Well, considering I'm a bit of a GAINAX junkie, I think I had it on my list of "things to take a look at cause it's GAINAX" anyways, but I'd forgotten about that... I actually saw it at the store and recognised the artwork immediately as GAINAX. And my curiosity then got the better of me, so I bought it

I clicked "no" but I guess that's not quite true, because I will very rarely look at them. But I wouldn't call that often enough to say "sometimes" either.

I don't post enough for post counts to make much of a difference, really. I know that you'll all make six gazillion (slight exaggeration ) in the time I make ten, but anyways

Okay, I'll post an example of some digital artwork, by an artist called pu-sama

Come in out of the Rain by pu-sama

Now I'm guessing that took HOURS and HOURS of work, patience, tedious blending of color and attention to detail, significant skill, etc to do.

How much do YOU think it's worth?

Do you judge that value on just what it looks like at face value, or the time and effort that goes into it? If pu-sama was doing that for a living for somebody, they might charge by the hour...

And Taryn, who cares? I don't think it makes a difference if tell someone "I dislike you!" or "I hate you!", it's both the same point.

I wouldn't tell anybody either of those things. What good does it do to tell somebody something like that? It doesn't matter if I dislike a person, I have no right to say something like that to them.

If I needed to though, I would tell somebody that I disliked an aspect of them, as tactfully as possible, but I don't think I have the right to say something like "I hate/dislike you" because it is a personal attack; rather than constructive criticism.

I didn't say that I'd just "cope around it forever"

I'd tell you that I disliked what it was that you were doing to piss me off, and I'd appreciate it if you didn't in future.

I just wouldn't say "I hate you" or "I dislike you" because you were doing something annoying or pissing me off. It's not justified.

Yeah, but I guess in my life I don't really have people who do follow me around or go out of their way to get under my skin. At school I did, but at school I just ignored everybody, their petty opinions and teasing didn't really matter.

After school, I found that I COULD tell somebody that I didn't like something that they did, and they'd either stop, or I could avoid them, or otherwise deal with the situation without saying that I hate anybody.

Well, my appointment is Tuesday, and that is when I will go under hypnosis for the first time, I believe.

I have a homework task to complete before then.

I have to think good and hard about what it is that I think is "wrong" with the way I think, and how I'd rather think. Sorta... who I want to be, and such.

He says the problem is that I have these "absolute truths" in my mind that are negative. Like everybody knows that 1 + 1 = 2, and such, I also have these truths in my mind that I'm not good enough, etc. It may not be true to anybody else but in my mind, it's just as true as 1 + 1... because I learned from others throughout my life that I'm not good enough, that's the only way I can feel.

I think he wants me to come up with new truths; and he will make them become real. And then maybe I won't think that I'm not good enough anymore.

I think it's been such a while since I've been really happy, this question is actually.. hard for me.

I guess it's loving somebody, and being loved in return.

Although with depression, several things have become substitutes for happiness... or rather ways of making the depression subside, even temporarily. Those things are videogames, junk food and anime. But the depression always returns again.

I have to take medicine every day. I'm getting used to taking pills and things, and antacids and stuff.... although I'm sure there are still things out there I could find that I don't like the flavor of.

When I was a kid, I couldn't take pills. I used to get medicine for asthma when it got really bad, and I'd take forever to take the pills... they seemed to get stuck in my throat, it was scary and I'd taste how gross the tablets were. Mum tried crushing them up and making me have them with a spoonful of honey, but that tasted gross too.

I'm glad I finally learned to take pills properly. It's easier if you put them right in the middle of your tongue....

But I have my favourites outside of those studios too. Like Fruits Basket, for example

All things said and done, filesharing does have its benefits. Particularly things like Bit Torrent, for example (Kazaa is just nasty, and does weird shit as far as actually transferring data goes)... but that's a different story and has more to do with bandwidth and allowing small webmasters to host larger content on their sites... o.o offtopic, moving on....

For a lot of artists, it means that their music is exposed to a larger audience. A band in Canada that might have had a limited local audience is now exposed potentially to the WORLD audience, for example.

MP3 filesharing has done a lot of promo work for a lot of bands, allowing a good many people to "try before they buy" so to speak.

