else has stated, it looks good, but yes a little cut off.

And happy Kasumiversary.

I dunno when the Taraleversary was. I'm lucky to remember when public holidays are. (I nearly forgot Australia Day this year. )

I know that. I just wanted to mention skinning anyways, cause it's teh fun.

I can't change the way my OS X windows work, but I can make it as shiny or as matt or as purple or whatever as I like. Different, but still fun.

I'm mildly miffed that this is limited (heh) to US users... but at the same time I don't really care as I have no interest in Hotmail.

I'm a happy Gmail user too. (And yes, Gmail is Google)

I learned evolution at school, and it's a very interesting little theory.

But then, I did not go to a religious school, I went to a public school and nobody in my area would care if we discussed Evolution or the Big Bang or such....

Grey Area.

This kind of stuff just isn't cool, but I don't know who should "deal with it" and clean up the mess, so to speak.

It is not technically the direct jurisdiction of the school, but parents may still hold the school responsible for it, and so schools may still have to act upon it.

It's probably more appropriate for parents to take it up with the parents of the children involved; however I know (from my experience in schools) that parents are much more likely to try to hold the school responsible.

That puts the school in a difficult situation, because it's harassment, but it's not actually done on the school premesis.

But because the kids involved go to the same school as the kid being harassed, parents are pretty damned likely to go to the school and yell and scream and rant rather than follow it up directly with the parents of the children involved....

Maybe also because the school is 1 central point of contact, wheras they'd have to contact 30 parents about this......

(And yes, working in schools, I've seen parents come in and hold the school responsible for things the school has no earthly control over before; they do it at a startlingly high rate)

On the topic of schools limiting student computer use; yeah most schools here do it. The machines are meant for study and learning... not for playing games or chatting and stuff like that.

However -- most younger (kids, younger adults) computer users find it very very hard to concentrate on a specific, solitary task on a computer. The urge to multitask is overwhelming....

When I was admin at a school, I used to tell the kids off whose multitasking erred too much to the point of chatting/games/forums and not enough on study. If they could balance their multitasking, I didn't mind....

The one we have in schools here is a little tricky, but then it's not exactly on school software, it's state government operated, etc.

But kids still find some ways through.... they just don't last for long before those holes are patched.

I live in a city in which pot is Decriminalised. If you have a small quantity of the stuff, you get basically a slap on the wrist. No criminal record. You might get told off by the cops, but you don't get a nasty thing on your record.

Same for growing, up to I think it is 3 plants. Not a criminal offence.

Course, never having lived in a city in which pot IS a criminal offence, I can't say really how Adelaide's decriminalisation of pot has benefited society in comparison to somewhere else...

Hmm... I was wondering if I got in the ACS with my "spree" yesterday.

Heh, second. Not bad. Of course, there are SOME PEOPLE that I don't think I shall ever beat.

I think this is the first time since I've been staff that I've noticed myself on the ACS, too. It was a little weird seeing the (LM) there.

I used to play piano.

I haven't played for years though, since I moved out and my piano stayed at Mum's house.

If I had somewhere at my house to put the piano, I'd move it in a second.

Yes, that is a good point. A lot of parents leave the "parenting" up to their schools. Which is just a cop-out, and absolute bullshit.

When their child is upset by another child, rather than actually do some parenting, the most a lot of parents will do is go to the school and yell "What the fuck are you going to do about it?" until the school acts. As far as a lot of parents are concerned, this stuff isn't their responsibility -- even if it doesn't occur in school, the school is apparently seen as being supposed to do the work of parenting for the parent.

Grrr.. I'm getting angry now, I've actually spoken to parents like this before, and I'm getting teh shitty.

I'm so happy that my Mother didn't do any half-arsed underparenting like this.

But mostly because I get less spam / gmail does an exceptional job of identifying spam.

My other accounts are flooded with mail telling me to enlarge body parts I DO NOT HAVE.