In Australia, ARIA reported a huge INCREASE in album sales since filesharing began. Admittedly, there was a large decrease in the sales of CD singles, but they believe that MP3 filesharing has done the job that singles did -- marketing and allowing people to listen to a single song -- better than CD singles did. Sales of actual albums has since increased a lot

I think in general, filesharing is neither good, nor bad. It can have its' benefits, yes, but it can also be used for copyright infringement (vastly different from "theft" btw) as well.

I think in general the biggest thing to come out of the whole filesharing thing is a general idea that people no longer want to deal with the way that people like RIAA want to do things anymore. They want to be in control of the way that they listen to and obtain music.

Same goes for TV shows and Movies. In fact, the amount of people watching TV is dropping, particularly among younger males (mid teens to thirties) People generally don't want to sit in front of TV and watch a movie or TV show when the TV network says it's time to... many people are too busy nowadays -- so they download it so that they can watch it at their leisure.

I think filesharing has opened up a lot of possibilities, and I just hope that people like the RIAA acknowledge that the market is changing and rather than fight it, I hope they learn to change with the times.

I've been thinking about things, but I don't know if my plans will actually happen.

As most of you know, Ben and I have broken up. Well, he's asked me back, and I'm considering it, but he's been a cranky bastard cause of stress and stuff with work -- he never gives himself time away from work to relax.

So I thought it might be a good idea to drag him out to the country, (to a town called Clare, a prominent wine district around here) for the weekend. For starters, to get him out of the city and away from work, so he can relax and enjoy himself.

I thought we might go wine tasting, play a round of golf and just enjoy the countryside for a bit.

Course, I don't have a huge amount of faith in Ben actually agreeing to do this, he'll probably decide that he should "utliise the long weekend to get work done" or something like that

Bleh

As for chocolate, yeah, I like chocolate a lot. I hope I get something yummy from Haigh's or Red Tulip

Okay, I don't think I've ever had a caffeine hangover, but then I've never really drank excessive amounts of Red Bull either. I have three cups of coffee and I'm flying. Two Red Bulls and I'm out of it too....

But I know from alcohol hangovers, that "hair of the dog" usually helps a bit with those.

Perhaps if you have a caffeine hangover, have a little more caffeine. Not much, just a little cup of tea or something Maybe "hair of the dog" works with caffeine as well as alcohol

Just so you know, when I say that theft is different from copyright infringement, I am talking in LEGAL TERMS.

Theft occurs when something is taken from somebody. eg. I take your CD. I now have a CD, you do not have the CD. I have gained by the exact amount that you have lost.

In Copyright Infringement, the loss inflicted upon a person or company is not the exact amount as the gain that the person copying the file/whatever gets. In fact, the person who originally owns the ((whatever it is)) does not lose that item at all, just somebody else gains a COPY of that item.

Legally they are classed as entirely different things.

Filesharing is NOT theft. It IS Copyright Infringement

Actually, it is vaguely possible to get a "hangover" of sorts from Caffeine, it's just not the same kind of thing that an alcohol hangover is.

When I was a kid, I used to feel funny "coming down" off a sugar high. So I'm guessing the same kind of thing could happen with Caffeine. Considering that they (medical science) still do not understand completely how Caffeine works upon the mind, there may well be such a thing as a Caffeine hangover in some people.

Like I said: "hair of the dog"

Yeah, I know of a few bands who have put up single songs or full albums. It gets their music out there and heard

In fact, I applaud those artists that do that. And there are a number of sites that do offer independent artists' music (with the artists permission) out there too

But remember guys, filesharing isn't just about music! There's also all the pictures, programs, movies, TV shows, etc out there too

Some of that stuff is available freely (open source stuff, etc) some of it is proprietary, and thus filesharing can be utilised as a tool for piracy.

But filesharing in and of itself is NOT wrong. It is merely a tool, a way of sharing data. If that data happens to be MP3 files that a band have released freely, it's perfectly fine! If that data happens to be Open Source software, it's also perfectly fine! Filesharing is just a medium for the sharing of data and information.

It's just that filesharing can be abused; and frequently is. Filesharing itself is a GOOD thing!

Just like CD-R's and RW's can be used for so many good things, like backing up your data, etc, CD-R's can also be abused for piracy and copyright infringement purposes. But that doesn't mean CD-R's are bad.
